Does each person get NEW glasses or are they just reused over and over again? I ask becasue if they are just reused, then I can NOT take my dd to see it for health reasons. We have to keep her from catching colds as mch as possible....Thanks.

They reuse them. But if you need to keep her from catching colds as much as possible, then bringing her to WDW in the first place is probably pushing it, don't you think? Every single ride at WDW probably has germs over virtually every single inch of it. None of the ride cars or chairs or carousel horses or play areas are sanitized after every use, and every play surface and shopping surface and railing and turnstile has been touched by who knows how many people with who knows what ailments. Bring some hand sanitizer and wipe down the glasses before she puts them on and they should be fine. But truly, she's more likely to catch a cold from the kid sitting next to her than she would from the 3-D glasses.

Here's another idea.

I'm sure there's websites or stores of some sort out there that sell 3D glasses. Just try to grab some for yourself.

There is plenty of time to "wash" or sanitize the glasses before the show. Just be sure you have whatever cleansers you need. We have used antibacterial wipes and then polished the lenses with soft tissues.

The glasses are washed/sanitized after every use. They are actually trucked to Epcot and washed in the imagination machine that has ben used since it opened. Every morning there is a parade of carts from the Toontown area gates to PhilharMagic--an entire day's supply.

Yes, exactly, I was just about to write that! It's one thing to not sanitize something like ride vehicles every single day, but the glasses are being put on people's face--having contact not only with a person's hands, but also potentially their mouths and eyes.

Health issues aside, if they weren't cleaned, the lenses would probably be grimey and dirty also--and you wouldn't be able to see the screen as well. Don't worry, they're sanitized after each and every show (that's why you put them in the large buckets at the rear door). :3dglasses

Glasses should be the least of your worries. I have seen people sneeze on rnr, and the droplets get on theshoulder harness. I have seen people wipe their nose on their hands and sleeves and then wipe them off on various rides or doors, etc. Disney world is a mini day care. i can not even begin to imagine all the germs floating around mission space...yuck

Not to mention the number of people that never seem to wash their hands after using the restroom. Sorry, but it does happen.

What is the imagination machine? Thanks. :D

I'm sure it's just a machine that washes the glasses. The Imagination pavilion has always had a 3D movie, so I'm sure they have a machine that cleans and sanitizes the glasses.

I am so glad to know this! I always thought about the last person wearing "my" 3-D glasses having lice or something!! Now I won't worry!

The "IMAGINATION MACHINE" thats such a Disney name. I like that!!!! :earsboy:

I agree! It sounds like something that Figment would love, doesn't it? :)

I've always assumed that they washed them some way. I've never picked up one that was dirty.

If you are planning to fly to WDW, you may want to wear surgical masks. The air in the cabin will have many more germs than anywhere at WDW.

EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

Seriously...how old is your dd? The reason why I am asking is this. I have a dd who gets sick a lot, and EVERYTIME we have taken her to WDW...she ends up in the hospital. When she was 11 months, we ended the last 3 days of our vacation in the hospital with her (of course, I was also really sick on that trip...the Norwalk Virus left the cruise ships and invaded the park)!!

But, lo an behold...we ALSO ended up at the hospital on our last trip (dd is now 3). Good news is...we were already in their system!!! It really speeded things up!!!

So...I have been where you are, and I can second what other posters have said...the eyeglasses at Philharmagic REALLY are the least of your worries. There are so many germs, from so many people, from SO many countries....it is where GERMS go to party!!!!

If your dd has serious immune problems...I would really re-think WDW. If you decide to take her. I whole heartedly recommend having a car. The first time dd was admitted into the hospital, she was taken by ambulance from Celebration hospital (very close) all the way across town to a pediatric hospital (I honestly do not remember the name). DH had to follow in the car while dd and I rode in the ambulance. Then, he had to go back to the resort to get our belongings. Over the course of the next couple of days, he came and left (there was no where for him to sleep in the hospital room) many times. Each way was about 30 miles. Without a car, we would have spent BIG bucks on taxis.

Our dd does not have immune problems, she is just small for her age, and seems to get EVERYTHING that comes down the pike...this caused her to be hospitalized a few times during her first two years (when you are tiny, you cannot afford to dehydrate or lose too much weight). But, even with her being, by all testing results "normal", she gets sick EVERYTIME we go to WDW. There are just too many germs there that her body is not accustomed to fighting.

If you are worried enough about the germs from the glasses...I would seriously think about whether or not WDW is a good, safe place for your dd.

Just my 2cents...I'm not trying to be "pushy"...I'm just offering advice from a mom that has made hospital visits a regular part of my WDW vacations!!! I will be SOO happy the trip that we only have to visit the minor emergency center, and not an actual hospital!!!!

I would bring some Clorox or Lysol wipes with me, they are great when you have kids. Also, some Hand sanitizer to keep her hands clean before she eat anything, and tell her not to put her hands in her mouth.

If your child has a true immune disorder, you might want to try posting over on the disability boards. There are lots of children that take MAW trips that I am sure have to be very careful and I bet they would have lots of advice. My family has no issues but we go during flu season so I always carry hand sanitizer and we try hard to wash hands often and keeps hands away from our faces. So far, several winter trips and no illness.
