Does anyone prefer either Philadelphia airport or Newark airport over the other? If so, why? Trying to decide which to fly out of. I HATE driving to or thru Philadelphia because you never know what the traffic will be like.

We quite like Newark. We like to get an early flight so we get the Park and the fly deal at the Hampton Inn the night before and take the quick shuttle over to the Airport

We like Newark but we live closer to Newark. DH does not like driving out of the Philadelphia airport in the dark to get to I95/NJTPK, we always get lost and wind up in the middle of small towns. For Newark we get a car service, or take the NJTransit train/airtrain from our small town in Central NJ, or do a park/ride at a local hotel.

I check Philly first but will use Newark if I can get direct from there and will have a connection out of Philly. All things being equal though I'll chose Philly.

More / closer off site parking at Philly, if I have to use long term it's way closer at Philly then Newark. I haven't found a place like winner parking where they drop you off and pick you up in your own car at Newark that doesn't feel like I'm dropping my car off at a chop shop yet either. I use Philly about 10:1. Plus there is a Earl of Sandwich at the beginning of terminal D in Philly:tongue:

Over all though, Newark is a nicer air port IMO.

We're 45 minutes from EWR and 60 from PHL. We fly out of whichever is cheapest. Lately that's been EWR for us. Its a bit easier for us to go out of EWR, but PHL is fine too. Parking is cheaper at PHL and we really like the lot we use there. EWR is ok for parking, and the lot we use is good too. If I had my choice, I'd choose EWR most of the time, as I'm not a big fan on US Air, and we fly SW out of PHL. SW doesn't have any non-stops to FL from EWR yet, so we have to fly United or Jet Blue.

Flying out of newark for first time this November - do you have a lot you can recommend parking at?

I find the drive from central NJ to Philly airport to be very easy, I take the Walt Whitman bridge to 95. (I have driven into and out of Philadelphia (to and From CHoP) 100s of times, and the LACK of bad traffic is what amazes me.)

that said, we live 1/2 hour closer to Newark. But over the last 3-4 years, we have been mostly flying SW out of Philly. (or US Airways, or Air Tran) I always check both airports. At PHL we park at Winner, love it, they pick you up in your own car, you can drive straight home, and the drive back to NJ is so easy, you are 10 minutes to the WW bridge and then the NJ turnpike).

I stopped even looking at Spirit out of AC, their fees are just ridiculous and I refuse to deal with them anymore. (their planes and crew were fine, IMHO)

It's probably equal distance to both for us, but we always fly out of PHL. Can't stand going to Newark.

Although we live closer to Newark, we have mostly flown out of Philly, as flights have usually been much cheaper. LOVE Winner parking! Very convenient and excellent service! So much easier when traveling with small children.

This is our first time we are flying as a family out of Newark. We have a 6:15 am flight. I am lost deciding on parking, as they all seem to get bad reviews.

Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated! How much time would you allow for parking offsite at Newark?? Anyone have success with park and fly?

We live 45 minutes from airport and car service is $200-300 round trip!

Thanks!

When we use EWR we park at The Parking Spot 2. They're pretty cheap and we've never had a problem leaving our car there. There is no service like Winner at EWR, you have to park your car and take a shuttle to the terminal. You an get good coupons from PS2's website. Make a reservation, their lot is a little small and if you're traveling during a popular time, their lot could be filled.

We are closer to Newark, and do prefer going there. We were big continental fans, but not United fans, so now I think we'll end up being 50/50 Newark and Phil. We both got the SW credit card so until our points are gone, I guess we'll go out of Phil since EWR doesn't seem to have any direct flights on SW. PHL is easy to get to from Central Jersey, though it does take an extra 30 min. We parked in Central Air park, which is right off the highway, then it was easy to get right back on.

While I like southwest prices, and the free luggage, I didn't enjoy my flight(extremely cramped, no tvs, and the seating scenario), so I guess it will probably depend on price and schedule. I no longer feel the loyalty to any one airline that I previously felt with Continental.
