i will be spending a long weekend in philadelphia. it is a pure leisure weekend. i will be staying at the hyatt at penns landing, and going to a couple of phillies games. i wont have a car, and was thinking of walking the south street area in the afternoon and evenings. any thoughts on what not to miss? or places to avoid?

I don't know philly as well as some others on here, but I went out there alot during college, and I just spent a weekend there last month with my boyfriend. South street is definitely really neat and a good area to walk around. It has tons of little stores, places to eat, and then Avenue of the arts is just up the street from there (run perpendicular) and that has some more places where you can walk around. Rittenhouse Square has some great shopping. If you want to hit the bars, check out Olde City.

thanks for the reply. i will have to see if i can find some things about old city.

i will give this one more shot on the first page.

Hiya! I live right here in Philly, about 3 blocks from the stadium. South Street is fun to poke around there, its like a mini-greenwich village. Definitly very Colorful people there to people watch! There is a great restaurant down at the end of South Street called "Pietro's Coal Oven Pizzeria". We go there a few times a month. Mostly South Street is bars, restaurants, flower shops, jewerly shops and porn shops!
Old City is a great area to walk around as well. Check out Bleu Martini, great little bar up there. You could also walk around market street and check out the Independence Visitors Center, they have all the tickets to the tourist attractions. You could do a horse and buggy ride there that will give you a nice little tour of the city. Another fun thing to do is wander around the 9th street Italian Market. Go have breakfast at Sabrina's cafe and get some coffee at the Italian Coffee House, or stop by for water ice. There are soooo many more things to do in Philly. PM me if you would like any other info.

I work in Old City, and know Philly pretty well. Tell me your specifics of what you want to do....

On South St. Go to Manny Browns and have some chicken fingers, OMG now I want some just thinking about them.

Did you ever do the Ride the Ducks tour in Philly? Its really neat, you get a good tour of the city (South St included) , plus it rides in the river for awhile. You get the tickets at the Constitution Center.
