Peter Pan Planning

We likely won't be staying until closing time, as I imagine it will be quite late and we plan to be there for RD each morning, which looks as though it will be pretty early. DL seems to be much more generous with its park hours than WDW, but the downside to that is it makes opening and closing the parks harder to do, especially with young kids. Much easier to do the turn around from a 9pm closing to a 9am opening than a midnight closing and 8am opening. However, I will keep the info about possible waits during that time in mind in case we end up having the stamina to stillbe there!

What DLRExpert said. :)

As for doing it at DW instead -- isn't the DL version different?

I don't know, as I haven't done the DL version in many years. However, I've looked at multiple comparisons of the two resorts and it's never listed as a ride that needs to be experienced at one vs. the other, so I assumed differences between the rides are likely to be minor.

It's a fast loader, but the vehicles are at a low capacity.
On average it can fit 2 to 3 people, but when there are single riders it bogs down the line.

I cannot even imagine how Stand By will be once Fastpass comes.

Is it slated to receive FP? I knew that Toy Story and Matterhorn were likely to have it by the time of our trip, but hadn't heard about PP. We would ride it for sure in that case.

If PP is open during fireworks, that's new. As far as I know, FL is always closed. You can stand near the entry to FL, but I've never seen people able to ride PP or anything else in that area from about an hour before fireworks until after they're done.

I don't remember there being much of a difference between the DL version and the WDW version (except there is a better queue at WDW, if you don't FP). I'd skip it at DL and catch it in your next WDW trip. We rarely ride it in DL because the line is always long (even during EMH) and it just isn't TDF, cute, but not a ride we are dying to do.

Yes, I agree! Must-do at WDW because of the queue if for nothing else. We like to FP it one day and RD it another so we get to see the queue without having to wait in a line. Apparently unlike DL, PP is always a walk-on for us when we go at RD at WDW, EMH or not.

I believe the only real difference is the opening scene in the bedroom, since DL updated theirs a couple years ago.

But aren't other rides the same, as in only fitting 2-3 people?

I honestly think the DL version of Peter Pan is better than the ride in Florida, London scene aside, but it is such a pain to do it. It used to be fairly easy to catch it at rope drop, but as some people have said, people have caught on to doing Pan first, and so there's really no easy way to ride it anymore.

WDW now has the better queue BY FAR. I think I enjoy DL's ride better though. WDW's Neverland does not have the star field.

I don't think PP is slated to get FP. There hasn't been any kind of announcement to that effect, certainly, and one would think that they'd have announced it when they did Matterhorn and TSMM if they were thinking about doing it for PP. They would have to re-do the entire queue to make that happen.

That's amazing! I thought Fantasyland was closed during fireworks!

I thought so, too, but last fall DH and I were all over Fantasyland before and and after the fireworks. We had just hopped off the carousel when they started, so we stopped on the side of the path to watch the 5 min show. I think Dumbo, Casey Jr, Canal boats were closed, but the carousel ran right through it. Maybe they closed the inside rides just for the show, but people were all still queued up and I didn't think the lines looked that bad. We almost hopped in the PP line, but passed on. The walk way through the castle was closed for a while. So many people were on the main st side of the castle that FL was awesome.

Doh...the post made me curious so i went to check the app to see PP current wait time (which I think is 9:45am CA time), and ride is temporarily closed.

But aren't other rides the same, as in only fitting 2-3 people?

Pinocchio and Snow White can easily seat 4+ as they have two rows of benches. Mr. Toad only has one and also gets longer lines than Pinocchio and Snow White. I doubt it's that much more popular, just less capacity. Alice has two rows too, though I think the front row may be a bit smaller than the back. Dumbo only seats 2 people per elephant, and it also has long lines. But it is a slow loader since the whole thing shuts down each cycle. Tea Party has so many cups that each fit 4+ people that it doesn't matter that the whole thing shuts down, it still has short lines most of the day as does the carousel. You could figure that a typical family with young kids on their first trip would ride every ride in Fantasyland, so popularity would be about the same, but capacity and loading times vary.

Rumor was that PP and Pirates would both be getting FP after the new app rolls out. It's just a rumor, but one that the closing of the heraldry shop helped fuel as it was speculated that could be used for queue.

We just did our second trip to DLR and hopped in line after MSEP. It was about a 35 minute wait. I'm glad we experienced it, but DW didn't think it was worth it.

We were there the first week in March and the lineups were relatively short the whole trip, so that 35 mins was tied for the longest we waited for any ride (I did a ton of FP runs back and forth between parks). The lineup may have gone down to 30 mins for a bit, but that was rare (we had 5 day hoppers). We weren't at the front of the line for our MM...by the time we scurried over to PP, it was 45 mins.

In the five days we were there, I was watching the app constantly to see if the line got shorter. It just didn't happen. The next time we go to DLR, I'm probably gonna wait till the park is a bit busier and I'm waiting to use a FP for HSM, Indy or BTMR. If I know I get to use a FP right after a longer PP lineup, I think it will make the wait a bit easier. But that's just me...

This thread is really helpful. Planning a May trip with littles and trying to decide about how to handle PPF. Sounds like rope drop is the way to go, at least 1 morning.

Do you have a stroller? It is very difficult to quickly get into the line for PP at opening if you have a stroller. Despite all the CM yelling to walk, people will run. Even if you are right up against the rope with your stroller they will pass you. Then you have to park the stroller and get the kid(s) out. Many people do not like the idea of joining a line to meet your group. But it may be a good idea to have one of you walk quickly (I don't recommend running with kids, someone may fall) with the walking children while the other parks the stroller, gets out the kid, and then joins the group in line. Good luck!

Yikes! Again, thanks for the helpful hints. We do, in fact, have strollers. Maybe we'll just skip PPF.

We've done it with a stroller. It's more difficult and you'll be in line a little later, but if you're quick you can still be on it within 15-20 minutes. Maybe don't do it during EMH if it looks too long, but try. If you have stroller age kids, they'll love the ride, so don't skip it all together. Go for it ... you can always hit Alice first instead if the line is too long. You just keep walking past PP to do Alice. Then do PP later in the day so it doesn't take up your whole EMH.

This is our general plan. We'll try for Peter Pan first, but if it's too long we'll skip and do Alice first. Current wait time for Alice at 1PM today is 50 minutes, wait for Peter Pan is 45. Of course this is Spring Break, so it's super busy.
