Personalizing Luggage

Last year we used those foam animal stampers you get in the craft dept, and just used the plastic ties to put them around the handles. We had all different ones on the handles, and no one else had anything like it.
This year we wanted to add to it, so we are putting disney appliques on the suitcases. We got them at Hobby Lobby. Not only are the unique, but decorating helps with the Disney feeling.

One of my suitceses is orange so that one isn't a problem. I found bright blue Mickey packing tape to put on my black bags though. That combined with hot pink ribbons on the handle make them stand out.

I'm always on the lookout for wierd luggage tags too. On our last trip we were using new bags and forgot to put any luggage tags on them. I was at the gap when I found luggage tags being liquidated. One was a flashy silver colour, and the other was in the shape of an orange! No one would want to steal my luggage ;)

The single most effective method I have ever seen goes to a collegue of mine who travels more than 200 days a year for work. While this is too extreme for most (including me) there is no doubt it is effective. He has taken neon orange spray paint and painted a large X on the front and back of each of his bags. When ever I travel with him there is no doubt at all which bags are his :earsboy:

Drastic, yes...But the same effect can be achieved with Neon Duct Tape. I've done it and I like to use multiple neon colors. This is especially great when cruise lines dump all the bags for 2000 pax into one area. Mine stands out in the sea of black and green bags. I had one British Airways attendant ask me if I was in the Coast Guard. LOL :lmao:

Where do you find neon duct tape? My son looooooves duct tape. I've found red, blue, green, purple, blue, yellow, white - I think that's all. Oh, of course grey :teeth: I've heard there's pink and camoflauge and others, but haven't found them.

I used fabric paint markers from the craft store and stenciled big initials on the front and one side. Worked beautifully and does not run.

You could even use the markers to paint big Mickey Heads on all your luggage. I thought about doing that but then tried to picture my DH dragging luggage with Mickey Heads through the airports one business trips and decided the initials were more appropriate for him!

I'm think I bought it at Meijers, though its been a few years so I'm not positive. That stuff lasts for a LONG time. When I bought it they had neon orange, neon yellow and neon green. I've never seen the camo, but then again I wanted my luggage to stand out so I wasn't looking for it. I'm pretty sure my duct taped luggage could serve as a target if the United States Airforce wanted to use it as such. :lmao:

Try going to the Dollar Store and buying Shoe laces, the tackier the better. They carry the big fat shoe laces in yellow, orange, plaids...

My SD loves camo tape. We can only get it at hunting season in the fall at wall mart. But we get about 4 rolls for her. She is now 16 and wants more for her truck.

my cases are neon pink to start with lol.
but I have the big disney tags ofdonalds hat, mickeys shoe, donalds hat that also go on the cases.

my suitcase is bright red. i have painted skulls and crossbones all over it in black. pirate: everyone usually stares at it as it coming down the belt.

I buy neon or brightest color yarn I can find, and make pom poms (like people used to wear on their roller skates or ice skates), and tie them to the handles.

I picked up some Disney themed room border stencils and stamps at The Home Depot and some liquid acrylic paint in different colors (it comes in little plastic bottles at Michael's), plus a plastic tray, and an ink roller and got crazy stamping Mickey hands and heads on some bags, then rolling paint over Mickey leaping stencils on other bags... :wizard:

I have been looking for this thread for about an hour! I didn't realize that the last post was a month ago. :confused3 Anyway, I just made tags to put on our luggage.

I had a One Pound Scrap Pack lying around and over the weekend I had pulled out some of the colors and sizes that had pretty many pieces. There were a number of lime green 2" x 4.5" pieces that I had set aside, not quite sure what I'd do with them. Tonight I figured out what to do with them.

I had already printed labels with our name, cell phone number, resort name and date of our vacation. I stuck one on the piece of card stock and added a Disney character sticker from a Disney Movie Club packet I got in the mail a while ago. I also noted the luggage size at the bottom (21" c/o, 25" vert, etc.). I listed the contents of the suitcase on the other side so I know I have everything packed, equally disbursed for weight and need should something get delayed or lost, and I will be able to find something without opening four suitcases. Plus I should be able to repack for the return trip and not be trying to figure out how I got it all in there.

I got laminating sheets at Walmart and will then punch a hole to string them to the luggage handles.

Wow there isn't much more needed to do when your suitcases are already navy flower print! My ex hated those bags! I love them at least I know which are mine when they are coming down the ramp! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Don't forget to weigh your suitcases.. Airlines are getting very strict on overweight bags. Check online with your air carrier to see what their maximum allowance is.

Sooo funny! :rotfl: I have to do this EVERY time I go on vacation, as my suitcases are stores in the attic, which is my cat's favorite room in the house!! Green suitcase...white fur!!

Hey, what is it with cats and suitcases, anyway? :cat: My cat sleeps on the suitcases any time they are out!

I know, why not let the cat STAY on the suitcases while we travel? Who would want a suitcase with a CAT on it?

grat tips, i am going to get some ribbon to tie to the handle of mine and i am now on the hunt for neon duct tape :)

We used acrylic paints to decorate our luggage the last time we went to WDW. You can get the kind that comes in tubes with a small tip on the end, so no brushes are needed to paint. Our luggage sure stood out!

We use the baggage belts, mine has Mickey heads on it and I think my parents have brightly coloured ones.

WOW! You guys are really creative! But some food for thought from a friend in the airline security biz. It depends on what your goal is. If you're just trying to make your bag easily ID'd then duck tape, ribbons, stickers, etc. are great ideas! However, a thief is looking for an ordinary-looking bag. And if he can make yours look "ordinary" by snipping off the ribbons on the handle or peeling off the duct tape, you can be sure that he can and will--discretely and proficiently. According to my friend, the best deterrent is something permanently fixed to the bag. He recommends paint :artist: or just buying a bag that is a little different looking than the others. Everybody have great trips--with your luggage! :sunny:
