I'm burning this onto cd right now, as a possible listen on our WDW trip. I haven't read or listened to the book yet, just read the synopsis which seems cool.

Has anyone listened to/read this one? I have 2 boys, 8 and 10, and they have listened to things like Dragon Rider (Cornelia Funke) and The Secret History of Tom Trueheart (Ian Beck) and liked them. But the dramatized Redwall was really way too much for them, and I was not happy with the plot lines in the Ink___ books, so I haven't downloaded them for the boys.

Do you think Peter will be ok for them?

I've also just burned 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days, so I know they'll have good things to listen to; just wondering about the other one.

GREAT BOOK!

There is another, Kingdom Keepers, Ridley Pearson, that I would hold off on...the ages maybe...

Have a great Listen! :thumbsup2

DH and I have read Peter and the Starcatchers series (3 in all) and they are great! My DS (11) has it on his list to read. They are great! There is also a follow-up series to them called the "Neverland" Series, which are also good, much easier to read as well.

We also love the Kingdom Keepers series by the same author.

All great books!

Good deal. :) We'll go ahead and try it out; we've got 12 + hrs in the car each way...

We have read the first two in this series in school (homeschool) and we love them!

My DD (almost 10) started reading these books a couple of years ago. She loves them! She reads and re-reads them. :thumbsup2

My DD just turned ten last week and read Peter and the Starcatchers about three years ago, I think. She has read all three of the Peter books now and only found Peter and the Secret of Rundoon a bit creepy. She has also read Kingdom Keepers 1 and 2 and thought they were scarier, but she loved them. She didn't like Redwall, but loved Inkheart and Inkspell (she did think they were scarier than the Peter books).

I read all the Peter books before DD read them, and they are not particularly graphic or scary. Peter and the Starcatchers is the tamest of the three - the last two have a kind of creepy villain that was a bit scary to DD when she would read before bedtime.

Sounds like a good idea- did you download it from itunes?
I am trying to check my counties libraries but their search engine is down.
I'd love to put it on our MP3 players for the trip.

My 9-year old loves the Peter and the Starcatchers series and it's perfect for your boys. I read it to her at night but we also have the Jim Dale (I *love* him!!) CDs. She also liked the book "Escape from the Carnivale: A Never Land Book" by the same authors. It's for grades 3-6 and, while she is not a great reader, she could read it herself. You need to read Peter and the Starcatchers first to understand the characters and the setting.

We belong to Audible.com ($7.49 first 3 mos, $14.95 monthly thereafter) and these are books I downloaded with the last of my credits. If you belong, you get one free book per month (watch out - a "credit" is $14.95+tax, and many of the kids books are around $10) and 30% of their already reduced prices. It's a great deal if you travel a lot or have a long commute. I outright purchased less expensive books (Bunnicula, Judy Moody, etc) and used my credits for things like Peter and the Starcatchers (over $20).

We lived in Europe for 2 yrs, and it took an hour to get to the American School the boys attended. Books on cd is how I kept our collective sanity. Now I use them for road trips and rainy days.

At that age, we loved Hank the Cowdog and The Hardy Boys books on tape. We got most of them from our local library.

I'm 22 and I love these books! These are as much for adults as they are for kids. (Perfect for a car trip!) They are quite funny and well-written. My husband doesn't read much but read this series back-to-front. I used to teach elementary school and would also recommend the Inkheart series and the Fablehaven series. Boys especially just love those.

OT- What American School did your kids to go? I grew up in Brussels and went to ISB

Great Books! The Audio is read by Jim Dale who did all the Harry Potter stories. Good Stuff!

I listened to it on CD as well and I think your children (because they are still young) will probably like it. It is full of action and well-written, I think.

HOWEVER, I have to say I was very surprised that this is supposed to be a kind of continuation of Peter's story. The Peter in these stories is so markedly different from J.M. Barrie's as to be almost unrecognizable. This Peter has none of the "wild" quality that made the original so charming and sweet. This is one of those rare stories Disney could hardly do justice to, in print or film. If you haven't already, I highly suggest grabbing a copy of J.M. Barrie's Peter and Wendy (usually called Peter Pan) OR Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (Barrie's prequel to Peter and Wendy). I think you'll be glad you did:goodvibes
