Does anyone know hard is it to get into the airport. We will be coming from State College.

I fly in and out of Philly all the time. My best suggestion to you is park at an off site facilitey, anf take their shuttle to the Airport. I use Kinney, but there are many around. Others in my office use SunPark. Decent pricing too for all of them.

Here's a link that can show you a lot of options. Give yourself PLENTY of time. Philly airport is no fun. Plan to be at the airport at least two hours before your flight. Better to sit at the gate reading a book, than rushing paniced through the airport and maybe mising your flight.

Everything zdad said.
And . . . if you are asking is it easy to find and relatively well marked, Yes.
Depending on the time of day, you might be best off using the "Blue Route" and approaching the airport on 95 north rather than coming into the city.

Hey!

Take the turnpike to 476S....it's right after the Norristown exit.

take that all the way to 95 North. The airport is a few miles north on 95..you totally can't miss it! So easy to get to!

Definitely come in from the south (off 476 "Blue Route")on 95. You will only be on 95N for several miles (maybe 8 to 10) if that and will hit some traffic there, but, as long as you try to stay to the right (so you don't miss the exit) you shouldn't have a problem. Do you plan to be dropped off or are you leaving your car? If leaving it, do a google search for off site parking lots in the Essington area which is the exit before the airport.....I think there's one called Colonial Parking there.....haven't used it myself, but, it gets good reviews. I believe they offer shuttle service to the airport from the lot. Just make sure you allow yourself plenty of time especially if you need to park offsite and shuttle. We drive down to PHL from NE PA for flights several times a year and always make sure we're at curbside checkin two hours before our flight. Most times we sit around and wait, but, sometimes security lines can be long. What airline are you flying? If it's Southwest be aware they have their checkin counter and curbside checkin at Terminal E, but, they do have some gates in Terminal D. So, you may need to check your bags and then go inside and up the escalator to the right and backtrack over an enclosed walkway to Terminal D. It's really not hard, but, you do need to pay attention.

I have another question...
Is there anything wrong with the economy parking lot at the airport?
Just curious.
Thanks for all the great advice so far.

I live 7 minutes from the airport so I will tell you that 95 runs out front of the airport. Depending on what day of the week it is and what time makes a big difference. There are parking lots all over the place around here that is close to the airport. You want to park it in my driveway and I will drive you you can I won't charge, lol ....

Anyway I have been to State College so I know it takes about 4 -5 hours to get here (that is what it took me going and coming from there) take your time.

I have only used the economy parking once. I usually travel the night before and stay at the Sheraton Four Points and park my car there.
My next trip, I am parking at Winner and having them keep my car. Here are some more alternatives for parking in or near PHL

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1242099

As for my experience with economy parking, we spent about 10 minutes looking for a spot and then waited another 20 waiting for the shuttle to pick us up to take us to the terminal. Economy Parking at PHL is $9 a day. I am paying less than that to be taken directly to the terminal. And I won't have to shlep my luggage more than I have to.

I agree about economy parking. When we went to England last year, took several minutes to find a spot, then had to s q u e e z e into the space between two huge SUV/truck things. Waited quite a while for the bus to get to the airport.

Coming home took FOREVER for the bus to get to us, too many people w/too many bags on the bus to the point where you couldn't get out.

I'd definately spend a few more $$ if necessary and use one of the area park/fly places.

Have a great time whatever you decide.

Thanks for all the great info on all the parking options. I made reservations for one of the outside lots, it should work out fine.

Everything everyone else says about Philadelphia International Airport, I agree 100%.

I travel for business, almost weekly, and this is the worst airport of the bunch! Everything from parking, to baggage handling, to on-time departure (now, that's a joke) is a major hassle at PHL.

I highly recommend using one of the "Valet Parking" lots around the airport. The one I use all the time is Winner Airport Valet Parking, on Essington Avenue. For about $10.00 a day, these folks will take you to the airport from their lot, handle your bags at curbside checking, then take your car back to their lot. While you're vacationing, they'll change your oil, wash your car, or do other services, for an extra fee.

When you return from vacation, simply call from the airport after getting your bags, or use your cellphone while walking to the curb with your carry-on. AND (here's the best part), you can elect to "drive off" from the airport...for only an extra $10.00 (hey, the guy has to get back to the lot somehow...). I love coming back, and leaving directly from the airport, from the arrivals curb.

If you have AAA, they provide a 10% discount. If you have coupons from other lots, they'll honor them.

Simply arrive at their lot about 30 minutes before you'd normally get to the airport for your flight out.

To get to Winner, get off of I-95 at Island Avenue, and go north on Island to Bertram. Turn right at the light at Bertrum and go two lights to Essington Avenue and turn left. Travel about a mile, and look for the red blinkiing lights for Winner Airport Valet Parking...it's on the left.

I hope this helps!
