I need suggestions on a pet stain remover for carpet for both new & older stains. I am tired of buying products that don't work. What stain removers or home remedies have you used that worked for you.

It was the cheap stuff they carried at my local Petco called The Pet Spotter. It removed the stains very effectively.

I use Simple Solution, available at Petco. You need to get down to the padding. Warren Eckstien on Pet Talk recommends it as well. It really does work. Not only on pet stains but other organic stains too.

OH - I am interested in hearing answers to this as well - also - pet smells - any help with those?

I use Bissell Tough Stain precleaner - it's actually supposed to be used on stains before you use a rug shampooer - but I use it all the time. It can usually be found by the rug shampooer supplies.

Any carpet stain - Prosolve spray
Pet odor (i use it in the litter box) - Nature's Miracle

For years, we've used a mixture of white vinegar and water (vinegar kills the enzymes...that's what pets can smell that make them go back to the same spot again) and then just a regular carpet cleaner. Many products claim to remove the odor but they really only mask it (to the human nose, that is) and the pet can still smell the urine or feces in that spot. You must kill the enzymes and then remove the stain!

Way back when we took our dogs to classes, the instructor would have us bring a small spray bottle to class in case our dog had to go potty during class (in a large grassy yard). After scooping the poop or blotting, we would spray the spot and that would keep all the other dogs in the class (especially the males) from wanting to come over and "mark" on top of it.

We use Natures Miracle or Simple Solution. Both are enzyme cleaners so they destroy the pet odors. They also work on blood... (Ask me how I know this... Ask my husband if it is a good idea to trim dog nails in THE LIVING ROOM?!?!?!?) Not a good idea, especially if you trim just a wee bit too far and you don't have the styptic powder right there!

For stains, I've used resolve very well.

For smells, you have to use an enzymatic cleaner (which won't necessarily work on stains).

If it's really bad, chances are your best bet is a professional cleaner since they have access to "commercial" grade stuff (which is better than the stuff you can buy at the store).

We use Nature's Miracle and it works great.

I keep a spray bottle of vinegar water, not sure the ratio. If a wet stain, I spritz after blotting up as much as I can. If solid, pick up and spray the affected area. It controls the odor, but doubt if it does anything for stains under the carpet/padding.

the stuff that came with the dyson vacuum really works better than anything else, gets old stains out even, I was suprised how well it worked, gets hope the cockatoo's mess right out (the spray kind not the powder never tried that)

Hope is semi potty trained but mistakes happen:)
