Pets at Universal Hotels

Oh, I wish that there was a hotel at Disney for our doggies. I can't/won't put them into a kennel situation. We have 4 Chihuahuas. Deuce is our 14 lbs "moose" that has epilepsy. Beanie is our 6 lb baby with a bad heart, who is the main reason that we can't do the kennel thing. Perdita is 4 lbs and has a touch of ADHD. Cinderella is our 2 lb baby that is mostly drama free.

The reason why we have no desire to board them, after a 4 day boarding in a really nice PetsHotel room for the amazing sum of $565, they all came home tired.....for Beanie and Deuce, it was too tired. Deuce was having focal seizures for 3 days after we returned home. Beanie was passing out and having seizures more easily for about 5 days after we returned home. For Beanie, when she passes out it's due to lack of oxygenated blood flow to the brain, due to the poor function of her heart. When the pass out turns into seizure activity, it could trigger a heart attack. If that happens, she is dead.....no amount of doggie CPR will be able to save her.

So, we set out on a path to find a way to stay on property, not board the dogs, and still have some amount of pixie dust. The answer for us is to pay for an RV site at FW and rent an RV from a company in Orlando, CampUSA, that rents to pet owners and will bring out the unit do all the set up and then do all the breakdown and checkout time. We still get all the usual onsite perks and the doggies get to stay with us. We just have to make arrangements to tour the parks in a different manner than usual, but to know that Beanie and Deuce will be healthier at the end of the trip than they would have been in a kennel situation is worth all of the small sacrifices.

Disney makes roughly $50 a night, the RV company makes about $250/night. So, my question to Disney is, why not make some rooms at the Mods open to pet owners?!?! I would gladly pay an upcharge up to $50 a night on a king room at a moderate and be able to keep all of the babies with us. So, my question for Disney is, would you rather make $450 on our next trip or $2900? I know how much money I would rather be making if it was me. Maggie

Well I have started my letter, and I am directing it towards Disney Grand Gathering to get our foot in the door, then hopefully they would allow it for Resort wide.

But I have already dreamed up the commercial. So picture it if you can.

Starts out with a puppy running and running. Then you see Mickey and the puppy going nuts with Mickey. Then you have the entire family come into the picture and the voice would say "Disney now welcomes your entire family"

BTW: I have a 11 week old cocker and a 11 y/o cocker and are family would be perfect for the commercial. So Disny get ahold of me. :woohoo:

We were thinking of staying at PBH in June until we read this thread. Now we won't be staying there. Our dog stays at home with the vet at Puppy Camp.

You don't HAVE to bring your pet along to stay at the Universal resorts. ;) Why would you not go to a resort because some people do? Just wondering, when it has been made very clear that many people who stay there don't even realize that it is a pet friendly hotel. I have stayed at the Universal resorts about 10 times and only once was I ever aware that there was a dog in the hotel and that was because I came face to face with it one day, not because of any noise or mess.

Exactly. We honestly never heard another dog in our wing, and there were several, some even on our floor. Most people that bring their dogs with them are conciderate of others. The only noise I heard that could be attributed to another dog was some bumping on the window of the room above us, we actually figured it was a child hitting the window until DH brought up that it could be a big Lab or something and it was it's tail hiting the window. I actually heard ten times the noise from inconciderate children and drunken adults/young adults yelling and screaming down the hallways late at night. That was the only time our dog gave any indication of barking or growling and I put a stop to that immediately.

Well I have finally gotten a responce from WDW customer relations. And actually thing sounded pretty good for the future. The gentelman that I spoke with said that they have been contacted several times about this specific issue. He said everything that he had would be forwarded onto the Hospitality Board and I would be notified of the outcome after they have met.

Thanks for keeping this alive. Please keep the news coming. And if u need to send a letter signed with our names on it let me know.

Yes there are several vacation homes in and around orlando area that allow pet. I like the site www.petswelcome.com You can even put in a route and it will give you places all along the route that are pet friendly.

No problem. They have pet floors, so if your Husband is allergic, just say that when you check it and tell them you don't want to be on a pet floor.

If the dogs bark at night, then people call the front desk, and a manager will come to the room and speak to the people.

They have dog walking areas on the sides of the hotels. These are areas that most people would not walk on. They have pooper scooper bags for people to clean up the mess.

We spent 3 nights at HRH last week and had requested pet-free rooms when booking due to allergies. I completely forgot about it when we checked in as most hotels we've stayed at, pets aren't an issue. On the 2nd morning my son was complaining of a constant headache and runny nose. We thought he was coming down with something. As we headed to breakfast on check-out day, we noticed someone walking their dog in the hallway - you know, where the halls meet in the middle - there's a circle? They walked their dog round and around. I realized only then that there must have been a dog at some point in my sons room. We were checking out that day, so I didn't mention it, I figured we'd get the customary "so sorry...". In fact, I do recall now thinking that his room smelled like a smoking room. I wonder if it was dog!
