Just a comment: As I sit at work caring for 1-2 pound babies fighting to live, breathing only by a machine I read these posts.
Now call me a Southern Sap but it amazes me that we have allowed ourselves(in some resort bashing posts) to get so worked up about something really quite trivial in the grand scheme of life. It really is disheartening and I worry the image we are giving to newbies coming here excited about DVC. I am a newbie myself and can tell you I would have backed out if I read some of what I read tonight. I am a SSR owner and proud to be. I feel neutral in that I haven't visited BWV, BCV or OKW (the topics of many debates) so I would like to propose a truce (sp?) at least for the week of Thanksgiving...
so new topic: What are you thankful for in regards to DVC?
I'm thankful for:
$ to buy dvc, a car to drive ALL THE WAY to FL, technology to provide us these forums, healthy kids to enjoy WDW, and for living in a country where we can have the freedom to have differing opinions

Perspective is often a difficult thing to maintain in life, and you have stated it well, Stephanie.

These are discussion boards, and most of what I've read is not personal attacks...it's just people stating (strongly) their opinions.

I'm thankful for so many things in my personal life, but for these purposes let me say that I'm thankful for Pete Werner starting up this board and for all the people who post on it, whether I agree with them or not.

Very well said, Stephanie. We are newbies also and I know what you mean about some of the negative things said sometimes about various resorts , housekeeping, etc. It can be very discouraging. I am with you on thinking more positive, especially this time of year, and being thankful for all that we do have. Wishing all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and a chance to remember all that we do have. Thanks Stephanie, for reminding me what is really important!

Stephanie, I'm thankful for people like you that can remind of us how grateful we should be for small things or the greater things that we take for granted. I to had a small baby only 3 lbs at birth and that was 18 years ago. I am glad after all his struggles fighting for life that he is here today to spend Thanksgiving with our family. He has a difficult road in his future because of learning disablities. But doesn't seem to notice. I'm thankful for his character when he does something that makes me so proud he's my son. He had a wonderful friend who was murdered a couple of months ago. He just didn't understand the evil of it. As he had never been subjected to something of that sort. The young man's parents were not very well off financially and were having a problem with burial arrangements. My son donated his weekly check from his job and started asking his other friends to donate $ to help bury their friend. Things like that make you stop and look around.
So I'm thankful for a healthy family and the $ in my pocket that make me able to sit here at a computer and write when I know someone out there can't afford it. I'm thankful for a good job that I enjoy going to.
I'm thankful all my new friends here at the DVC boards.

I too get a little disheartened reading the negatives.

Sometimes I get outright disgusted, but the goodness definitely outweighs the bad, and from previous trips, I am aware that even WDW can't make some people happy, so I feel sorry for them.

I am thankful for so much.

I read a post about how a parent felt they would be devastating their child if they brought a sandwich into the park to save money as opposed to counter service. I thought how this person had lost all perspective. How could you put devastate and WDW in the same sentence? All I could think of was as a child we would have been happy to be there and would not care what we ate. (we never went to WDW)

So I am thankful for children who enjoy picnic lunches, and sledding down grass hills in the middle of November because there's no snow, and still say please and thank you mama.

I too don't want to discourage the new members with pettiness and bickering so please take it as passionate discussions of people who love WDW or else they would not be here. I am thankful for all the helpful people on these boards that helped my family make our decision to purchase DVC this year.

I am thankful for Emacman who planned a better DVC meet than DVC!

All the DVC resorts are wonderful and I know I am blessed to be able to have my family stay at any of them.

I totally enjoy these boards, and check in often daily. I truly enjoy talking about WDW. I feel my eyes light up whenever someone mentions it. So Im also thankful for people who enjoy talking about WDW as much as I do.

DVC seems to have alot of nurses, doctors, lawyers, firemen and others who have a difficult work load.

they says alot about DVC and WDW - where even people who face stress everyday can relax and enjoy life.

I';m a nurse and let me tell you, we barely have time to go to the bathroom or eat a meal, let alone surf the net at work!!!!!

Perspective is everything, and I am grateful for my profession, as it helps me keep perspective when sometimes I am getting a little too self-involved.

Very nice sentiments and I agree with them all (except for the kids, since I have none, but I am thankful for my niece instead, whom I got to spend 5 days with at WDW for her first trip this past July, along with my DS, DBiL, DM and DF. We stayed on rented points at BCV and I thought it was wonderful enough to buy so you'll hear no bashing from me.) I am also thankful to be lucky enough to have had the money to buy into the DVC, which my DGf and I will enjoy in just a matter of days. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We don't even get to leave the room to eat our patients are too critical but we do still get a 30 minute break during our 13 hour shift where we can "relax", I choose not only to surf the web but work on pta stuff on the computer for my daughter's school. During this time I am still 2 feet away from my patient even though technically another RN has been assigned to care for this patient during this time. I do not appreciate that you are implying I neglected my patient in some way.
spicey cat- I'm not very computer literate so I don't know how to go back and look at the thread and then come back to this screen but the posts I was referring to was the one regarding the OKW grandvilla that got off subject and Doc had to moderate and the thread "why not buy the cheapest resort"

Thanks for your post---it was refreshing. In reference to the comments that were made to you and your above comeback---I agree with 100%. I'm a high-risk labor and delivery nurse. In addition to helping to deliver babies into this world, we have a percentage of patients who we try our best to not let deliver because the babies would be too immature. We monitor them 24/7 on our high-risk unit. Most of the time we're pretty successful, but we do see those tiny 1 pounders coming way too soon. I understand and fully appreciate the whole 13 hour shift issue. I worked them for 5 years before throwing in the towel because it literally made me physically ill to not get to the bathroom or get rest breaks. I had to get a doctor's note to get off that shift.
I worked 7pm to 8 am for those 5 years and I know the dedication myself and my fellow nurses had for their patients. Even today, it's rare I get a full 30 minute break during my 8 1/2 hour shift, but I have been known to jump on the boards for 15 minutes or so. Most of my breaks are spent sitting in front of monitors, stuffing down a sandwich or something.
So thanks again for the uplifting post. We all truly have alot to be grateful for. I'm thankful for my family and friends (and this includes my online DIS friends too !).

Glad to see someone that can relate! It amazes me how some people can be so critical of others but ya know I guess I should have learned by now that's life.
Glad you were able to get off the night shift, I've been doing it for 7 years now so I can be a "pretend" SAHM but It's aged this 28 year old WAY too much!

I actually worked 11-7:30 am for 6 years and then the 7pm-8am for 5 years for exactly the same reasons as you. I didn't want to put my 3 small children in daycare (not that I have a problem with anyone else doing this---it was a personal decision for me). Actually, this was another thing that I was always thankful for---that I had the opportunity to make the decision to work this shift so I could stay home with my kids during the day. Now that my kids are 11, 13 and 16, I can work part-time 3-11:30 pm shift. I love being able to actually sleep at NIGHT after more than a decade of not. And I know what you mean about how the graveyard ages you----they don't call it "graveyard shift" for nothing ! LOL Hang in there......you'll get to sleep at night again one day too !

As a mother who had 3 children spent 3,5 & 6 weeks respectively in a NICU, I sincerely thank you (especially this time of year ) for the incredible job you do. I unfortunately have found some other comments completely unneccessary. Yes we are all entitled to our opinions, and many are welcome. Lets remember that this is a forum to discuss vacations, something we are all fortunate enough to take not belittle someone.
