I'm FINALLY going to be getting a puppy! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

My friend's dog just had five puppies. He has promised me one of them and I'm so excited! They are pomarainians (sp?) and they're cute little friendly dogs...well, at least the mom is cute and friendly (and VERY spoiled) and although I haven't met the daddy I am told that he is just has friendly (and spoiled). Anyway, enough about that. I'm looking into pet insurance for my new puppy and I was wondering if any pet owners here had it and if so what company do you go through and is it worth it? I was looking at one plan that covered all the vaccine's and checkups and there was a $50 copay for any medical proceedures that might need to be done. It was about $25/month...is that about right for pet insurance? I've never had to buy pet insurance before so I don't know anything about it. Any info on it would be appreciated...THANKS :)

but I wish we had ......had it when Jasmine was with us.....she was the best doggie around......and all the tests and meds the last year of her life.....was very expensive.....we always say I wish alot lately....have alot of fun with your furbaby

Here is a comparison of most pet insurance.

Though the site is written mainly for NYC city doggies, I think it applies to most of us owners. I researched it quite extensively, but decided not to get it. I adopted a Sheltie last year, and he was 8 then. Most insurance won't cover older dogs, not breed specific disease...etc, and it's not that cheap. I now pay about $500 annually for checkups / dental and everything else.

We have pet insurance for both of our hell hounds through here

I pay approx $47/month for both of them. It's the gold package, but does not cover vaccinations.
Fortunately we've not yet had to use the insurance, but it makes me feel better knowing that we have it just in case.

I don't have pet insurance. I thought about checking into it, but haven't yet. My puppy's vaccinations and check up is around $50. He's got 1 more of his puppy rounds and he'll be done for awhile. He's a Pomeranian.:)

Jenzebelle- What all does it cover? Does it cover the basics like vaccines and stuff? A friend also told me to make sure they covered neutering and when the puppy is old enough he'll have to be neutered. Does this one cover that too?

I looked into pet insurance extensively when we got our new pup, Jasmine last Aug. I spent a ton of money on my older collie that has cancer and wish I had it with her. What I found out was: With what the premiums cost a year and what I usually spent on vet bills for routine yearly visits, it wasn't worth it. As for when they get sick, you only have so much money allotted to a certain illness. For example, I think cancer was 1500.00. I have spent alot more on Kaesee than that. And yes, I could have saved that money if I had insurance. But when I figured everything out as I said, I would have paid way more with the insurance than just paying out of pocket.
