In the Daily Telegraph weekly travel column asking celebs about their best and worst holiday experiences, Peter Davison has said his "worst holiday" was:
Florida with our two children in a Disney 'African' lodge made of concrete logs, with a couple of fake zebra and a giraffe stuck outside the window, and constant jungly-type music. The kids were bored to death and the whole operation seemed designed to screw money out of you - it was just appalling.

And I used to really quite like Peter Davison :sad2: :crazy2:

He can't have been at the Animal Kingdom Lodge then, surely? Unless the Savanna is full of audio animatronics and Peter was the only one sharp enough to notice :confused3

The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things.
Although I think it's a poor reflection on the parents if you can't amuse your children at WDW, there is pretty much something for everyone there, so I can only asume that he didn't go out of his way to match his kids interests with what is on offer.

Maybe not enough/too many passers by recognised him LOL ;)

I think people have this problem when they dont plan, you really need to plan when visiting WDW, otherwise you miss so much, i have spoken to people who have booked & they think its going to be like visiting one of our local theme parks!
The more you plan the more you get from WDW, the Brits guide & the boards are my bible's when planning a trip.
Oh & the adults should have a little imagination, yes Mickey is a man in a suit but that doesnt stop me running after him shouting Mickey i love you! - sad - no, just using my imagination & entertaining my child. I have heard how people moan about how everything is fake, but its all about using your imagination & encouraging children to aswell, & looking for the good in life, a little escapisim is what we all need from time to time. Yes they make a lot of money out of us but the place wouldnt be so awesome if they didnt have the money to put into it, just think about how much 'Wishes' must cost every single night of the year!!!
Hope Peter reads this!

eh i beg to differ on the planning. The first two times we ever went to WDW we didnt plan in advance. We just sort of made it up as we went along and we were fine. We got everything done, had a great time and never a dull moment. Sure we didnt use our time perfectly or the most effeciently but we did ok.

Sounds to me like he went there with a pre-misconception of the place and stuck to it. Like someone said before theres plenty to do there if you're willing to get out your hotel room and do it.

I just feel sorry for him,:confused3.

I am a "glass half-full" rather than "half-empty" person, and would always try and make the best out of any situation (especially on holiday!) but how anyone can not find ANYTHING good to say about a WDW holiday beggars belief.

And, as for his kids being bored to death, then I just feel nothing but pity for them. And thank God that my DD's are as ::MinnieMo Disney-mad ::MickeyMo as me!!!

He cant have gone to the parks :confused3 How can kids be bored with a pool, animals and playground ? How can he think the animals were fake ??? :rotfl2:

Going to AKL in 9 days time for our second Disney holiday. I must look out for the fake zebras since we're staying on the zebra trail :)

I just do not know how anybody could get bored. We were very busy on our last holiday and there is still so much we didn't see.

Can't wait to get back there. :teeth:

Great, that's one less family in my way at WDW. He obviously doesn't have much imagination or know the meaning of having fun - I feel quite sorry for him really. I agree with all the previous replies, but I'm not quite sure about traceycooper's remark 'yes, Mickey is a man in a suit........' - have I missed something - LOL :rotfl2:

mandymouse :earsgirl:

Due to the size of the character Mickey is more likely to be a 'women' in a suite :)

I get the feeling that some people refuse to like WDW on principle.
They feel that it is below them to admit to enjoying something that is not 'sophisticated' enough for their highbrow tastes.

Usually people are honest enough to admit that they are impressed with the slickness and professionalism of the whole operation, but occassionaly even this is too much.

In some circles it is just not the done thing to like anything to do with Disney.

And the same people probably have the same attitude towards America/Americans in general.

Ah well, they can fly off to Majorca, Greece or Turkey and enjoy (if thats the right word!) a beach/booze holiday. How you can't have fun in Disney/Orlando, especially if you're as well off as Mr Davidson, then there's something wrong!

Mickey is not a man in a suit as males are to tall its always a woman inside as there body build is neter shaped for mickey

My family have always been devoted to Disney, and we have taken the children to Florida ever since they were very tiny. They are all adults now, however they still choose to come with us along with their partners, so it is fantastic that we can still enjoy holidays spent together.
My sister and her husband on the other hand feel that Disney is beneath them, and they are only interested in taking their young children on skiing holidays or somewhere that they themselves would wish to visit with a cultural emphasis.
Recently I looked after their children for a few days and I took them to Disneyland Paris. Their faces were an absolute picture, full of awe and wonder. They were completely enchanted. To me my sister, and husband have missed a very special moment, and it actually made me feel sad for them that their ideals get in the way of pure enjoyment, and quality family time.
I wonder whether they will still be holidaying together when their children are 23 years, and 21 years respectively!

I absolutely agree that everyone has different tastes and it would be a shame if we all liked the same things.

The thing that amazed me was that they could have been so "bored" at WDW. Unless no-one told them the hotel wasn't the theme park? If it was AKL they were in (and I suppose it is made of concrete logs, however authentic they may look to me  ), maybe they were confusing it with Animal Kingdom, the theme park!

Carolyn, you sound as though you have the same 'problem' as us, wondering whether the next trip with the children will be their last with mum and dad :).

Maybe he stayed at the Sheraton Safari Hotel?

Has anyone stayed there?

Does it have fake zebras?
