I for one am done with the threads about it. No matter what you say or what thoughts you may be feeling it turns into a HUGE political fight.
The good threads, you know the ones we used to have when the community board was a place we could just hang out at, just get buried. I'm tired of coming here and having my blood pressure raised. Yes, I know that I could stay away but I think I should be able to make that decision on my own and not be forced out.
There used to be (and still are somewhere) some good threads. I liked coming here and participating in child rearing questions or vents about in-laws or hearing who was pregnant or just had their babies. I miss that. I think there are many who would agree with me.
Please...

Why? This a current event. Of course people are going to discuss it and argue about it. :confused3

But do we need so many threads that all say the same thing over and over and over.

I agree, a Katrina board is a good idea.
Of course people want to discuss it, that's fine, but do we need so many threads?

Come have a drink with us in the Lush Lounge. :goodvibes We've been hiding out in there.

I was thinking the same Cathy but this place is what it is. Right now I think this is a good place for people to express themselves. I'm just hoping it helps them to destress. It might not help the people that read it. I make myself think twice before I put someone on ignore these days. If you need a break join one of the "clique" (in no means an insult, just a lack of a better word{suggestions of a better one welcome}) threads. Great people in those threads and you can find some good laughs there.

I just took a quick look and on the first page out of around 50 threads, approximately 35 have nothing to to with Hurricane Katrina..I even included any threads that might be considered the least bit political in the 15 or so threads that are about Katrina.

Of those 15, quite a few of them are very postive..fund raising etc.

I'll never understand why people can't let people post whatever threads they want and just skip what you aren't interested in.

Hurricane Katrina is a huge story, many of us have family located in the affected areas and I, for one, don't want to have to move from board to board to skim the threads.

Read what you like, skip the rest. Seems simple to me.

Exactly. This is our living room, and this is what most people are talking and thinking about right now.

There are still lots of "fluff" threads, maybe this is a good time to subscribe to a few of them. :)

Talk about Katrina will be huge for a long time to come, but I think you'll start to see more normal conversation start back up soon. I think most of us are still shell-shocked. But as soon as some sense of order and control returns, I think you'll see people start to laugh and to carry on with normal life again.

:)

Then perhaps you should take your own advice and skip this thread.

The OP is suggesting that they are somehow being "forced" off of this board.. The OP is not.. The OP has a choice - pass by those threads or open them and read them..

It's an ugly time in this country right now.. Some people can't handle the ugliness - others don't want to face reality.. That's fine - however, they should not attempt to dictate what others may or may not discuss..

I suppose the people stranded in new Orleans feel pretty sick of their situation as well. Scroll on by if you've had enough of their plight.

I am quite clear on what the OP is suggesting.
We ALL have a choice, the thread title clearly states the subject of the post. Peachgirl could have ignored this thread just as easily as the OP can ignore Katrina related threads...no?

Why? My advice was to skip a thread if you weren't interested in reading it.

I was interested in the thread, so I read it.

Perhaps you should let me decide what threads I should read.
