Anyone have success with being reimbursed from pet insurance? We are submitting our first claim to ASPCA pet insurance and hoping for a smooth transaction.

I'm wondering what others might have experienced using pet insurance.

TIA!

I had insurance on my last dog. Not ASPCA insurance, though. Had to have a couple of procedures done during the time I owned her (cataract surgery, and broken leg) both covered, no problem being reimbursed.

When I had to have her put down, they prorated what I had paid for that year and, besides paying for the vet visit to do it, I was reimbursed the extra money.

I think the company was VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance).

I think we have VPI for our dog. We’ve been fortunate enough not to have needed it yet, happy to hear they’re easy to work with.

We have Nationwide (formerly VPI ) for both routine and illness/injury and they are great! We have the vet fill out the form which I fax with receipt and usually the next day get confirmation it was received and usually is processed in a few weeks. We get about half back of what was spent.

Trupanion! We've had them for over 4 years now and we currently pay less than what they pay us back every month.

Claims are easy, you can fill out the form online and scan/snap a picture of your invoice and your set..claims are processed usually within the week and faster if its for a known condition then the funds are simply direct deposited.
They do also offer direct billing where they can pay the Vet directly (vet has to be setup for this) we don't because I rather have the credit card points though.

We are currently almost $15,000 into reimbursements

I wish you luck with ASPCA insurance..my sister had a free trial but it was pretty bad and she dumped it quickly in favor of Trupanion.

I am reading a lot of terrible reviews for ASPCA. I hope they work out for us because we can't switch since our dog was just diagnosed with a condition.

We use healthy paws. There's a 250 dollar deductible. Wellness is not covered, but it's really there for emergency situations. It covers 80 percent after the 250 dollar deductible, which we have on 2 dogs.

I just recently got back $1.16 for one of my dogs, so reimbursement does happen. And I have another claim in on the way of which I'll probably get back about $90 for.

A few years ago I got into a spat with my previous dog and VPI, with them claiming my dog had a pre-existing condition - even with 2 vets verifying that it was not. After settling the claim they dropped me.

I am preparing myself for a denial. We got the insurance in February and my dog just started showing symptoms and was tested yesterday for a condition where his skull is not accommodating the size of his brain (chiari malforma). It is treatable with a 10k surgery, and I just paid 2k for diagnostic testing.

Even though he was just showing symptoms within my coverage period, from what I am reading it sounds like this is something they will say was pre existing.

I really hope they cover part of it, at least, but whatever it costs I am going to take care of my lil guy, who I love almost as much as my children and husband!

I honestly never thought I'd spend this kind of money on a pet, but here I am. Never say never.

Poor thing. Is your dog a Cavalier King Charles or a Doberman? I am just curious because those breeds are predisposed to conditions like that. I hope you can get it all worked out.

Thank you. Yes, he's a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. I am so disappointed right now, but I will deal with it one step at a time His cousin had the same thing and he got the operation and he's doing great. Out of the surgeon's previous patients, only two out of 400 have died from this so my little guy's odds are good. Many cavaliers get put to sleep due to this condition because the treatment is so expensive or not accessible to them.
