I was reading in an old thread that people were wanting the CM to tell people that a child can not ride on a ECV with an adult. I will be taking my personally owned scooter (not rented from private company or disney). I have had cancer for awhile now and have always carried my baby now turned toddler on it with me. First in a baby sling and now sits on my lap. I have never had any problems, falls, or felt unsafe. Actually, quite the opposite, because I could contain him and keep him close and participate in caring for him. We were not going to get a stroller because he rides with me when needed. So this news is upsetting to hear and now unsure how to proceed.

I'm sorry it's upsetting. Although you've never had an issue, it IS a safety issue.

Could you get by the whole trip without anyone saying anything? Sure. It could happen. Do the CMs on a privately owned property have the right and ability to ask that you do not carry a passenger on a single person contraption? Yes.

Since you said we, I'm assuming you could rent a stroller and have so done to push it? You're just choosing not to? Seems like that would solve the issue.

Thank you for your thoughts and helping see it from a different viewpoint "CMs on a privately owned property have the right and ability to ask that you do not carry a passenger on a single person contraption? Yes." That is so totally correct.

I will be with my husband (our other kids) but didn't want a stroller since it will be hard enough to go through crowds with my scooter. But I know my toddler can't walk the whole time or even dh carry him. Also, my son will expect to ride with me since that is his norm and I will need prepare him for not being with me.

It is mostly my issue and mad at cancer for all that it has changed in my life. Last time we went to disney I didn't have cancer and it is was wonderful and stress free but I don't think this time it will be as great because of all my issues. But I am trying to make it great for my kids.

It'll be what you make it. Take it slow and enjoy it. It won't be the same, but it'll still be great.

you also have to take into consideration that Disney is NOT in any way shape or form like your everyday routine at home. what may be perfectly safe at home will NOT be at the Parks

To add on to this, on more than one occasion I have seen a scooter tipped because the driver had to swerve suddenly to avoid someone who stepped in front of them. Not the scooter driver's fault. but imagine if there was a child on your lap and your options were to swerve or hit someone? Not safe for the child in either case.

I agree. This happens (people suddenly cutting right in front of you, or stopping dead in their tracks with no warning) way too often in the parks. Its hard enough to avoid them when you are walking, never mind on an ECV that can't stop on a dime. This is only one of the reasons why having an unsecured child riding with you is unsafe. A baby that is strapped to your body is a whole different thing.
