I am about 8 weeks pregnant right now. So far, I 've been really lucky as far as physical symptons go. I haven't been too sick, tired, etc. However, I am starting to have a problem, but I don't know if I should blame it on being pregnant or if I'm just going nuts!

For the last week or so, I have been so incredibly distracted, restless, irritable, etc. I can't seem to concentrate on anything for more than 10 minutes. I have so much to do at work and to get ready for our Disney trip, but I can't seem to make myself do any of it. I just kind of wander from thing to thing, not really getting anything done. My house is a wreck because I just can't get motivated to do anything. This is totally not like me! I'm usually extremely foccused and organized - I swear! I haven't been able to sleep at night. I just lie awake tossing and turning. I can't even sit down and concentrate long enough to watch a movie with my husband. I'm just too restless and unsettled to do much of anything.

My husband and I really are thrilled about the baby. We've wanted this for a long time. My job is great. My family and friends are wonderful. I really don't have any stresses to speak of. I'm not depressed or anything. I don't feel sad, I just have a total lack of concentration!

Has anybody else ever experienced this during a pregnancy? Or am I going crazy?

Every time I was pregnant I did the same thing. Everything was kind of half done, I couldn't seem to concentrate on any one thing.

It's perfectly normal to not be motivated, my Dr. once told me that what is going on in your body right now is the equivalent of climbing a mountain, it's just happening on the inside, so you don't see it. Get rest, that's the best medicine. You'll start to feel normal pretty soon, it doesn't usually last the entire pregnancy.

Hormones or losing your mind?

I bet that you are losing your mind....because of the hormones. :teeth:

Don't worry about it, your body is probably just fixing it so you don't have motivation for anything else so you'll focus on your pregnancy! ;) Wait until the nesting kicks in, you'll have plenty of motivation then!

I'm still waiting for that effect of pregnancy to go away! LOL! my youngest will be 5 in Jan.....

Didn't you know that brain cells take a hike during pregnancy? :teeth: You're normal.

LOL! Me too, but my youngest is almost 6 1/2 years old.:teeth:

I also became VERY forgetful when I was pregnant. I don't know how many potholders I burnt when I was pregnant. Too many to count.:o And I was constantly locking myself out of the house. And you could forget about me being on time to meet someone at a new place I'd never been before. I'd get lost everytime (but I'm bad about that now, I was worse when I was pregnant).

Your kid is already making you crazy already :p :p :p

Seriously, do you have nursery stuff picked out, room decorating ideas yet, peditrician, etc? If not that could be part of your restlessness. It is just hard to take it easy until you start getting things underway.
Well that is how I am anyway.
You are not crazy and
CONGRATULATIONS!

You're completely and totally normal. I don't know how people manage when they get pregnant early in their marriages, because I think DH would have divorced me early in my pregnancy if he didn't know that I wasn't acting like myself. You will get much better in just a few weeks. It seems to take forever, but one day you'll probably wake up and be a new woman, at least for 3 months. :) You may still have problems with forgetfulness and concentrating, but most parts will get much better.

My husband says there is such a thing as gestational alzheimers! And I suffered from it EVERY time I was pregnant.... he used to say he was impressed I found my way back home some days!

I went to my ob/gyn recently because, after having a tubal ligation in June, I've felt like this once a month! She said this is typical for up to a year after surgery, due to the hormone fluctuations, so, look at it this way, at least you have an excuse (and something wonderful to look forward to!)!
Hang in there...

I have to say that you are completely normal...either that or those of us on this thread are just all crazy! :jester:

I was restless and very forgetful. I started taking wrong turns on the way to work, forgetting to pay bills, etc. and I was always dropping things and just couldn't concentrate on anything to save my life.

It is a wonder that any of us survive pregnancy and are not hit by a bus or something. :)

This is preparation for life with children because they will not let you concentrate on anything for more than a minute for at least the next 10 years!

All kidding aside, your life will never be the same.....but it will be so much richer. Best of luck with your pregnancy and life as a family of 3!

I am living with a menopausal mother who has these symptoms, especially the forgetfulness! So its is estrogen/hormone related.

Be prepared to feel like this again when you hit menopause!

Also, if you are anemic you can have these symptoms and pregnancy can increase your anemia and thus the symptoms.
