This thread is dedicated to the horrid excuse for an organization, People for the 'ethical' treatment of animals (at least that's my opinion of them). Mainly I just want to know people's opinions about these guys.

For those of you who don't know what PeTA is, it's a group of of crazy vegan/vegetarian animal rights extremists. They campaign against pretty random organizations that they don't like. Here are their current crazy campaigns:

Mars Candy Kills because Mars funds 'deadly' experiments on guinea pigs.
Bloody Burberry because they use fur in some of their products. Now, I'm against fur, but I looked at the Burberry website and they have a whopping total of two items with fur on them (fur trimmed coats).
Petsmart Cruelty because they did an undercover investigation and found that Petsmart stores that sell pets don't give their hamsters and parakeets veterinary care and that a lot of hamsters died of wet tail (an extremely common disease in hamsters).
and Kentucky Fried Cruelty, because of their bloody buckets of doom.

On their website they make it seem like all these companies are just extremely evil. What's even sadder is that they aim these stupid campaigns at animal loving young people. They even have an area of their site aimed at elementary school kids, and one of the things in it says 'Friends don't chain friends' about how it's mean to let your dog out on a chain.

Not to mention, they're hypocrites. They are totally against animal testing even for medicine, and against using animal products in anything. But yet, one of their Vice Presidents uses a medicine that was tested on dogs and contains animal products (I think it's pigs blood, but I'm not sure about that).

They're against the no-kill act in animal shelters and they think that the whole idea of pets is cruel. Oh yeah, and zoos are also works of evil.

I could type all day listing reasons why PeTA is a stupid organization. But now, what are your opinions?

Kentucky Fried Cruelty, because of their bloody buckets of doom.

:rotfl: Sorry, just had to let my laugh out. That's just ridiculous sounding.

Yes, it is a stupid organization. But I do agree with them on one thing, dogs shouldn't be kept on chains for very long. JMO.

In general, I think they are extremely ridiculous. Not wearing fur, eating meat, etc. is a PERSONAL choice and they try to shove that down people's throats. They yell at celebrities who wear fur...what good does that do? I don't eat meat, mostly because it grosses me out and I feel it's healthier not to but I do not think it is right to tell other people what to do, which is exactly what PETA does.

Yeah, but the way they portray it to little kids, it makes the little kids think that it's mean to let their dogs out on a chain for any period of time.

BTW, I think it's mean to leave dogs out on chains for extended periods of time too. But, like an hour while you run to the store is fine.

The Petsmart thing..
Tons of big chain pet stores don't provide veterinary care beforehand at all. Most of the dogs in pet stores are sick, their fur is matted, and they're sleeping in corn chips that have their pee and stuff in.
It's pretty gross.

So why don't they just boycott every pet store in the US?

PETA takes things too far.

It's the same thing as an organization trying to stuff religion down peoples throats. And while doing so they result to physical violence and such.

Exactly.

I have absolutly no problem with vegetarians/vegans, as long as they don't make me feel like I'm inferior/stupid because of my decision to eat meat. And sadly, the only two vegetarians I know IRL are PeTA members. PeTA gives vegans and vegetarians bad names.

Yes. I buy leather purses even though I don't eat meat. PeTA is a pretty stupid "organization." And Jenny is right, it is like religious groups shoving their beliefs down other peoples throats.

I think that animal cruelty is horrible and cruel and wrong.
But PeTA takes it too far.
Being a vegetarian and wearing fur (I am not a vegetarian, I don't wear fur) is a personal choice.
You shouldn't try and shove it down someones throat.
If you believe in something, fine. But don't try and make everyone else believe the same thing that you believe. That's not right.

That's how I am.
And I think PETA is really stupid.
They take things way to far.
Boycotting in the nude...?
What could that possibly help?

PETA is famous in the animal care community for their terrorism and promotion of other forms of terrorism. They are violent people who brainwash their members and rely on unsuspecting celebrities to do a lot of their advertising.

PETA would rather kill animals than help them find proper homes.

They protest in front of LA Zoo almost every day. I understand how they can be against captive wild animals, but zoos conserve and protect many species who are dying out due to human impact.
If PETA truly cared about animals, they would work toward prevention of habitat loss and promote no-kill shelters and spay/neuter clinics.

Since you all seem to already realize that PETA is corrupt, I can recommend joining groups like SPCA, WWF, and Humane Society. Look for groups promoting animal welfare over animal rights (which is what PETA demonstrates).

Wth is that?

I dunno if you've seen it, but PeTA likes to hand out these little pamphlets to little kids called 'Your Daddy KILLS Animals!' With a picture of a guy stabbing a fish, and talking about how evil fishing is.

So this is just making fun of those things, because it has a picture of PeTA's president putting a dog down.

Yes, I agree. The SPCA, WWF, and the Humane Society are all wonderful groups and I've donated cat food and litter to my local humane society before =) .

So this chick, Ingrid, kills animals instead of finding homes for them? Wow.

to me, this is what PETA stands for:

P- People (for the)
E- Eating (of)
T- Tasty
A- Animals.

I don't like PETA (obviously), but I do love the WWF. They're like...my heroes. And they make really comfy shirts that are supre eco-friendly.

Yeah, a lot of animals they get that are perfectly adoptable they don't even attempt to find homes for, they just put them down immediatly. I've researched it and it's because PETA thinks that having pets is wrong.

My civics teacher has a funny apron that says

PETA
People Eat Tasty Animals

(It has fake blood stains on it)
