Pet Personality Quirks

We had a cat named Zack who was super skinny...but he was always the first one to hit the food dishes after they were filled. He ate all the time but was naturally very thin and wiry. I used to call him our bulemi-cat, and said that one of these days we'd walk in unannounced and we'd catch him purging. :rotfl:

Then there's Simba. He acts all tough and he's the leader if the kitty tribe (we have 3, used to be 4)...but whenever he hears someone's voice in our house that is not me, DH or DS, Simba runs and hides in the basement for hours. Lion King my butt.

And my dog Charlie was a Maltese with a nervous bladder. When my XH used to come from from work Charlie would stand on his hind legs to greet him, and would tinkle all over XH's pants (smart dog). :rolleyes1

we had a dog like your Charlie in High School. She seemed to hate English people (we lived in England on an AF base) and when she had puppies we had to give some of them away to english people and she would sit and pee near their shoes.

The dog and the cat also seemed to have a pact.....no matter where the bread was the cat would get to it so the dog could eat it. Otherwise they only tolerated each other.

My cat Tuffy loves to lick plastic bags, especially the thick kind like the Disney World ones. I always make sure I have plenty from my WDW vacations. She also "talks" to her water dish, maybe she sees her reflection?

My Zoey has the "Berner Bump" thing going big time. She will walk directly in front of me, causing us to bump into each other. She won't get out of the way, it's like she likes to have any contact, even if it's me falling on top of her. She sidles up next to me and leans against me. I think this is a common thing for this breed, although I have no idea why it has evolved.

Your 'Berner Bump' made me think of this - my Bouvier does the same thing, he is always leaning into me when I walk him. He walks behind me though, not in front. He has to walk right on top of my heels, and he drools when he is hot so I end up with wet heels all the time  Are Bernese Mtn Dogs cattle drovers, like Bouviers are? I wonder if that explains it?

our basset hound dances in circles...literally, spins around and around...whenever he sees us holding food. we call it...wait for it...wait for it...the circle dance. the crazy dog thinks anything you have in your hand is food and it's all for him. he is also deathly afraid of fireworks and howls for hours after hearing a firecracker. he also prefers his water with ice in it, and he has a thing for random pieces of wood-sticks, limbs, bits of lumber-he will chew on them until he gets tired, then he buries them. he buries almost everything except dog biscuits. i call it all "his treasures" and tease DH whenever he accidentally digs a "treasure" up out of the garden. i'm telling y'all, that dog just isn't right, but we love him dearly.

All 3 of ours have some weird quirks! Auggie, the 8 year old baby girl who was a rescue, will let the cat, Galaxy, eat some of her food before she starts to eat. :confused3 I actually had to get Galaxy after the stray cat I had taken in had died after having him for 6 months. Auggie was so depressed and mourning the loss of him. Honestly I didn't know dogs would mourn like that. And at first they fought like cats & dogs.

Galaxy has to lick my foot when I get out of the shower. If he doesn't get to lick my foot he has to get on the sink and lick my shoulder when I sit down. Strange kitty!

Achilles, well he is just always strange. But he's our other baby boy. If we put a plant in a pot on the porch he has to dig it up.

Oh, Auggie also likes to catch bumble bees. She doesn't eat them or kill them, she just likes to jump up and catch them. She makes this chomping sound.

Queenie, tabby cat and mother of the other two but she had an operation and forgot them, I think she was born grumpy plays with balls by sitting on them its funny she looks like she is hatching an egg.
Tippy little black cat with a tiny white tip on her tail, kleptomaniac with a preference for underwear :lmao:
Socks a black and white cat bigger than the other two but totally bossed about by them, he is so neurotic and acts like you are going to pull his tail out but will stick his head in the dogs mouth!
Lucy rough collie sweet natured dog who tells tails on the cats, if they are misbehaving just shout and she will chase them from what they are doing, saves a lot of effort.
When I was a kid we used to have a Pyrenean Mountain Dog who was used as a stud dog, but wasn't too fussy which end was which. He was very protective of children to the point we had to ask a man to please stop tossing his child in the air because he thought the child was distressed and was on the verge of having a go at dad. We also had a collie called Lassie (my sister called her that) who got out one night and stole not only some poor cats dinner but also the dinner bowl!!!!!!!!!!!

Our dog has to put our son to sleep every night. He doesn't sleep all night in his bed. He just lays down with him until my son dozes off. Then he comes downstairs to report that he's asleep.

MY dog Shadow shep/lab(rest his soul) loved hamburgers from McDonalds. When he first started eating them (they were purchased by my MOM) they came with pickles. Shadow soon learned to take off the top, take off the pickle put the top back on and then eat them...soon my Mom just ordered them without the pickles but Shadow always took off the top to check.

HE used to LOVE when I washed my hair and waited till I put the towel on the floor so he could sniff it for about 5 minutes. He was not pushy about food unless one was eating lobster...then he would shove his nose under my arm and speak.

He used to use me as an interpreter. If he wanted something he would come and "talk' to me and then look at the person for whom the message was meant. For example, when he wanted to go out he was come to me make his sounds (talk) and then look expectantly at my husband. While I would say, "JJ, Shadow needs to go out".

When I was in the WDW College Program YEARS and YEARS ago, I missed my dog terribly. We had never been apart for so long! Before I left for college, I taught her to push the speaker button on the phone so that when I called and was leaving a message (the phone had a built in answering machine) she could push the button and we could "talk."

I'd cry hearing her howling when she heard my voice. :sad1:

My mom always knew when I'd called her because she would be totally depressed when mom got home from work.

She was the best_dog_ever! So incredibly smart. I guess in her depression while I was gone, she decided to enjoy a night "on the town." One day my mom called and left me an urgent message. She said my dog had been diagnosed with massive tumors in her belly. I was devestated and made plans to leave the program and come home right away. Good thing I hadn't turned in my notice a few hours later when mom called to tell me that there were exactly 7 "tumors" and they were being born in the middle of my bed!! Yeah, our local vet was pretty ... um... well, "if you can't say something nice...."

Yep, the puppies were named Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Doc, Happy, Bashful and Grumpy. :thumbsup2 Ironic that all of their names "fit!"

So I didn't leave the program but I did fly home to visit my new grandpuppies!! :cool1:

My best_dog_ever lived to the age of 16 and was there when I got married and when I brought DD home from the hospital. I miss her every day, still.

Awww, this was so sweet! Now I need a tissue, lol.

That's a great story. :goodvibes What kind of dog was she? And oh...our vet here keeps referring to my female cat as "he"... :rolleyes1

My dog Leo was full of quirks. He loved bread and when he heard a bag of bread being opened he came running down from his rug and would sit down in front you of waiting for a slice. On friday nights he would sit next to my Dad as he did his paperwork and waited and gave him puppy dog eyes. My dad would give in sometimes and say ok which meant they were heading to the mountains. As soon as the door opened Leo would sit in front of the back of the car and wait... to petrified to move and risk being left behind. The cutest thing he did was if you were watching tv or sitting on the couch or something he would use his nose and head to get under your arm. He just wanted to be loved and petted with your arm on top of him. I miss that pup.

Ted wasn't allowed on the furniture, but we had a rocking recliner. When we came home, we'd find Ted sitting on the floor next to the recliner, which was rocking because clearly he had jumped off it when he ehard the garage door open, but he'd have this expression on his face like "Who me??? Sitting on the recliner?? Oh, no, I would never sit on the recliner".

He also didn't glom down his food. He would take a mouthful of food, spit in on the floor, and walk in circles around it picking it up piec by piece.

If I reprimanded him, he "talk back" to me as I was walking away. I'd hear "grumble, grumble" and I' turn around and say "Don't you talk back to me" and he'd be looking at me with big innocent puppy eyes.

He wasn't afraid of thunder, loud noises, sirens..anything like that. But the hair dryer and the vacuum drove him nuts.

God, I miss that dog!!!!!:sad1:

Another thing, Auggie has her very own recliner. It is in the corner of the living room and there is a window on each side. She can prop up at either window to watch the squirrels. She LOVES to watch the squirrels all day long. She will sit outside in one spot for hours on end just watching them play. She will only move her head as needed if they jump to another tree. She sure has patience. I love my baby girl!

She was a Border Collie/Husky mix (she looked way more Border Collie!). I used to play this game to impress visitors where I'd write "RED" and "BLUE" and "GREEN" on pieces of paper with the correct color of ink. I'd tell her once what each one said and then I'd say, "Which is RED?" and she'd go push that piece of paper with her nose (and then get a treat, of course!).

She was just remembering what I'd called them, of course, but guests would leave SWEARING that my dog could read! :rotfl2:

My cat takes Xanax. That's basically what it is since she's so anxious. The Vet says it's probably because she was an abandoned kitty. She's like a dog. She is always by my side and I do mean always sleeping, eating, watching TV, following me around the house. The boy cat couldn't really care less what I do half the time. He does love to drink bath water. After I take a shower he hops right into the bathtub to drink any remaining water.

Out of all my three cats my youngest is by far the smartest. She acts more like a dog though. But one thing she does is she hogs all the toys I buy for them.
They are all hidden in her corner in our bedroom. She made it clear our bedroom is her bedroom and the other two cats are not allowed there. This way she has her own food/water bowls, litter pan, our bed for her bed, and she can hide all the toys in a corner of her/our room. :rotfl2: If another cat comes near the room she chases them out.

Your 'Berner Bump' made me think of this - my Bouvier does the same thing, he is always leaning into me when I walk him. He walks behind me though, not in front. Well, I found out from the last Westminster show that they are considered herding dogs! I never knew this, I always thought they were working dogs because they are known for pulling carts of goods to market. But they also are herders-I think cattle. I had also thought that Bouviers were cart dogs, too. Ya learn something new every day! That does explain it!

She also likes to curl up on my feet if I stop for just a moment in the kitchen..;)

My black lab loves rocks. He will go around our property and collect every rock he can find, some are quite large. Then he will pile them up and lay there and lick the rocks. :confused3

My bosco cat will smack me in the head at two am to be loved. He also loves to sit in the kitchen sink, which he is not alowed, then look at me like... "what? Im not doing anything." Bandit pees on men.
