Phillies just won the 2011 World Series

Actually they did a GREAT job and did what they needed to do, it was the offense that didn't do theirs.......

Are you kidding me, those same 3 pitchers lost to the worst offensive team in the playoffs. If they were such great pitchers they would have easily beat the Giants.

Same here!!! Yankee fans were just convinced that their big money could buy him. Got so sick of hearing that during the playoffs!

I'm happy for Cliff to be where he wants to be, and I admit the Phillies have great pitching...but Lee didn't win the World Series for the Rangers....so I wouldn't count your chickens yet. ;)

ITA. I got so tired of hearing that no player could *possibly* turn down the Yankees. And now of course, they're all saying, "Well, he's not so great. We didn't really want him anyway." Can we say sour grapes?? :rotfl:

And let's not forget that the Rangers were ten games ahead in the AL West before Lee ever came on board. We'll be just fine. :thumbsup2

I was floored when DH told me this morning before we left for work. Now, what I want to know is if he got a NO-trade clause in that contract of his. Cause money is fine, but you know the merry-go-round will start again come opening day.

Not really a baseball fan myself but really thought the Phils made a huge mistake in trading him.

Actually that would be incorrect. If you are looking at just the playoffs the Giants were ranked 2nd in almost all the offensive stats. The Phillies were all over the place, including 5th in batting average. It is a little hard for pitchers to win games when your team only batted .215 during the playoffs.

Don't count your chickens ................ Lots of teams making lots of moves.

There are 162 games, he can't pitch them all and well injuries happen.

I am happy with the moves Sox are making.

It is not any one player, but the team that can stay consistent & healthy.

OH BTW Go PATS!!!

On paper - or in real life, IMO - there probably is not now, nor has there ever been 4 better starters on a team, ever. Not even the Braves when they had Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and ( Avery? )....

I know I would rather have Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and hamels, for sure... and I actually like the Braves, though the Phillies are my favorite team.

Oh, if only you understood baseball.

The pitchers were fine. The hitters didn't hit.

There is offense and defense and pitching in a game, you know.

EDIT.... the only bad start by a pitcher against the Giants was by Joe Blanton.

LOL, if Ryan Howard chokes one more October, I may ask for some of his salary back. I don't care how great in plays through the year, why does he fizzle in October.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I was just about to post the same thing.

DH and I lament him all season. He may be a good player, but he's just not a clutch hitter. We call him Pedro Cerrano from "Major League". Big swings and can't hit a breaking ball. It would also help if the rest of the offense got involved.

The Giants hit out of their minds during the playoffs. They won't do it again next year.

All-Galaxy pitching doesn't guarantee a championship, just ask the Braves during the Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz days. What have the Phils done to bolster their hitting and replace Jason Werth?

That is my concern. They haven't done anything. I am a huge Phillies fan, but I think they are far from being an ace in the hole as the 2011 WS Champs.

If only YOU knew baseball. The Giants all season were a poor offensive team but the great Phillies pitching staff couldn't beat them. Remember great pitching beats great hitting, but supposed great pitchers couldn't beat mediocre hitting.

They do have some great young talent in the farm system. When they brought up Dominic Brown, he performed well.

:confused3 Did you read the story about the Phillie fan puking on a cop and his family on PURPOSE? And did you know that Phillie stadium has a booking desk downstair to process all those they get arrested at the game. So I think that Phillies fans are the worst around.

And I've never spit on anyone. I go to a lot of games and I've seen very little trouble. Every team has a few knucle head fans. Don't paint us all with the same brush. And I think it's the Eagles that have a court in the stadium.

dominic brown didnt performed well. he started off great than he really went downhill from there. they had him in a winter league he was batting .069 so they pulled him out of there to save face. i hope he gets good. right field should be our only problem this year with the hitting.you might see fransico and brown trading off in right field. than fransico giving ibanez some time off in left field.
