Every year I get a Christmas card and letter from an old friend - the card and newsletter to include their signature is printed - the return address and my address are also computer-generated. Am I being wrong to think that a card that is personally addressed or signed would be nice?

Please don't get too mad at me if you don't agree :-)

We have one relative (not on my side:rolleyes1 ) that does this. It would be nice to have the card signed (at least) I don;t mind the address label being printed but at least sign the card!

I wrote my cards by hand this year, but it may be our last year because my hands have become so crippled with arthritis that my handwriting is horrid.

I would never ever judge how someone send my greeting because you have no idea what it took for that person to send it. And just wanted to add, many people who see me everyday have no idea how much pain I am in and how bad my hands really are. I am really good at hiding them so you can't see how misshaped they have become.

I use to sign my own cards when I use to mail only about 40. Now our Christmas card list has grown to 80 and there is no way I am signing all of them. I do Christmas photo cards with my boys pics on it and I have the signature computer generated. It's so much easier.

And I totally understand that but these people are very capable

Thats the point I am making, my own mother who I see every week and talk to everyday had no idea how bad my hands have become. She noticed them for the first time last week and cried. Its not something I share and unless you actually look at my hands, you have no idea.

This year I sent out preprinted cards with no written signature.

It was the only way it was going to get done. In half an hour I leave for my preliminary radiation treatment after September's mastectomy. (Yes, I realize it's Christmas Eve.)

My husband leaves in 2 hours to pick up his mom, who will be spending Christmas with us-- dad died 8 days after my surgery.

I could go on and on and on about what an awful year it's been. My point is that we wanted to send cards, and did it in a way that was possible for us. For all those people who have had more time, wonderful.

I'm hoping that all whe received our card smiled at how big the kids have gotten, as opposed to asking why they weren't personally signed.

I don't see what the big deal is. Whether I personally signed them or not the thoughts and wishes are still there.

I got an emailed Christmas greeting, looked like mass mailed to everyone in his address book, from an old friend.

They took the effort to get a card in the mail to you. I get where you're coming from, but be glad they took the effort to send you something. Those names still have to be put on the list, and they wanted to send a greeting to you. Try to look at it that way, if you can.

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!

I got one of the photo cards from my cousin and her family. She didnt sign it or anything... but the funny part was that she must have photo-shopped it becasue her whole foot was missing! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: That was too funny for me to even care about the generic card!

I agree with those who say that this is not a big deal. It is the thought that counts, and it takes the same amount of thought to include you in a holiday greeting card list whether the card is manually signed or not. Signing one's name manually is an automatic operation; it doesn't represent any more personal interest in you, the recipient. Handwriting things requires more physical labor (not more thought); expecting someone to incur more physical labor on your behalf is not really in the spirit of giving and receiving holiday greentings.

I think there is something to be said for including a personal greeting -- a sharing of information specifically relevant to the relationship you have with the person you're sending a greeting to. That does reflect a higher level of regard. However, that's something only the closest of friends and relatives should hope for, and generally, these days, I would expect that to be substantially redundant with the various other means people who are indeed so close interact with each other, i.e., telephone, email, etc.

We got a card that was done by Vista Print - they didn't write anything on the card at aoo - not To blah blah blah or From Blah blah blah.... Personally, I think its kinda rude and very un-Holiday like.

I used to feel this way until I got a full-time job last year. No time for any cards last year and no time for cards this year either.

Yesterday I thought, which is worse, sending nothing at all, or sending a pre-printed, pre-labeled card? I'd rather my friends not think I fell off the face of the earth, so I quick found a picture and ran up to the drug store and got them done.

Good friends that I don't see very often will get a quick not, update, on the back.

Well, those that sent pre-printed things have me beat this year. ;) I had a medical issue a few weeks ago that totally knocked me off my feet for a week--and with the medication I was on, writing Christmas cards was out of my capabilities. Hey, maybe they'd have been more interesting than usual. :lmao: Something had to give so this year, the Christmas cards were out. I'll send a New Year's note out instead.

But, no, it doesn't matter to me at all if someone signs a card or addresses the envelope. It's enough for me that they were thinking of me.

My mom began sending out a pre-printed card and using address labels a couple of years ago due to her arthritis. In fact, all she does is stuff the cards in the envelopes--I type everything up to her specifications. Luckily, I'd done this early this year so she was all set. I'm pretty sure her friends don't mind either since most of them are elderly, as well. I hope our younger relatives realize that this is the best she can do nowadays.

It's no big deal, either way.

Personally, a lot of people on my Christmas card list are older women, who would not look too kindly on getting a computer generated card with printed address labels, so I always take the time to write a message by hand, sign my name, and write out the addresses myself.

I'm glad to be remembered and so many more important things to think about that being offended by a computer-generated vs. hand written card is about number 1 million on the list.

We have not received any Christmas cards that haven't had a signature. I think it is nice that people take the time to sign if they are able but it is no skin off of my nose if they don't.

I would suggest that anyone who is really offended by it please let the sender know at some point before next Christmas.

Save them the postage.

I print address and signature labels. I send out over 100 cards and the time to self address and sign everyone would require me to shorten my list. When I had a much smaller list I hand signed them all.

Everything on mine is handwritten - but then again, I love to write..:goodvibes

At the very least, I would think signing their name would be a nice touch..:confused3
