Peter pan at rope drop questions

Our family is on the fence with Peter pan -- love that it is a such a nostalgic ride, but of course the long waits deter us from just heading over to ride. Our thought is a couple of ways to ride without using a FP.

1. Hitting it a rope drop with the other mob of people going to it, but my concern is we will be trying to navigate the crowd with a 4 yo. I have read some crazy stories about how it is getting to FOP at rope drop. Would you say the masses heading to PPF are a manageable walking with a child or will we be pushed around by people running/speed walking. If we do this we figure getting there early might put us at a 20 minute wait, which is managable

2. One night we are staying for HEA and figured we could pop over to PPF after the fireworks, I'm not sure if this is a wise plan but thinking people might be leaving the park at that point so wait times might be better than 80-09 minutes.

or we Rope drop space mountain (which seems to have lower waits at park opening) and then FP PPF.

I guess there are many ways to tackle this but looking for some guidance -- lot of pressure put on the planner of the trip (that being me!!)

We are currently planning our second trip and on our first trip we didn't have a chance to ride PP because no one in our party wanted to wait 45+ minutes in the standby line. This time we all want to do the ride, and I would just get a FP but I think my kids would really enjoy the queue with the PP theming, so we are planning to go at rope drop. We haven't been since the new opening show at the castle, so I'm not sure what to expect with everyone already waiting in the hub together. But I recently read one of Josh's experiences doing PP at rope drop and it gave me hope that it isn't insanity. The majority of people will be headed to Mine Train, and without any running he was able to get through the ride in about 15 minutes. Here is the link to the post about RD:

From what I've read (not personal experience), it seems like getting back to Fantasyland after the fireworks may be a nightmare based on the mob scene people have described...

My opinion... do PP at Rope Drop, not after HEA. RD crowds will be a breeze compared to HEA crowds.

I don’t find RD at MK to be crazy at all, it’s usually pretty orderly. Moving the opening show to the Hub and letting people be able to walk around Main Street/the Hub early has helped tremendously with MK RD chaos.

There will be other people doing what you’re doing, of course - but it’s much more manageable, in my experience.

Have fun!

I've done both and the least stressful for me is to FP PP. Now, having said that I have rope dropped it several times. The ropedrop crowd heading there wasn't as bad as FoP, meaning people are not nearly as frantic for PP as they are for FoP (or even Seven Dwarfs). BUT I did have bad luck once rope dropping PP and it was broken down and I was stuck in the que, and had to grope my way out because I was meeting someone soon after park open. lol

I can't help with the late night scenario because I've not done that in a long time.

We did it first thing at RD on 4th of July one year. This was before the new MK opening though so not exactly apples to apples. We had no problem getting there at all. There was no huge mass of people and no one was doing a mad scramble. We stopped and got some pics with our group in front of the castle (it was our first day) then went to PP. Honestly, I wish we had been a little slower because we went through the line soo quickly we weren't able to experience all that was there. We got the jist of it of course but I wouldn't have been sad to have had to wait just a tiny bit!

I agree with @DIS_AWC ...I'm no expert but I've rope dropped Peter Pan a number of times (like last week!). Most of the people waiting at rope drop are headed to 7DMT, although some are headed for PP. I've definitely seen some "aggressive" walkers, but nothing too bad like I've read about with FOP. I was with a 7YO last week and we were in the middle of the pack and walking at a "typical" pace, and it was essentially a walk on. If you're late for rope drop, you may have a longer wait as it seems people may travel from 7D to PP.

I don't think I've done post fireworks, you might be fighting crowds but it does seem like the inflate wait times close to closing...

Yes, to add to what kj2mom said above, when rope drop works, you move through the que really fast. You can see everything, but it's a "fly by." lol

My vote would be to rope drop Peter Pan. That is our standard rope drop attraction and we have not found the crowds to be to intense. I think the MK rope drop intensity is still headed to 7DMT.

Besides, if you rope drop PP then you will get to see the whole queue. Which I feel is worth the effort.

Our two Disney trips have been in the months of April and May with lower crowds. We RD at MK. PP was our first ride. It was not usually crowded walking there and our DD was a very slow and distracted 6yr old. We pretty much walked right on PP. maybe 8 parties or less in front of us. Not bad at all and I was glad we saved our FPs for other rides.

We did RD for PP on our last 2 trips. Rode it 2x in a row. Everyone runs to 7DMT.

Same for us on our trip last November around Thanksgiving, walked right on, walked right back through the que with no wait again. Easy, and we had a 6 and 2 yo.

Besides, if you rope drop PP then you will get to see the whole queue. Which I feel is worth the effort.
Definitely-the "new" queue is one of the best queues on property.

Be sure to hang around the bedrooms until you see Tink fly!:)

We rope drop PP every time. It’s not worth a 1st three FP to us but we still like to ride it. Most of the RD crowd is heading toward 7DMT. It’s no where near as crazy as RD to FOP.

I agree you should RD PP to see the interactive queue. Your 4 year old should really enjoy it.
I don't think it will overwhelming at all.

OP here!! -- Well I think with all your great input i will put it down for a rope drop. I do love FP for saving time, but i also feel like we are missing out on some of the experience when you don't get to see what is going on in the queue.

We have rope dropped Peter Pan ever since FP+. It is one of DD's absolute favorites and 1 ride a day on FP is usually not enough for her. We are never at the front of the rope drop crowd and we don't run and we have never had an issue or had to wait more than 10 minutes. Most people are running to 7DMT. Now, do not stop for photos, or to see a character or to look at anything. The line builds fast. If you stop, by the time you get back there the line will probably be 20 minutes. We go back for castle photos after Peter Pan.
