Okay, so today I was just looking at airfares for January and got this great deal at $122 round trip non-stop from Phila to Orlando. Need your help - we have an early morning flight out and need help on a modestly priced hotel near the airport with shuttle and allows you to keep your car during your stay. Any suggestions appreciated

We've used the 4 points by sheraton, it's around $110/night and has a 24 hour shuttle. Parking is free for the first 7 days.

I just stayed at the Airport Marriott for a work trip to Philly. I believe I paid $250 at a AAA rate, but I also booked it last minute. The hotel is conneced to the airport at Terminal B, so you literally don't even have to walk outside. You walk across a walkway and right into the hotel. Couldn't have been easier. The subway stop is also in the same place, so that was very convenient as well if you're coming in on that which I would suggest if you're anywhere near a rail line. When I left the next morning, I walked back the same way and there was a TSA security checkpoint right there as well with no line. Super convenient, even if you have to walk a few extra steps to get to your terminal once inside. Worth the few extra bucks for the convenience as well, IMO.

The issue with the Marriott is that you have to pay $20/night to leave your car there, as opposed to the other hotels in the area that let you leave your car for the week as part of the reservation rate. The way the OP worded the question, I assume they are local-ish to the philly area and looking for a park and fly hotel. The Marriott is conveniently located but not necessarily the most convenient all things considered.

Also, it's not the subway, it's the SEPTA regional rail that stops at each terminal at PHL. It's "convenient" if you have time to kill and don't mind likely having to switch trains in center city to get on the airport line.

That's why I said if they're local and near a rail line, it's pretty convenient. By taking the rail in, if feasible, you can avoid parking your car there all together. If not, then yes, you'd have to incur parking charges which is not a great option.

I assume you're not from philly if you're under the impression that the septa service out to the airport is convenient... In theory it could work if the OP is close to a septa station where they live and would want to switch trains in center city with their luggage. Most of the septa stations don't allow for long term parking in the lots though so theyd need to find a ride if they take this option or risk towing. The septa lots are also not free.

To me, as a local who uses septa often to go into the city for dinner, that's a lot more hassle to fight my way down to the airport with all of my stuff (multiplied with family and their bags) fighting commuters for space and with inconsistent service (the R1 to the airport is often 20+ minutes late once it gets into center city based on the southbound route it originated on), the night before an early flight. So the OP could take the train in to center city from where they live and have to get all of their bags off of one train, may have to go up stairs and around to change platforms for the R1 and wait for a while, possibly up to an hour to get on the R1, then it's about a 40 minute ride to the airport.

The OP has a few options though and will likely find one that fits the bill. Not sure it's septa but to each their own. I personally wouldn't chose to use Septa to stay at a more expensive hotel just to be able to walk to Terminal B. And if you have bags to check and are flying out of another terminal, from the Marriott you're hauling bags across the walkway to terminal B of the airport, and then down to whichever terminal you need to go to (southwest, for example, is flying out of D and E currently), if you're checking bags, you need to go downstairs to check them, then back upstairs for security. The other hotels in the area are about a 5 minute ride to your terminal where you can use curbside or check inside without the hassle.

A business traveler with minimal bags and traveling alone, totally different scenario than a family going on vacation. In that case the Marriott is a no brainer. Not sure what the OP's situation is but there are several options to consider.

I'm not from Philly but as a business traveler who just relied solely on the septa for four days last month, I found it much better than comparable public transit in other major cities Ive visited. I had to go out to Perkasie while there. I took the rail from the airport to Lansdale, didn't have to change trains, and when I got off I took a 10 minute cab ride. If I lived in that area, for example, I would take advantage of it. That's all I was saying. To each their own.

There is a Hilton or Doubletree (can't remember which) close to the airport. We have stayed overnight, parked there and left our car for a few trips (no charge). They also have a shuttle to the airport.

You state that you have an early morning flight. Whoever you go with, just make sure that they have a 24 hour shuttle. When I did this a few years ago, some shuttles did not start until 5 or 6 am and we had a 6 am flight.

We are flying out of Philadelphia in January at 6:45am. At 330am we will head to the airport and park at Expresspark North for $7.95 a day. They transport us to the airport for free and will pick us up when we return and take us back to our car. They are great, I forgot my luggage under the floor of our van one time and when I realized it we were at the airport, Our drive grabbed my husband and drove him back to get it and had him back in line with us before our luggage was even taken from us and checked in. If you decide just to drive over the day of your flight check out Expresspark.

We have used Microtel by the airport. Its about $115/night and free parking for 14 days. Relatively new property too.

I used hotelnparking.com to get a room at Sheraton Four Points for $148.35 with 10 days of secure parking. This will be our 4th or 5th time staying there, the shuttle service is the best of any park 'n fly places we've stayed anywhere.
