Pet's name & the meaning behind it!

DH named Jazz...technically he got her before we moved in together - so she's HIS dog. :) Her official AKC name is "Buck's Little T Jazz"

she responds to Jazzy, Spazzy, Jazzo, Spazzo (can you tell she's hyper?), and stinky. (everyone in my house is nicknamed stinky)

I grew up with a Sheltie (a mini-lassie dog) named Cesare because we got him during Holy Week. :) (My mom named him) he lived 14 long happy years.

She has 2 more shelties now...the first one she named Logan. The second one I wanted to name Bradley (to go along with the airport names. heheh - Hey - he was amost Dulles!) but we got him when he was 8 months old and he was already attached to his name, Kody.

of course - my brother and I call them worthless and useless. hehehe

I have 2 cats, Cheeky and Figaro and 3 rabbits, Holly, Mistletoe (Misty) and Saphire (Saphie)

Cheeky was named as he was a stray and he invited himself into our house one day and decided it was his new home. We found out a few years later that he was only 10 weeks old when he came to us and he ran away from his house as the little girl who lived there used to swing him round by his tail. I thought he was fairly cheeky in doing that! I think that he also thinks his name is Wiskas though as he loves his Wiskas cat food and if you shout Wiskas he comes running over!!
Figaro was given to me by a child I taught at school. Her cat had just had kittens so I said I would have one. I let my class suggest some names and one suggested Figaro as that was her cats name. I liked it as I like Mozarts music.
Holly and Mistletoe were christmas presents so I named them after christmas things. Saphire was given to us as her owners could no longer look after her so she already had that name when we got her.

Hi everyone!

I have 3 cats-- Chocolate, Jasmine and Marco Polo (all female).

Chocolate is a Siamese mix -- mostly Siamese with something else mixed in. Called her Chocolate because one of her paws is black, brown and white spotted (the rest are all black). Looks like she stepped into a glass of Hershey's Quik with her 1 paw.

Jasmine is a long-hair something or the other (sort of tortoise shell colored). She just looked exotic so the name Jasmine. seemed to fit.

Marco Polo is white short hair with black spots (I like to think that 3 of them form a quasi-psychedelic hidden Mickey). She got her name from being the only explorer cat in the house. She's been in every nook and cranny, every closet, every drawer, behind things, under things. Just a natural born explorer.

They are all pound cats. And yeah, I know M.P. was a guy, but the name fits and she seems to like it -- at least when she chooses to pay us any mind.

Pippin (photo at left) is our double-pawed pixie bob that we adopted from the local animal shelter. They had named her "Rosie" but she's really not a Rosie. So we looked up names online and saw that Pippin means "one who is adored" so we gave her the name. It's a not a LOTR reference, though she is rather built like a hobbit. :)

I have 4 cats currently.

Sam - female - short for SAMAN. Calico long-tailed manx. We couldn't come up with a name for her, and didn't like the name her previous owner gave her (Cali). We got her name (Saman) from taking the first letter of 3 of our famill's cats - Scara, Mush (pronounced moosh), and Nathan.

Koko - female - short for Kokopelli. Mixed grey tailless manx. Although "stinky" was suggested too, as we brought her home from a barn and she really was stinky.

Amber - female. We think she's a Russian Blue. Has lovely yellow eyes, hence her name. Although we considered calling her Cinderella because she hides in the corner all the time.

Kohl - male. Don't know what kind of breed he is, he just showed up last year. He's almost pure black, hence the name.

Sedona - my parents golden retriever, Sedona's cousin and my cousins dog was named Sierra after the mountains, so we named Sedona after the red rocks/ city in arizona

When i finally move into a house i want to get a Golden puppy and name it Aurora, Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite "old time" princess movies :teeth:
my BF wanted to name it Motzarella like on Friends

so i said NO the Golden is my puppy get your own! hehehe

Let's see....
I've had a Beta fish named Icthys which is Greek for "fish".
I've had three cats...Precious (who was anything but),Rumpleteazer--named for the female half of the cat burglar pair in the musical "CATS" because she likes to steal shiny things. Keys, earrings, coins..I don't know WHAT she does with them all. When we were moving from the last apt to our house, we were doing some last minute cleaning and noticed a loose piece of carpet in one corner of the bedroom. We pulled it up and underneath was Rumple's collection. I found earrings I thought I'd lost and about $3 in change she'd stolen. We also had a cat named Buttercup after Princess Buttercup in the Princess Bride at one point. That was around the same time we adopted 2 rats, Nicodemus and Justin, named for characters from the book/movie "Secret of NIMH". :)

Sadly, Precious,Nicodemus,Justin,Icthys and Buttercup are gone from our lives. Gone, but not forgotten. I'm sure I'll see them again on Rainbow Bridge and maybe then I can explain to Icthys why DH almost boiled him one night.

My pup came with his racing name, Barts Unser, but he didn't look like a Bart or an Unser to us. My daughter decided that since we got him right before Christmas, and because he loves to run, that Dasher would be a perfect name.

As you can see, Dasher is enjoying his retirement.

We have a dog and a cat:

Murphy- he is our beagle. Was going to be Chester, but on the way to pick him up, we saw a billboard for a local company called Murphy's Jewelers and liked the name. Fits him better than Chester. My DH nicknamed him Tank because he was a bit chubby as a puppy.

Lilly- is our grey cat we adopted. We think she is part siamese, part Russian Blue. She is very pretty and a gorgeous dark gray. I named her after Lillian Disney and I call her Lilly Belle for short (that is the name of one of the steam engines at the MK). After we adopted her and named her, we got her paperwork and here she was born on December 5th, Walt's birthday! My DH calls her Fat Cat even though she is tiny and skinny (he hates cats, but she is a sweatheart, so they tolerate each other).

My childhood pets were all beagles:
Jack- my dad hunted him and didn't want to be yelling a sissy name in the woods.

Boomer- was very adventurous, would hit things at full speed, inclucing busting through the front screen door on several occassions.

Snooper- my parents still have him. He is the biggest snoop ever. Name fits him perfectly.

We also had some stray cats as a kid who hung around our house. They were Puss Cat, Fluffy, Fuzzy, Patches and Pop Tart.
