Just curious to know if anyone is planning on running the Philly Distance Run? My sister and I are planning on doing this. I believe it's Sept 20th!

Hi Suzanne,

The Sept. event is the Philly Distance Run. It is a half. I did it last year and had a good time.
Just wanted to distinguish as it's different from the half that is run in conjunction with the Philadelphia Marathon, which is in November. The courses are similar, if not the same, but the events are conducted by different organizations.

DH and I are propably running this one. We did it last year and had a great time-- nice, flat course, usually good weather in Philia that time of year. The race was well run with pretty scenery along boathouse row. The entertainment was a bit sparse but ok. The Philadelphia Marathon Half has a similar couse but more hills through Fairmount Park-- it was also really cold last year-- water stations were all ice.

I'm thinking about signing up for this as well. One of the papers I picked up at the Broad St Run last weekend had a $10 off code for registration that's good until 6/15. I can post here when I get home if anyone needs it.

I'm in for the PDR as well. I haven't registered yet, but got a coupon at the Broad St. Run last weekend so will probably sign up soon.

This was my first half last year, and it is a really great race!

I ran it last year.. the Philadelphia Distance Run and enjoyed it. It remains my PR (1:50:08). If I have an opportunity to run it again this year, I will.

I also ran the Philadelphia Marathon (4:18) and enjoyed it, but as Jen said, it was C-O-L-D last year!

Good Luck!

Thank you for the correction. Is there a way to chance the thread title?

You can change the title by selecting Edit on the original post and then clicking 'go advanced'. It's been a while, but I think that is the way to do it.

I plan on signing up for the distance run. I was going to sign up for the philly half in November too, but I convinced a friend to do the Rothman 8k. I'll probably sign up after my next paycheck.

I expect to be running again for the 3rd year in a row. I really like the course. And I agree with Jen that the weather seems to be nicer in Sept than in November for the marathon. However, we had great weather the last 2 years of the PDR. There is always the risk of a 90-degree indian summer day. Oh yeah...for having a big sponsor like ING I thought the t-shirts and medals for the PDR this year were weak. The Broad St Run had way better stuff for less $$.

I'll be there again as well. Actually getting psyched as we are now less than a month away. This race is always a nice start to the fall race season.

I'll be there. I plan on running with my TnT mentor. I'll be doing about 8 miles this week and 10 next week then taking it somewhat easy with another 6. I'll try to see you there! You guys will have to stick around and cheer me on since you will probably finish hours before me!

I am still planning to run this one. It will probably not be a PR this year, but I will use it as a precursor to another half I am running in Connecticut (Ridgefield Half) on October 4 and the Marine Corps Marathon in late October.

Maybe we can meet pre-race by Rocky like we did last year?

I am running this one for the first time this year to get myself the Beach to Bell medal.

Does anyone have a goal for this one? I want to finish it under 2hrs 30 mins.

This is a training run for me, so I just hope to matain a pace that will allow me finish successfully at Marine Corps. That means a pace under 14:00 min/mile will make me happy.

I guess Goal #1 would be to beat last year's PDR time of 1:43:35 and Goal #2 would be to set a 1/2 marathon PR of 1:42:20. All depends on the weather which was beautiful (cool and dry) last year. If we catch an indian summer day then this will just be a training run for NYC marathon.

I just want to finish. It is really a training run for me, but if I could do better than I did for the Princess half I would be really happy.
