Philadelphia Help

I know there are several DIS'ers from Philly and I was wondering if you can Help. My DD,11 and I are going to Philly for 2 days next Tues. & Wed. We are primarily going to see the TUT exhibit so we have a 3PM ticket for that. I want to do as much as possible in a short time. We expect to get there around 10 on Tuesday and it doesn't matter when we leave Wed. What is your best touring advice and what are the what not to miss attractions? My DD loves history so of course we want to see Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell but what else would you recommend? Thanks everyone!

Independence Hall is good, you are already doing Franklin Institute. You could do the art museum. I think for the time you have that is plenty.

I would recommend a cheesesteak from Pat's or Gino's, and at least one Philly soft pretzel.

In the area around independence hall, take a carriage ride. The ride will take you through the old city and will give you some facts about the founding fathers and will point out things that Ben Franklin invented. The tours are a lot of fun and the guides can recommend other places to go also.

The constitution center is supposed to be a good place to visit. I have not been there yet, but I've only heard good things about it.

I have definitely seen alot less histocirc stuff than most tourists and I have lived here for almost two years. So I can't really help you there.

I would suggest the Art Museum. It is beautiful inside and out. You can run up the Rocky steps. That is near Love Park and City Hall. Also my little sister got a kick out of this one place across from city hall I took her too when she slept over. It is a bunch of giant game board pieces (monopoly, dominos, sorry, bingo, etc.) you can climb on, if you will be close, wouldn't hurt to stop by a nd take a few cute pics.

Definitely try a soft pretzel, and I here the cheesesteaks are incredible (I odnt eat meat). We also have some great shopping!

In that same area is the almost brand spanking new "Constitution Center"... about 2 blocks away from the Liberty Bell.

Or, since you are right in the area, get one from Gianfranco's at 3rd and Market St.

Oh, and say "no" to Cheese Whiz! It ain't even food!

While you are at the Independence Hall/Liberty bell area go about 2 blocks north to Christ Church. It is where all the founding fathers worshiped and in side you can sit in Washington's pew etc. Also many famous people are buried there and my kids like looking at the headstones. Besty Ross's house is also in the area and interesting.further north and a bit west. Benjamin Franklin's print shop is there just to the west of the Liberty Bell. I haven't been to the new Ind. Center yet but hope to this summer.

Everyone has already mentioned some great places!

I just saw the TUT exhibit yesterday! It was great! Get the audio tour with Omar Sharif, it had lots of good info.

The building Alyssa mentioned: amongst the game pieces is a big statue of Mayor Frank Rizzo, he's kind of legendary here in Philly!
