Personal messages in posts

We've started to get a lot of personal messages in posts on this board. Posts like "I just sent you a PM" or "I just sent you an email" are considered personal messages and are covered in our http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm under #4.


"4. NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: These boards are not for exchanging personal messages with friends. For that, we suggest you use email. These boards require an email address be entered prior to posting. If you have a personal comment for that person, please direct it to them via email. If the use of the boards for personal messages continues, those messages will be deleted. Remember, if the message is not intended for EVERYONE, it does not belong on the boards! "

Please use the PM feature or email, but not the board itself for such messages. This type of message will be allowed on the Rent/Trade Board since it is not a discussion forum, but an opportunity for personal contact.

I understand your message. Perhaps this could be eliminated if the boards popped up that you have PMs. They don't anymore and people miss them (I routinely see mine about 5 days late!) Just a suggestion and you do a great job here!

The PM Pop Up does still work. You can check your setting in your Profile (Go to "Edit Profile" and select PM Pop Up).

Otherwise, you'll need to check your PM's more frequently.

Can't you also receive an e-mail notification in the event that someone has sent you a PM and you are not online?

the pops up work not only if online when the PM is sent but (at least for me) when I come to my CP and have a PM waiting. It lets me know with a popup and then I go read it.

I also get emails when I get a PM.

POP up works IF I'M ONLINE when the message is left. I don't get a pop up if I go on after the message is left. This changed about 6 months ago.

sorry - I think I just wrote one. I just read a private message from a month ago - did not even know I had messages. I have been trying to contact mikesmom88 twice with pm - she obviously does not know about the private messages either. Any other way of sending e-mail? I will go to edit profile to see if I get a pop up.

At the top of this page (left side) is the "User CP" link. Click on that and then select "Edit Options"- the "PM pop-up" selection is one of those options.

One other question Doc (and thank you). If I send a pm and an e-mail notification, does the e-mail go to their regular aol screen name or a their screen name on the disboard? I have done both. I went to profile. I don't think the e-mail goes to their aol screen name otherwise mikesmom88 would of received it and contacted me. Thanks

I also do not get e-mail notifications which is sooooo frustrating not being able to follow-up on threads I reply. So this has not helped either. Thank you again. You guys do a great job.

I'm not a system expert, but is it possible that the people that are having problems with getting the notifications may have installed a firewall or other security setting that prevents the pop-ups from opening...or that may consider the email from the forum to be spam?

Chuck is right, some ISP's treat messages as spam, some firewalls deny the messages and some are sent to emails no longer being used by the poster.
