Thanks to the Disboards, I heard about The Other Boleyn Girl, which I loved. I'm hoping to read some more, but I'm not sure of the order to read them in. :confused3 Can anyone tell me what to read next? :thumbsup2

I read them all out of order but I believe it's:

The Other Boleyn Girl, The Queen's Fool, The Virgin's Lover, and The Constant Princess.

I could very well be wrong though since I just did that off the top of my head.

The Other Boelyn girl was the first book.
The Queen's Fool was second.
The Virgin's Lover was third
The Constant Princess was fourth
The Boelyn Inheritance is the most recent.

I read them in that order. I think they are supposed to be read in that order. The Queen's Fool is my favorite!! It's about Mary's reign as queen, told from the point of view of her "Holy Fool".

The Virgin's Lover is about Queen Elizabeth I and her reign and all that went along with that.

The Constant Princess was about Queen Katherine of Aragon and her first years as Queen and her trials to become the rightful queen of England.

The Boelyn Inheritance is three intertwining stories.

All very good books, very well written!

I think they are all available in paperback now.

happy reading!!princess:

All excellent books. Read them in the order that CampbellScot listed.

Me too - however I did want to keep referencing events in The Other Boleyn Girl during the Constant Princess. I know there wasn't much overlap but I found myself wanted to go back to the original story.

The Constant Princess is the one I haven't read yet but I plan on reading it really soon. It will be interesting to read about some of the events in The Queen's Fool from Mary's point of view.

What got me & my girlfriends hooked was the trilogy

Wideachre
The Favoured Child
Meridon

You will be hooked too!!!!:)

Forgot to tell you she has a site you can sign up for so you know when the next book is due out. My problem is she doesn't write quick enough so I have to read other authors about the Tudor period.

I've only read The Other Boleyn Girl, but I loved it! I intend to read the whole series in chronological order.

Now this was a strange trilogy. I never got past Wideacre because I couldn't find "The Favoured Child" in my library. That book started out really well, but the whole weird incest thing was quite graphic.

yep, I couldn't get past the first book. I don't think I even finished it once I figured the direction it was going. I have found that other than her books about the Tudors, I can't read Phillipa Gregory books. She doesn't hold anything back in terms of graphic description in her Tudor books either, but for some reason her other books just don't do it for me.:confused3

The Constant Princess was also VERY good. It was interesting to read how Katherine of Aragon came to be in England. Sort of sad really. I didn't like the most recent book as much as the others...It was interesting to read of Anne of Cleves who was rather beloved by most and managed to keep her head, but I KNEW what was coming and I know that history views Katherine Howard as a bit of a tragic figure. She was a pawn who knew nothing of the danger she was in and cried for the king to save her all the way to the block. I read that King Henry was quite distraught over her death as well but at that point he was so sick he was nearly out of his mind and he really wasn't making decisions any more. The books do a very good job mixing historical fact with Phillipa Gregory's idea of what might have gone on.

Great books regardless of who keeps her head or not though!princess:

I agree with everything you said!!

Right now, I am reading "Innocent Traitor" by Allison Weir. Her writing is very good also and I am enjoying it as much as Phillippa Gregory books. This particular one is about Lady Jane Gray. It is written sort of like "The Boleyn Inheritance" where there are several "voices" in the book: Jane Gray's, Katherine Parr's, and Jane Gray's mother (who was Henry VII's neice. Very good stuff.

Also, if you enjoy this type of historical fiction, I highly recommend Margaret George. I have read three of her books: Cleopatra, I, Elizabeth, and Mary of Magdalene.

Has anyone read Jean Plaidy's books? Philippa Gregory got me into the Tudors, but I really enjoyed the ones by Jean Plaidy as well. I have Katharine of Aragon, The Lady in the Tower (Anne Boleyn), The Rose Without a Thorn (Katherine Howard), and The Sixth Wife (Katherine Parr).

All of those are excellent as well!

I really like Phillipa Gregory too. She writes well.

Has anyone been watching The Tudors on Showtime? It's very good.

I'd love too but I don't have Showtime and am not into watching it on my computer. I hear it is quite racy. Just what this 43 year old woman is looking for.:woohoo:

We have DirectTV and they showed the first 2 episodes for free. I got hooked and am now paying for Showtime  It is indeed very racy

For the few pages that are given to this topic it is still a wonderful trilogy and hope that wouldn't stop you.
Unfortunatly insist was alive and kicking in Tudor times.
There is so much scandal in the books maybe it just isn't your cup of tea.

Actually, I *wanted* to continue with the trilogy but, as I said, my library does not carry The Favoured Child (but carried the other two:confused3 )and I didn't want to pay full price for the book. No one else I knew had it so I figured, I'll just wait until I run across the book (that was 5 years ago).;) Anyway, the incest issue didn't really bother me, but I did feel that it became a large part of the book and it was just so weird (the story at the end). But it was good enough that I really did want to continue with it.
