I have an unusual question about pets and FW. I know all about the loops that allow pets...that pets can not be unattended at a campsite....$3.00 additional fee per day...but this is a bit different. I am not talking about a dog or even a cat. If anyone from this board also stops by the community board, they are aware of who Thumper is. ::yes:: For those who don't, here's a quick run down. Thumper is a cottontail rabbit (those little brown wild ones you see in your yard). We found a baby bunny last May who's mommy had abandoned her. Not only was she the runt, but she is a 'special needs' bunny...she has trouble supporting her head all the time and her front right paw seems to be a bit deformed and it is weak. We have hand raised her since then and she is a part of the family. She is very skiddish around strangers. I guess you could say she is spoiled as she gets her box cleaned out daily. Hence, my problem. :eek: Do you think, IF we are able to get her to tolerate a car ride, it would be any problems if we took her into FW with us?? She would never leave the trailer as even when she is home, she is terrified of being outside!

I never would of imagined when I took that poor little bunny into my home last May, that this would of been an issue almost a year later!! Having someone take care of the cat is easy....this one takes a bit more thought! :teeth:

Well, I'm sure if you asked Disney they would be more than happy to put you in a pet loop and charge you the extra 5 bucks nightly. However, if it were me I'd take Thumper along and not mention it. I doubt she'd jump up on the dash while you are gone and give it away!

I plan to get her used to living (at least for awhile!!:teeth: ) in one of those medium size pet carriers. ::yes:: Like I said, she is skiddish and needs some time to adjust to new things!! You should of seen how upset she got when she outgrew the shoe box she lived in when she was teeny! She got SO upset in the big box that I had to place the shoe box inside the bigger box so she could get used to her new surroundings!! :rolleyes: I'd probably leave her cage in the bathroom in the camper. Little more private for her.

You know, I think I am spending more time worrying about this little furbaby is going to react on her first trip to Disney than I did worrying how my kids would react to meeting the characters when they were toddlers!! :earseek:

Dear Always Quiet;

I agree with Campingcorgi, I would take Thumper along and wouldn't even bother mentioning her. I seriously doubt that they would consider a small caged animal as something that would qualify for the pet loop. That would mean that if someone took their pet bird that they should also be in the pet section and subject to the $5 daily fee. I believe that the pet section restrictions only apply to dogs -- not even sure that inside cats would apply.

Have a good trip and take your pet with you. ENJOY:bounce: :hyper: :hyper:

never been there yet going in april, debating on bringing our dog but mostly concerned with her barking when we go to the beach or the fire at night, so we probably will leave her with grandma.

you on the other hand have no such concerns, as long as you can control the temp in the trailer there is no need to even board thumper when you are at the parks, as others said don't even bring it up, the employees have a lot of other concerns than a little, quiet, shy bunny.

i would think the reason for limiting the dogs to certain locations and charging more is so if someone doesn't want any dogs around them they can choose that option, i would think any one next to you would never know thumper was there.

I don't even think boarding Thumper would be an option. :earseek: For one thing, she is so timid, I think just being in a unfamiliar area with lots of other animals would be too much for her to handle. She'd probably have a nervous breakdown!! Second, Thumper is NOT a typical domesticated rabbit.....I can't even get a vet to look at her since she is classified as a "wild" animal!! Don't think they would appreciate this!!:rolleyes:

I would check about animal laws in any of the states you would be driving through. In some states it is illegal to own "wild" animals, domesticated or not. What is the status of the animal shelter there in Lower Bucks County? Is it still near Lahaska? I would call them and see if there are any volunteers who could "bunnysit" while you vacation. Good Luck.

It's about 20 min away from Lahaska. Don't know if that would work either. When we first found Thumper, I called the local wildlife rescue....left a message...no return call....called a second time....still no return call (Thumper would fit in the palm of my hand she was so tiny when we first got her). After finally getting her to eat and her accepting me as mom (she wouldn't take formula from anyone in the house BUT me!) the shelter called me back, after TWO WEEKS! They gave me a load of grief...telling me I had no right to keep her....I was breaking the law and could face fines....I didn't know what I was doing....They read me the riot act. I simply told them that maybe they should of returned my call immediately. Her very life was in the balance and I was not about to hand her over to someone new. I knew they weren't equipped to feed her round the clock (every 4 hours - day and night). She survived with no thanks to the people who are susposed to do this for a living. :mad:

Sorry for getting off topic...this is a sore spot with me....ANYWAY....rabbit sitting from an outsider is not an option!! :earseek:

PS - If you want to 'see' who Thumper is, I just posted a new photo of her on the community board! :hyper: (not that I'm a proud mom or anything!! ;) )
