Has anyone used www.petfinder.com? I just got a message from a moderator that I shouldn't have a link to this website in my signature, because I was somehow soliciting charitable donations. I honestly cannot even find a link on their page that asks for donations. :rolleyes1

Just wondering why having a link to a page that lists photos of dogs & cats available for adoption from some rescue groups, some private citizens, and some animal control offices, would be considered soliciting donations.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

I got my "girls" through Petfinder. I recommend them often to folks looking to adopt.

Perhaps you should PM the moderator and let the moderator know petfinder is a clearinghouse for animal control and animal rescue groups and doesn't solicit donations on its website? It is a website to search for adoptable pets. Perhaps the moderator saw an advertisement for the rescuesite.com and thought that solicitation was actually petfinder's?

I think you have to do whatever the mods ask you but ... I would also get a "second opinion" in your case. I would ask the others mods on the board that the mod works on for their opinion. People make mistakes ... even mods.

Oh my, what a beautiful, beautiful dog!

We are not ready to get a new dog after losing our beloved 14 1/2 year old baby last week, but I still spent all weekend looking at the photos on http://www.petfinder.com and crying my eyes out over all those sweet animals without homes. I nver noticed any solicitations for donations.

I didn't think petfinder.com asked for donations since each group that made listings were individual places. I'm sure petfinder makes their money from those groups in exchange for posting their info.

I would PM another moderator or a webmaster and ask for clarification. I think petfinder is one of the best things to happen to unwanted animals and I can't imagine why encouraging people to save a life can be viewed as anything bad... but what do I know? ;)

I don't have the website in my signature but have directed people there often. Hopefully this is something that would be allowed to be in a signature, I'd ask for clarification from a webmaster.

Thank you! I looked at her picture for weeks before contacting a friend who volunteered at the shelter (which was about an hour away) and we took our dog and kids down to meet her. She is hyper and was not housebroken, but we have mostly cured the latter and are working on getting her to self-calm and to not body check us all when she comes in...

Despite all her "issues", I cannot imagine why anyone would have tied her to a fence in the middle of the night during a 90+ degree heat wave. Breaks our hearts, esp. since she seems to never have been in a house and just craves love and attention. She has the oddest fears, such as blacktop... she will not cross blacktop. I have to carry her from the car to the training center if I am unable to get a spot to park next to the concrete walkway, lol. She also HATES when other dogs bark and will jump them to make them stop... so much fun in training class, that is, lol. But she is quick as a whip and by the end of class, she was the only one doing down-stays without breaking. She is just slightly demented... like the rest of us in this house! Hehe.

Anyhow... back on topic... I would ask them to please reconsider, since it is NOT a charity, just a way for people to find pets in need of homes.

I have seen that in other signatures, I don't get what the conncection is between Petfinder and asking for donations.
I would be curious to know. Maybe they made a mistake.

We got one of our cats from petfinder. It was a great experience!
