We are thinking about going to Disney for our anniversary in the fall around the end of October or beginning of November. I've been checking out prices for 2 adults and it is rather expensive especially staying on site. I'm seeing prices of $2,000 or higher. Is this normal? I was just curious as to what you all normally pay for a Disney vacation? Maybe I'm being cheap.

Average can vary depending on where you're coming from, where you're staying, what you like to eat etc. I just priced my Apr10 - Apr 18, 9 day vacation out yesterday, 2 adults and 1 10 year old, and came up with the following:

828.00 - airfare for 3 roundtrip from Seattle, bought when fares were low
837.00 - 3 nights at the Polynesian Garden View using and Annual Pass (AP) rate
936.00 - 3 nights at the Contemporary, Tower room with AP rate
650.00- 2 7-day Park Hopper Plus passes (will use leftover of the days when we go back in December, they never expire)
395.00 - 1 annual pass. Enabled us to get the much cheaper AP rate at the Polynesion and Contemporary
288.00- SUV rental from National for length of stay
255.00 - 5 day passes to Universal - will only be there for two but this was a special using Kraft as the code and cheaper than 2 days
380.00 - 2 nights at Royal Pacific, Universal
1800.00 - food, souvenirs, and incidentals for length of stay, I figure about 200.00 per day for this based on where we like to eat and what we like to buy

Total: $6569.00

A Disney Trip can add up fast! :genie:

:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

Disney Quest $$48.00

Rental Car $250.00

Gas to and from PA - EST $150.00

We booked through expedia.com last year and paid $969 total for myself, dh and our then 4 year old. This included 3 RT, nonstop airline tix on Delta from Boston to Orlando, 6 nights at a Comfort Suites in LBV and a midsize rental. We bought our passes from Ticketmania for about $550 so without meals it was $1500 for 3 of us.

We will be going with 3 kids next March and are renting a house for $600/wk, plus I'm figuring about $1250 for 5 airline tix, $950 passes, $250 rental car plus meals.

I think if you don't stay in the park you should be able to do the whole trip including meals for under $2500. Try expedia...they were awesome to deal with! Good luck!

It would be cheaper during value season, which begins 10/31 (I think). So if you go in November it should be cheaper than October (which is regular season) Sometimes that makes a huge difference.

Geniegirl,

Plz spill the beans how you got Port Orleans for $75.00 a night? Which website? We would be flying from Metro airport in Detroit.
I can get a reasonable price for the airfare. The hotel is the problem. Some websites I've looked at air/hotel packages and it would cost us at least $2,000 for 2 people. This price does include tickets in the park. Any other ideas?

Disney can be done on a budget or you can spend thousands of dollars. It depends on you. On what you want. Do you want onsite? Do you want sit-down meals? What length your passes will be? Rental car? Airfare?

The most expensive part for us is room, airfare, passes and then food. Everything else isn't quite as bad.

We prefer onsite for the special 'magic' and benefits; we especially like a monorail resort if we can afford it.

We enjoy sit-down means and character meals.

We prefer having our own car for convenience.

We always spend at least $4,000 for our family of 4 total, but usually a bit more.

the rates at the moderates with annual pass discount run around $75 a night plus tax. AAA rates are pretty good to and if you book through AAA [membership required] you also get to Park in the AAA parking areas which are right up front at the parks.
As for tickets annual passes are best for 8 nights or more. Plus you get additional discounts and perks with it.

I am going in May paying $162.50 plus Tax per night at the Swan lake view. $229 pp air from Boston, $239 car rental, $189. scooter rental, already have annual passes from last fall.
food runs about $200 a day for the two of us

We've taken 3 trips in the past 2 years, flying down from the Nashville Area and staying either at WL for 7 nts. or renting points for 7 nts. at VWL.

Including $230 for pet-sitting fees and car parking near the airport, along with the usual WDW expenses, it comes to $3300 - $3500 a trip for us (2 adults and 1 child).

Yikes! Just realized how much we've spent at WDW in 2 years...but, as someone else said, the memories are priceless.

Personally, I feel that Disney vacations are outrageously expensive, especially when we've gone to Europe for a lot less, but now that we have a son, I think they're worth it.

I budget like crazy and we're close enough to drive, saving us airfare and car rental, so I don't think I could give you an accurate comparison, but I would suggest to keep searching since you have time. I hear it's always cheaper to book everything separately. As tidoublegger mentioned, we shared a huge villa rental with our family once, and the whole week cost us less than $800.

I've had good luck with Expedia, but I've only used it for off- property rooms. I also check travelzoo.com for Orlando specials.

We're going in September and I'm saving $150 for each Disney resort's night stay and hopefully a room discount code will come out for the Fall. There wasn't one last year because there were package codes instead, but I heard there was one the year before , so I've got my fingers crossed.

Also, I always try to pay for things in advance, so that I can enjoy the trip without sticker shock, so maybe that alone will help you, lol. Good luck!

tweety - If you haven't found it already - go to mousesavers.com. It's a great site that posts all the different discount codes that are available. Also it's worth it to get a Disney Visa just for their discounts on rooms - even if you don't ever use it except to pay for your room. We're staying at Coronados Springs in June for $89.00/night (actually going to try for $69.00/night when my FL resident mom gets her Disney Visa!) By the time you add tax to that (at $89.00) it's 99.24/night for 5 nights - so $496.20. We bought 7 day park hoppers with 4 plusses at ticketmania.com (also recommended by mousesavers) for $315.00/each. We'll probably use 2 pluses and 4 park days leaving us 3 days to take some other time. So that's a total of $1,126.20 for 2 people lodging and tickets so far. We plan on about $130.00/day for food - but we have a teen dd so I guess for 2 we would plan on $90.00. We like to eat a nice meal at lunch and then a counter service or food court for dinner. We also buy all the treats and drinks we want! We eat cereal in the room for breakfast unless we've planned a character breakfast. When we do that we get it as late as possible and make it double for lunch! So including gas - which will be pretty darn high I'm sure - and one souvenier per person I expect we'll spend about $2500 for 3 people. But as I said - part of that is a "down payment" on a future vacation because we won't use all our days on our hoppers.

We only live 5 hours away so we don't have to worry about airfare. I'd strongly suggest you check out the above site and keep reading here. Usually the all-inclusive packages are NOT a good deal.

We are a family of 4 but our youngest (now 22 months) is free for everything except airfare (we buy him a ticket for his own seat).

We're usually around $3500 for our vacations (9-10days)

Here's how our current October 9-17 2004 vacation is looking so far:

Air (JFK-MCO) - $950 (for 4) (not yet booked, hoping fares drop)
Hotel - $578 (8 nights)
Car - $8.00 (originally $208 but we have $200 Amex Rewards to use)
Meals - $1000
Tickets - $925 (includes 5 day PH, MNSSHP,DQ,MK tour and GF cooking class for DS)
Parking at the parks - $42

Total $3503

We don't buy many souveniers down there so we usually plan $200 for "extras". We stay off site because we like the cheaper rates and the larger rooms than what Disney offers.

:)

The key is to stop thinking "package." Except in a situation where a very "days free" package is being offered, packages are nearly always going to be much more expensive than buying your components separately.

Our 7 night AKL honeymoon was about $3200altogether:

Airfare (Rochester-MCO) $400 (or so, I can't remember!)
room only, sav view, value season with code discount for 7 nights was about $1200
two 7 day PHPs (used for two more trips!) $650
we spent about $100 a day on food (no breakfast, split lunch, fancy dinner) $800
parasailing $200 (I'd have too look this up to, but we went twice)

I'm sure we charged a few things that would increase this total, but most of it was paid before we left and we used cash for all the onsite costs (food, for example), we don't buy "things", just food. I think Mark bought a long sleeve shirt the night he was cold, oh and a swimsuit because despite my reminders he forgot his.

You could stay at a mod o\ral resort for much less and not parasail and not go out to sitdown dinner everynigth to get this cost down. Our August trip for 5 nights will run us $1500 because of cheaper rooms and we don't have to buy new tickets (still using that 7 days!). Our airfare can be the kicker, for august it was $500.

And take the previous advice, go to mousesavers.com!

May I ask how you got the $75 per night rate?

We -- me, DH, DS 10, DS 9, and DD 1 -- spent 10 days, 9 nights at AKL the first week of February and here is the breakdown of what we spent:

Travel (plane tickets + tips) - 805.
Rental Car + gas - 223.
Lodging + tips - 1308.
Tickets (7 day PHP's, Cirque, Disney Quest) - 1600.
Massage at AKL for DH's birthday + tip - 100.
Meals - 1011.
Shopping/Misc. - 826.

Total $5873.

We got a good price on the plane tickets, and on AKL. We still have one day + 4 plus days on each of the PHP tickets. We ate one offsite meal at Chili's using gift cards that I had.

I think mousesavers.com was indispensible as far as discount information and advice. Definitely use it!

Not too sure about what hotels you were looking at to stay in or for how long, but really your trips can range in price.

For example:

Not including food or souveniers:

May trip - 3 adults - 4 days - Pop Century - less than $400 p/p

July trip - 4 adults - 11 days, cruise, disney, universal - $2500 p/p

November trip - 2 adults - 7 days - All Stars/ Unviersal - less than $800 p/p

Of course, we have APs so we get the hotel discounts and only pay for passes once a year. Also, just price the hotel room and get your tickets separately. This will save you money if you do not plan on using plus options every day. I have also noticed that the disney website will automatically put you in the most expensive room. Modify the reservations to include the actual room that you want.

Latest trip:
Airfare - $800 = $200 incl tax x 4
Hotel - $320 = $144/night + tax x 2 nights (Hyatt Airport, arrival/departure days)
Minivan - $600 = $229/wk + tax x 2 weeks
The Poly - $3575 = $229/night + tax x 14 nights garden view (max # of days on an AP rate)
Annual Passes - $0, long since paid for
Vacation as a family - Priceless  (geniegirl beat me to the punch!)

That works out to $1320/person (or $330/day) for a 16 day vacation, not counting food, green fees, and other "incidentals".

Ok don’t shot me but this is what happened.

I had just booked our room at POP and a few days later my partner got a post card with a rate of $75.00 for any moderate. I called in and they said that it was for only her so we cancelled mine and re-booked under her name. Only problem is that when I called in for a special room requests they said they did not have any for my package but at this point any room is better than sitting at my desk.

I did get another quote by using my Disney visa but that was for $89.00. Not too bad either since a regular rate at the time is $134.00.

Best thing to do is keep an eye out on mouservers.com and hope for a postcard.

Not sure why we got one here are my thoughts:
1. Random

2. Its been 4 years since last trip – they just couldn’t deal without having us visit :hyper:

3. Requested a vacation DVD from Disney website under her name and got into the postcard pool.

If I divide the amount I pay each month for my DVC, by the number of days I stay at a DVC resort this year (14) I will be paying $150 a night. So....
This trip in August the cost will be...
2 nights at AllStarMusic...$150 (AP rate hopefully)
6 nights at BWV...$900 (but paid already monthly)
3 APs....$1176
Airfare from Boston...$660
Transportation from MCO...$100
Misc. shopping...$400
Food, including shows, charater meals.....$800

Total....$3786

Now, my November trip will be....
airfare....$660
6 nights at BWV...$900
food....$800
misc....$200
transp...$100

Total....$2660...no passes required since I'll have APs still.
And since I really am not paying at that time for my resort, I just kind of ignore the monthly amount, so I feel like I'm spending even less. I never do a package unless it gets me free days. And even that is not such a good thing after buying DVC.
