Looking for suggestions on companies and coverage amounts. Leaning toward ASPCA and trying to decide bt $45/month and $60; difference of $3k vs $5k annual coverage and hereditary conditions.

After extensive research and speaking to my vet, we went with Trupanion. The reason being there is no payout limit and zero restriction on hereditary conditions. They pay 90% of the cost.
Most of the policies I was looking at not only had a limit, but it wasn't even a yearly or biannual limit.. it was for the life of the policy! So that 10,000 didn't look so great for any type of ongoing issue. My vet was helpful because I simply asked him what he recommended, and he told me Trupanion pays out with less hassle and restrictions that any of the other companies they deal with (and no he had no affiliation with them).
I am in Canada but it is an American company as well. It was more expensive than the others I was looking at, but so much better it was worth it. You can adjust your deductible to lower or increase your monthly payment when you set up the plan online.
With a 3 month old chocolate lab and a $600 deductible my payment is $42 a month.

You can find the website here if you are interested. They'll send a quote to your email with a coupon for savings on your first month. I forgot to use mine but I think it was $15.

ETA) I should note my first month payment was over $80. I can't for the life of me remember why now, but I think it was an activation fee or sign up fee or basically some other stupid thing that just meant they could take extra money at the start. In the end the policy was so good I just decided I could get over the extra fee for the first month.

We absolutely love petplan. Rates vary depending on breed/species, deductible, and percent reimbursement.

We have 2 dogs (one is an amputee with a lot of health issues) with a $50 per incident deductible, 100% reimbursement & $8000 yearly coverage each and pay about ~$40 each per month. Messing with the deductible to $200 and 80% dropped it to $11.

I have always received my reimbursement checks in less than 2 weeks, and the paperwork is so simple. I literally saved thousands this year alone.

I belong to a mastiff group on Facebook. We had a similar conversation earlier this year. Someone shared this fantastic link

which compares all the major pet insurances (and has links to all of them as well). I found it helpful and thought I would share it here.

That was eye opening. Forget my earlier suggestion OP:lmao:
Trupanion really outshines the others I compared it to in Canada, but from looking at that, it's not quite as good as some of the options you guys have in the U.S.. Also they cover 90% here and only 80% in the U.S.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Healthy Paws. I got it when our pug was a puppy - so I didn't have to worry about pre-existing conditions. I got the best plan -90% covered after $100 yearly deductible.

I got the insurance last November. Since then, our puppy has had 2 knee surgeries (to the tune of about $1500 each), and a couple of small medicine claims I made. After I e-mail them the scanned receipts, w/in 5 hours I have notification that our check is in the mail. NO problems whatsoever sending them a bill for that much, they just said okay, and here is payment. Very easy, can go to any doctor we want. I don't have to 'guess' what they are going to pay for, I just know it will all be covered (except for the regular exam fee - but they say that up front). I can't believe how fast they are. Right now we only pay around $34/month for the coverage. I am interested to see if it will go up when our year comes around because we had several claims. We'll see.

The insurance is the greatest thing ever and the best peace of mind for only $34/month. I love it and will probably try to keep it on her for a long time, as long as it remains affordable!
