What does a straight gal know..

Personally, it was $100 bucks and 2+ hours of my life I'll never get back. On the other hand, I sat next to a lady in the theater who was seeing it for the 8th time! I guess it all depends on what you like.

I love the show.. however, like 2moms said- you either love it or hate it.
I suggest watching the movie first while keeping in mind that it will look a little different on stage and probably have better singing!

I need to pick out some music for a show, my co-host told me that anything from the Phantom as it fits me!

How does one understand that statement?

I loved this show! I have only seen it one time when it came to Providence, that was a number of years ago.
The couple we went with had seen it at least 5 times!

Phantom is one of the most wonderful musicals ever made..hands down..no discussion, just plain period!!!

If you are going to research songs from the musical, I would highly recommed getting the original cast album, Michael Crawford and Sarah Brighman as The Phantom and the beautiful Christine Daaé.

Im pretty sure there is no other broadway singer with a more beautiful voice than Sarah , its actualy goose bump beautiful. Michael is amazing as the Phantom ,I had the honor of seeing the show when it first opened with both...I have seen it 6 more times since than with some decent cast members but never felt as magical as with them.

I could go on gushing about the costumes and the sets and story for a good many pages but shall stop here for now .

The story is very romantic, very sad, very just wonderful!

If you're interested, then you should go see it.

Everyone else in my family LOVED it.

I've seen it twice (Toronto & Broadway), but, sadly, agree with 2moms' opinion.

I did not like it at all! I'm not a big fan of the music and the storyline feels hugely sexist to me. (I much preferred Les Miserables!!!)

But, if you have a sense you might like it, you should go!

Alright.. what does this straight gal know then.. I loved it, I love anything in period costumes ala Victorian with a bit of French thrown in.. OK, I am now officially doomed over here, my new best friends hated Phantom. *sigh*

I loved Wicked too, did you like that?? Anyone?

Phantom of the Opera is one of the big, glitzy, hyped mid-1980s productions that also included Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Into the Woods. All are great productions and I would see any one of them again.

My only advice is to read a plot synopsis prior to going into the show. The first time I saw Phantom I had no knowledge about the storyline other than the most vague idea that a disfigured man haunted the Paris Opera House. You need more background to fully appreciate the show.

I will admit I prefer some more of the subdued productions found on Broadway including ixiedust: Wicked (AMAZING!), Avenue Q, and Mama Mia. I will always love CATS (my first Broadway show experience), Wicked, Chorus Line and Sunset Blvd. So no bashing those or I'll come at you with the big gun.

There are two shows I could not believe I saw: Titanic and Jekyll & Hyde. UGH.

It must mean you have lovey voice - I've only seen the movie which was a hell of a mess and the songs for the phantom seem heavy handed but I 've always loved the songs for the female lead. I'll think I'll listen to that today at work.
