Pete in the Orlando Sentinel!!

I read this article and thought it was great. The comments at the end I felt were uncalled for and not true at all. I am an African-American woman and have felt nothing but love from the Disboards. When I listen to the podcast I do not hear them saying derogatory remarks about different races. They might make silly jokes sometimes, but they do not target any specific race and I understand that they are jokes. I can honestly say that the team is very nice and respect everyone. Kevin has been nothing but helpful when it comes to helping me with the ABD trip in July. I know how racism sounds (I do live in the south) and the podcast team does not exhibit these characteristics. Those comments at the end are made by people who have had 1 negative experience and have decided to take their anger out on everyone else. Sorry this is so long, but I get very angry when I hear people calling others racist when they are not. If I believed Pete was racist, I would not do business with him. There are many more black (African-American) individuals on the boards who probably feel the same way I do. All I can say is keep up the great work Pete and the rest of the Podcast team.

Great article - I enjoyed reading it. I've only recently got into the DIS unplugged podcasts and now can't get enough of them!
I don't know what you guys put in it, but I have to keep coming back for more :goodvibes
I found the "introductory" podcast today, and am happy I now know who's who! And so from reading this article, it was nice to be able to put a face to Pete! That man is like a god ;) :worship:
:thumbsup2

Whoa, when's the magazine spread coming, Pete? :) Hehehe. Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I'm not surprised to hear how many podcast listeners there are. Pete and company do one heck of a great job.

i always have the greatest of respect for self made people because the only one kicking them in the *** to get it done is themselves:thumbsup2.............................................................................................................even if they do call me a Troll;)

I was wondering how much the interest of Harry Potter at Universal had on giving Dreams Unlimited possibly it's best year to date. We can probably rule out interest in Disney this year causing an uptick, unless Disney is giving such massive discounts to travel agents that it could have a huge effect on bottom line, so my best bets would be more people getting interested in cruises or Universal. And I don't mean whole vacations based around Harry Potter, but that being enough to put people "on the fence" a reason to come to Orlando.

And not that he has any obligation to provide the info, but I'd be fascinated to know if the percentage of clients from Europe (especially the UK) have gone significantly up since the announcement of Harry Potter's impending opening.

I had originally been interested in going this fall to see the Wizarding World AND take a trip to Disney. However, they make it so easy to not leave the world - Magical Express as one more enticement to fly rather than drive (and really be 'stranded' in the world) as well as the free dining. What started out as a 5 day Disney and 3 day Orlando trip has turned into 8 nights at a moderate resort - gosh darn they're good!

First the newspaper article, then the spot on the local television new -- Next stop HOLLYWOOD !! Go Pete ! :woohoo:

I'd like to say something here concerning our "anti-dis" friends that commented on that story and are still commenting on their "other" site. Wouldn't it be hilarious to find out that Pete created a blog just to bash himself and the podcast crew in order to "keep his enemies close"?? I just think that would be briliant.

So after I read the comments on the sentinal page, I went to this other blog and read a bunch of the entries there. WOW, I can say that these folks are definately uneducated, every other word in their entries is a swear, usually the F word. The ramblings and rants they post dont hold a candle to Pete's.

It's the same old complaints over and over again calling Pete a racist.. what a bunch of morons. A naturalization ceremony, "especially held in Orlando" contains many different races, which race is he suspected of being biggoted against? I think we can all agree that the conversation was edgy, but racist? cmon. nit pickers!

Pete's complaints about gay days isnt homophobic either. Thats like saying someone that doesnt like St. Patrick day hates the Irish. I love the Irish, I just hate how crowded the damn bar is on St Patty's day.

Just purely uneducated drivel with tons of jealousy, obviously begun by a former dis'er that got booted for beeing an idiot on the boards and now wants revenge, or maybe it's the chef from Coral Reef and he's upset over the "sad little crab cake" comment. Whatever it is, it's worthless to explore, boring taudry swearing rants and insults. They should be ashamed, and the sentinal should remove all of their hateful insults as well.

Just my opinion!!

Great article. How unfortunate, however, that there are morons out there who felt the need to post really negative comments. If you don't like the DIS or the podcast, that's fine. Go elsewhere, but don't trash it. What purpose does that serve?:sad2:

Miserable unhappy people want everyone around them to be miserable and unhappy.

While I agree that it was probably meant as a joke the podcast mentioned in those comments did in fact take place and many people did speak out about it and did feel offended by it. Sometimes even jokes go too far and people get hurt by them. Does it make them racist? Maybe/maybe not. Unless you know someone personally it is hard to say. We all say and do things that we later wish we hadn't. Or where we ask ourselves what to heck was I thinking. At the very least it was insensitive.

That is true. Sometimes jokes can go too far and I hope that an apology was issued after they learned that what was said was insensitive. It is hard to know what is going on in someone's head, but my main issue was with the comments to the article. That is fine to have your opinion about someone, but there is no need to be ugly about it. Say what you have to say, but keep it mature. There was an immaturity to the comments which was uncalled for. But all I can say is those people are grown (maybe) and they need to act like mature adults.

Eh, I listen to shows that go way farther in their humor every day. I've also seen comics that have waaaay darker senses of humor than anything on that original podcast. I don't get why anyone is ever offended by humor but I guess some people live to be offended.

I personally just took it the way I thought it was intended which was as a joke. However I can see why some were offended by it. It is different when you are the target of a joke vs. just a listener/participant of it. And yes some comics definately do push it alot further. That does not mean that they are not insensitive or wrong for doing it. When you are in the public in any format you have to be careful what you say.

To answer your statement about why anyone ever gets offended by humor: Some humor is not met to be funny but to offend. Some people get their laughs from hurting others as well.

If I remember correctly the original podcast was edited but than they did a re-release of the whole thing. I might be mistaken though as I did not listen to the podcast until after the original had taken place. I believe the re-release was after Bob passed but I may be mistaken on that.

I agree. But when you are talking about the internet you never know who is behind the keyboard. Perhaps they sound immature because they are only teenagers or perhaps even younger. Perhaps they have problems and have not fully matured. Not making excuses just stating you never know who is doing the typing. The internet makes it easier to say things and to act in ways that you never would in "real" life. In some cases the internet brings out the worst in people.

If it is in fact a fully mature adult doing the typing I agree you can let someone know that you do not like them or agree with them in a better way.

This was a nice surprise with my morning coffee, the Orlando Sentinel has a short interview with our own Pete Werner!!!

So, Pete-did they quote you accurately??

wow! Great article!! thanks for sharing the link!! :thumbsup2

by the way, if the size of the crowds in the parks this week is any indication, then the economy is definitely on the rebound. The parks have been heaving!! Especially the Magic Kingdom in the evenings for the parade and the fireworks    .... more reminiscent of the 4th of July or Christmas to me than just June!!!

very good news for Disney, Dreams and us really....it can only be a good thing if the economy is doing better!!

I completely agree with you! :goodvibes
