Oooo, I want to vacation with you!

we'll have to get a drink (or two) after the Minnie!

Cindy - Sluggishness? I'd say you're probably still drunk! Great pace for being sloshed!;)

[
Cindy - How's that 10-step program coming along after Jamaica?:rotfl:

Don't judge! It was an all inclusive resort - I had to get my money's worth!

Mike - I used the Smart Coach to train for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler last year. That was, by far the best race I have ever run in terms of how I ran it. I put in "hard" for how I wanted to train and it was probably a bit too much so I ended up shaving some miles off some of the tempo runs and speed work.

Jodi - I forgot to tell you, guess what book I got before I went to Jamaica? Chi Running! I haven't even looked at it yet but I will.

Lou - I hope you are feeling better soon!

Dave - what kind of class do you teach?

Kira - congrats on signing up for your first race!

So, everyone's in for Bay to Breakers Centipede team in May '09 and Reach the Beach in Sept. '09, right? The centipede teams usually wear matching costumes, I vote we let Chester design them for us.:rotfl: In all seriousness, I do think those would be fun events and would be interested, that is assuming once you all actually meet me, you decide that I am cool enough to run with you:worship:

Oh yeah, I ran 4 miles this morning. Nothing special, but at least it wasn't at a snail's pace, like yesterday.

AmyBeth~ You definitely need to run Philly with us! It would be great to run with you and everyone else.... looks like a BIG Wish contingent will be there.

I just got home from the Spirit of the Marathon movie. I REALLY enjoyed it! It followed runners of 4 or 5 different walks of life/abilities/ages during their training and build up to the 2005 Chicago Marathon. Having run in the last Chicago Distance Classic (Half), many of the scenes were familiar of the course, hotels, buildings, etc. Deena Kastor was the focus of the woman's elite runner group. She won that year, what a remarkable athlete she is. There were several other "normal" runners participating in their first marathon, others running many others before it. It truly made me want to do it all over again. I am really glad I am planning MCM and Philly later this year.

Hey All: I did 40 min on the exercise bike this morning. Felt pretty good, and did lots of stretching afterwards.

Jodi- I was listening to this week's DIS Unplugged e-mail show while I was riding and I hear your voice mail. They said you didn't leave your e-mail address, so they couldn't contact you - and they wanted you to e-mail in. Did you hear the show yet?

Dave - Hi! Yep, I heard it & sent them my address! Thanks for being so vigilant:lmao: Glad you've been able to sneak some exercise in there, even though the hip sucks! Go easy!

Cindy - Read that book, it'll be time well spent, guaranteed!

Jodi- Did I ever tell you that I have the book Chi Running too? I got it about a year ago and loaned it to a friend. She kept it for about a year and eventually lost it. A couple weeks ago she gave me a new copy that she purchased. Maybe I should look at it too.

Dave - No, I didn't know....Please, please, please check it out, ASAP.

I was bad - I skipped my tempo run this morning. I decided it was too cold. I really need to get around to joining the gym.

I am going skiing this weekend, which is funny because I don't ski. I've actually skiied exactly 3 times in my life, the last of which was in 1998 - I still have the lift ticket on my ski jacket. DH and I are renting a house with 5 other couples at "Virgina's best ski resort" (that should make any real skiiers laugh). Hopefully I won't break my leg or something stupid like that. I'm looking forward to it, but it is really bad timing since we just got back from Jamaica, but, as you can imagine, it is really hard to coordinate a weekend for 12 people to go away together.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Chi Running...I'm in. Looks like an interesting book. I just bought the book off Amazon. My mid section broke down at WDW. I think I could use some Yoga, Pilates , or something besides just running.

The flu is slowing going away. I changed it up a bit today. Did 10 minutes on TM, then 20 minutes on lifecycle, and 20 on TM. I need to find a way outside this weekend to do a LR. Looks like Sunday is the day. Warmer temps (40) and no football.

Actually, we are probably the most "un-cool" cool W.I.S.H.ers around. We are only truly "cool" when we are all together. There's always room for one more.

PS Just by participating on this thread you are already "cool".:cool1:

Ran 3 quick miles last night in a light rain. Going to try to go to the County fair tomorrow.

Lou

Lou....YES...yoga and pilates are EXCELLENT cross-training options for runners. I have quite a few runners in my pilates classes! :thumbsup2 For me I noticed that the soreness I'd get in my abdominal region after longer runs completely went away when I got serious about my pilates practice. Both yoga and pilates are also excellent ways to stretch the running muscles...they both provide a counter-active form of exercise. Running pounds the joints and contracts the muscles while pilates lengthens the muscles and strengthens the core. I highly recommend it to all my running friends :). Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Howard...I really think Philly Half is a solid bet. The timing is perfect for my Goofy training :).

Jodi...gotta' check out that Chi of Running book...I know...hard to believe I haven't read it yet. I will look into it for sure. I can use all the zen power I can muster out there!

Dave..Hope the hip(s) feel better soon. That was my major injury last year...so take it seriously and give yourself time to heal :).

Good luck to you guys on those big relay events. Sounds like FUN! Especially the centipede deal LOL.

So I actually....wait for it....RAN last night. I know...shocking. But don't get too excited...it was only 2 miles at a comfy 9:11 pace. Sunday I'm aiming for somewhere between 4 and 6 miles. Yes...I'm really really easing my way back into training. But to be fair I did 8 hours of Pilates this week. That's gotta' count for something right??? Have a great weekend. :goodvibes

Amy - Good luck you guys??? WTH? Didn't you read the fine print? Once you post 3 times on this thread you are required to participate in any event that the group decides. Welcome aboard!

Cindy - Have fun on the slopes (or in the lodge?). Don't break a leg. Remember, hot totties and skiing could lead to a "sluggish" performance :lmao: .

Howard - I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I'm hoping it comes out on DVD sometime soon.

Jodi - Hey ChiChi. Are you getting royalties or something? Maybe we should start a book club. You can assign us a couple of chapters to read then lead the discussion.

I tell you what. I promise to read that dang book if you can guarantee I won't wake up somewhere and find some poneytail wearing dude trying to stick needles into my inner thigh:scared1: .

I had a Pokey Little Puppy 6 mile "easy run" last night. It took me about 3 miles to slow down anywhere near the pace the "Smart Coach" wants me to run and I still was about 15 seconds/mile too fast. I'm scheduled to do 12 miles tomorrow at the same pace.

I hope those experts know what they're talking about. Just about the time I get use to running at that pace it's gonna be time to ramp it up by about a buck-fifteen per mile for the race. We'll see.

Hello Everyone

Holy smokes; this thread is (slightly) beginning to overwhelm me like the "Big Thread" :scared: I will try my best to keep up.

I'm getting back into it; I've done 15 miles this week. I'd really like to shoot for 20-25/week throughout the winter. Eh, we'll see how it goes. I am signed-up for the local Mid-Winter 10-mile on Feb. 3.

I am totally in for the Reach the Beach in whatever year you decide; that's (nearly) local for me.

I am glad that all seems well with everyone. (Jodi :ssst: Don't tell Mike, but I bought Chi Running months ago; I have not read it yet, but I will :) )

Take care everyone; I'm already getting excited for Philly and it's 10 months away!

Hey Team: :surfweb:

OK, I decided NOT to run with my Fleet Feet group for the LR this morning. I think it's running with them, and running too fast too soon that has irritated my hip. I'm going to give it time to heal up, and am going to hit the bike this morning. Pretty boring, but I'll put on the DIS Unplugged Podcast and entertain myself.

Amy- Thanks for the advice. Your comment that the ITB syndrome was your major injury last year really hit home with me. I'm not training for much right now, and I'm going to give myself the time to heal. I think I'll be OK for the Cleveland 1/2M with my SiL. I don't need to run the full marathon, and I can be healed up when training for Philly starts.

Cindy- I'm not sure I ever answered you about what I'm teaching. I'm a neuroscientist, and right now I'm teaching a research methods course in the Psychology Department. It's a pretty basic course on how to design a research study and a little dry, but I'm trying to spice it up with examples from my own research. I'm liking it so far.

Howdy Folks:

OK, I did 60 min on the exercise bike, followed by 30 min of stretching. I was rocking out on my iPOD. Off to do all the Saturday run around stuff now.

Hi guys,

I survived the marathon, two days later, I survived my mother's week long visit, and I survived my first week of my new part-time job at my kid's school! Boy am I tired. Sorry I haven't been able to keep up the last few weeks.

Today was my first day exercising since the marathon. I was able to get out for a nice 5.5 mile walk and did I feel GREAT!! I really need to carve out time for exercise, I just don't know how you working parents do it. And to all those single parents:worship: .

Off to do some of those Saturday tasks that Dave is doing!

Hi Chester, hope Chet is feeling better. I was great to finally meet you and Tracy!

Mike, as for me paying for all these races, it remains to be seen if I am actually going to be "making" money with this little part time job. I guess we will wait until tax season to see how it all shakes out.

Sara, did you have a Happy Birthday? Is Disney still there?

Jodi, so little girl, how on earth were you able to crank out the 4:30 for the marathon?popcorn::

One last thing, I was checking over my room bill for the Disney marathon and it was a little LOWER than what I expected. Then I realized that I wasn't charged for my meal at Spoodles. I guess things just got a little too confusing for our wait staff.:rolleyes1

I ran 3 miles on the TM at the Y today with an overall pace of 10:43. I had some shin pain, but was able to pause and stretch out which made better over time.

I am looking forward to runnig Philly with you all. Take Care!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hello Folks,

Sara - Home yet?

Howard - Thanks for keeping in touch. I'm glad the shins responded well to the stretching. It's pretty amazing to me that you're not in a wheelchair after doing Goofy with the limited training you were able to squeeze in:worship: .

Dave - Taking it slow and easy is probably the best medicine at this point. Cool that you are enjoying your class so far.

Colleen - So what are you doing at the school? Teaching the little angels how to do math or are you cleaning chalkboards? See, with your savings from Spoodles, there's more for races! Yippee that you got out for some miles and felt good.

SilverSteve - Hey buddy! Sorry. I'll try not to post too much; keep the thread more manageable for you ;) . 20-25 miles/week sound pretty good. I'll be honest though, I'd have trouble hitting that if I didn't have an event looming (I think. I guess I've had an event looming non-stop since I started running about 18 months ago  ).

I did 12+ easy miles at a nice and relaxed pace today. All went just fine. Best part, we had tacos for lunch when I got back. Yum!

Hey DisBots:)

Mike - What, no burritos b4 the run? 12 miles, eh? Wow, that's impressive - I'm glad it went well w/o any nasty side effects...seems you'll be ready to race again in no time!

Dave - Ok, since I can't even pronounce your occupation I won't even try to understand it...however, I do vaguely remember you telling me about what you do during the MCM:laughing: . Glad you're able to find ways to excercise w/o aggrevating the hip more.

Sara - Get much exercise during your business trippopcorn:: ?

Colleen - I LOVE it when people forget to charge me for stuff! WTG! I'm so glad your walk felt good today, that's important after big events, makes you wanna do one again!:cool1: Good luck w/ the new job. Makin' the Jing for more races!!

HummuSteve - Glad that you bought the book...now read it already! What's next on your sched.?

Cindy - You, too w/ the Chi Book. I mean, I'm glad ya'll are buying it, but someone really should read it. Mike's afraid of waking up to a pony-tailed dude massaging his inner thigh:hippie: I'm sure you have no such reservations:rolleyes1 .

Amy - Cool that you're into Pilates & Yoga, I gotta do that. The whole principle of ChiRunning is running w/ your core, not your legs, I'm sure you're already doing that by the sounds of it!

Howard - WTG on the 3 miles, watch those shins...don't forget to self-massage those bad boys...Mike can explain how..;)

Ran 8 today, CT Thurs. Ran 4 Tues. & 6 Mon. Tomorrow I think I'll run 5 or 6...so far all w/o anything bad happening...go figure
Hi to all I missed.

Ran 8 today, CT Thurs. Ran 4 Tues. & 6 Mon. Tomorrow I think I'll run 5 or 6.

What the heck?!? 12 miles for Mike today, almost 30 miles for the week for Jodi, excuse me, did you two sign up for another race next month and not tell me?!?

Mike, they offered me a few jobs at the school, it was a tough choice b/w Math tutor and cafeteria table washer, chalk brush cleaner was already taken.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. I thought the whole point of this thread was to make it more manageable to keep up with people since this one wouldn't move as fast as the weekly thread. I skimmed for 10 minutes, since I'm a slow reader, and this is what I got:

Mike and Jodi train too much, Dave is into Chi running, Steve did 15 miles this week and also feels overwhelmed by the thread (must be in the name, Steve), Theta/Colleen survived her new job and a WEEK LONG visit from the mom, and all the other regulars checked in, too. I guess if I'm going to be a true friend, I really need to get on here more than once every two days. By the way, Colleen, I'm still not buying your excuse for changing your name to Theta. My suspicion is that you secretly want to be like Prince and change your name to an unpronouncable symbol. :)

Ok, for real, I am going to go back and read a little more thoroughly. Glad you guys are doing well. I'm still on the fence about Philly. I really do want to run it with you guys, but the timing of the baby and taking yet another trip for a race may be the overriding factors. It doesn't reach a capacity limit, does it? I'm hoping I have at least a month or two to decide.

Hope you guys are all having a good weekend. By the way, Jodi, Steve and any other northeasterners, are you guys still digging out from the mountains of snow. Take care, all!

Steve
