Hi Everyone -

Has anyone ever done the above race?

I heard that the Broad Street run was a mess, outside of the heat ---- but it was too large and poorly run. My friend runs a 7 min mile and said the whole time of the race she was arm and arm and would never do another Philly run.

I did my first half in Disney, and I am hoping for a positive experience what is well organized like Disney is. To hear that Broad Street was so bad, from someone who runs alot of fulls and halfs I am hesitant in signing up.

Any insight would be great --- not only for this but also if the ROCK N ROLL Halfs are really worth the money.

Thanks!

I did this run last year when it was the Philadelphia Distance Classic and it was a well run event. I also did 3 other Competitor Group events (Nashville twice and VA Beach) and all were worth the money.

A lot depends on the race organizers and I don't know who does the Broad Street run but the Rock N Roll events are all very large so Competitor knows how to run large events.

I've only done one RnR, Inagural San Antonio. It was a logistical nightmare IMO. The race itself was great, but getting to/from, getting your checked bag, teh expo and everything not in the race was not well done. Maybe it's jus tbecause it was the innaugural year, though. :confused3

I did this race last year before it was officially a RnR event. I thought it was very well run and a nice event. Weather is ususaly good that time of year and the course is pretty flat. I'm a slower runner 11-12 min miles but did not have problems with congestion on the course aside from the usual first half mile or so congestion.

One thing competitor does right at just about every race they run is corralling. There were a large number of corrals for the Distance Classic last year which had everyone spread out nicely. The roads are also nice and wide for the majority of the race giving everyone plenty of room to spread out (assuming they use the same course this year). I was very impressed last year. The only thing I would have changed was to have Eye of the Tiger playing as I came running towards the finish in front of the Museum of Art. :)

I am registered for this one! Worried about training in the heat of the summer, though!

Thanks for your replies everyone - I have not signed up but any reservations I had I think I am good with now.

I have started back to my training plan, and so far so good as week 1 ends tomorrow.

As for training outside, I have a wonderful TM that I will use --- the heat and I are not friends, but it will be if I have to chose between running in 90 degrees or 75 degrees :)

For those of you who signed up, do you have a coupon code to save $$ was hoping there would be one floating around and I have yet to find one.

I'm no expert . . . but I do recommend you get some runs out there in the heat. If not, and you encounter a hot one on September 19, you will truly regret it! You want most of your training conditions to be similar to the real day if possible. I'd hate to see you dragging on the big day because you are used to the TM in the AC! :cool2:

Believe it or not, I did the whole princess half training on my TM ;)

Trust me the heat, is something I will have to address down the line ....... but right now I think I am ok just enjoying a great movie and airconditioning - :lovestruc

Right now I have to decide if I am going to do it!!

Any promo codes??

I'm with you on the TM training. I don't do well in the heat (one might ask why I run so many Disney races but I digress...). There is nothing like my tivo and TM for a prefect run.

There is a discount code if you register before June 15th. ROCKPHI will save you $10

Just a friendly word of caution about doing all of your training on a treadmill. They're a lot softer than roads, and road running without having your body accustomed to the pounding can lead to shin splints and stress fractures.

I've done the Philly Distance Run for several years, and it's one of my favorite races. The first four miles in center city are a little congested but it's not awful. I do sometimes jump on the sidewalks to get around people. Once you come back to the art museum and head into Fairmount Park, the people are fairly spread out.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

I am almost 99.9% that I am doing this run/race. To me it is a race against myself not others which is why I call it a run ;)

I will sign up by June 14th to get the $10 savings as I am already signed up for the Diva Half in long island, ny.

I live in south jersey (an hour or so drive into philly) I just debate getting a hotel for the one night --- right now if I can get my friend to join me then it will be wonderful and I wont feel the pain of a $179 night room (just for me)
