We are living in a new town- We have recieved PPT bills for both of our cars from our town AND our county-What is that about? Does this happen to anyone else? We still live in the same state just a different town. We have always paid this to the town we live in. Any thoughts anyone? It seems like we're getting taxed twice for the same thing. TIA!! :)

Not sure where you live but here in VA you get billed by your county unless you live in an incorporated town and then you are billed only by the town not the town and the county. The only wierd thing we have is that we have a mailing address in an incorporated town but don't technically live with in city limits so we pay to the county not the town. I am pretty sure in VA all the taxes go to the state and are the distributed back to the counties and towns.

I am originally from NJ where we dont have PPT so the whole thing threw me for a loop when I moved down here. At least our county did away with stickers which saved me $25 per car

A lot of states have Personal Property Taxes. Basically you are being taxed on your goods. You can either look at it as being taxed on them twice (or 3 times if you paid a sales tax on them) or you can look at it as the city is taking 1/2 of the tax and the county is taking 1/2 the tax. Either way, you have to pay :lmao: .

Had this type tax when we lived in Massachusetts and New Hampster (paid to the town/city we lived in) but no such tax in New York.

yeah, it is better to look at it as having half the tax paid to the town and half to the county. :thumbsup2

Ditto Kimberle. I receive a PPT bill from my town, which is billed twice a year.

I had this happened to me once, I moved to Chester County, PA and then later on I received a tax bill for my stock that I owned......I was so furious about that!!!! Weasels!!!! Well, I moved out of that area and never received it again.

in SC you pay the county PPT for your car/boat/trailer, then if you live in an incorporated area you also pay the town/city.

:furious: :furious: :furious: One of my tax peeves I have with VA. There are others. Having previously lived in NJ and in FL where they don't have these taxes, it really stinks!! :furious: :furious: :furious:

P.S. I might not feel so bad about these IF THEY WOULD KEEP THE ROADS IN TOP SHAPE! But they don't. The roads in my area of FL were much better. Here, how many times can rocks hit your windshield on I-64 before you have a crack running side to side? They need to use some street sweepers for starters!
