Philadelphia-area peeps...Questions about moving...

My has been laid off since the beginning of Feb. He went for a job interview in King of Prussia today. He doesn't mind commuting (it's about an hour on a good day with no traffic on the NE Extension) but he got the feeling from the person who interviewed him that they may want him/us to move to that area. I know that that area tends to be pricey...And I'm not sure we could afford much in the way of a home there. I also don't know surrounding areas very well, in the KofP area.

Can anyone give me some ideas of little towns around there, with good school districts? My kids are older, going into 10th grade and going into 6th. I'm not thrilled with the idea of uprooting them now, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I work in KOP and live 15 minutes west in Eagleville. There are plenty of affordable places within 30 minutes of KOP. Looking at places to the west (off of 422) would probably be your best option, but some places in Delaware County aren't far and are pretty afforable (Haverford/Havertown comes to mind).

Hi Marcyinpa! We live in the Lehigh Valley like you do, and my DH commutes to Newtown Square, about 15 min. south of KOP. He takes the NE Ext & then the Blue Route to work. It takes about 1 hour & 15 min on a good day. It's do-able for us only because he only goes to that office once or twice a week, 3 times max. If your DH has to be there every day the commute might be too much.

My brother, who used to work in KOP, lives west of there, near Gilbertsville/Boyertown/Pottstown. I think he said his commute was between 30-40 min. off of Rt 422, and there is very affordable housing in rural areas out that way.

Most of my family lives in Audubon (close to Eagleville and mla apparently!) My cousins are in the Methacton school district which I understand is pretty good. I have no idea about housing prices though.

I'd love to move to that area, but alas, they pay me to be in DC instead.

Tara, I REALLY REALLY don't want to move. I love Bethlehem...lived here almost my entire life. I don't want to give up my job, and my oldest son does not want to go anywhere but Liberty.

BUT....if my DH is offered the job, and it's good pay, etc., AND the offer is contingent on us moving, then, well, I guess we need to do it.

I think my DH can handle the commute...he used to commute to Clifton NJ (right outside of NYC) for a few years, but then changed jobs to something more in his field. That commute SUCKED....an hour and 45 minutes on I78...BLAH!!

We are now in prayer mode...if it's meant to be, then it will be, and everything will work out according to plan!
