Recently I have discovered this message board and have generally enjoyed the responses to the various topical questions I have offered. By the large number of views and replies to my questions/comments, I gather that most of my postings were of interest to a variety of people.

Though recently, I asked a question about people's opinions about potential employees lying on their resume. I thought it was a topical and interesting question because it had been on today's CNN web page. There has been alot of news on that topic recently as employment is harder to find in today's terrible economy. Two people who replied to the question personally attacked me and told me that my questions were silly.

You are entitled to your opinion but I have a recomendation: If you do not like the postings comments or questions of a particular poster, move on and do not respond. This is basiaclly like a party. If someone bores you by their choice of conversation topics, a smart person would move on to someone else who shares their interests. No personal attacks are necessary!

I would agree. I actually thought it was a pretty interesting topic.

Chubroach - i would say Personal attacks are on the increase - so sad :(

jj..... :(

well, I found this...on the first time users forum....maybe someone should repost the rules and guidelines. I'm sure that the mod's have enough to do than to babysit children here on the boards...however, it seems that some decide for themselves that personal comments, negative in this nature are okay...well, I say...if you cant say anything nice, shuddup!....really- it's hard to be "funny" on boards (unless your delswife) but we need to remember, that...put "I dont mean to offend, or...My thoughts are...etc.. so that people dont think your attacking them!

3. NO FIGHTING: Several Internet news groups are marred by the actions of a few selfish people who turn an otherwise positive forum into a soap box for their anger issues. Internet newsgroups are not moderated, and therefore, anything goes. These boards are moderated in an effort to keep the discussions appropriate to the topic at hand. Those who feel they can not abide by these rules are welcome to read the posts on the board, and respond via email to the person who posted the message. Messages that are argumentative or sarcastic in nature will be deleted without discussion

I agree- someone got stupid on I thread I started. At least the nice people here are WAY more than the weenies! :)

I think things have been a little testy on this board of late. You might find the folks on the Debate Board more receptive.

That is the one thing I DISlike on the DIS. Posters who post only to be negative towards the original poster. Opinions posted, are what the DIS is all about. IMHO, negativity has no place on the DIS. AND what really confuses me, is if they think the questions or topics are SOO stupid or silly, why do they BUMP by replying?

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

Call me brain dead but I don't pick up on anything, maybe because I take this for what it is, a computer board and nothing more, I read and move on, if I want to reply I do if not I just keep going. :D

The Debate Board is often a bubbling cauldron of personal attacks - tread lightly over there.;)

By the way, I thought it was an interesting topic too.:D

Chub, you just ask away.. In my opinion, your questions are relevant and thought provoking. Some might argue that they belong on the Debate Board, but who wants to jump in the middle of all that brouhaha. So stay here, and post whatever you want.

Of course...just for laughs, do a search on the threads your "attackers" have started... Pretty banal questions...

Oh I know. I've been there and done that. At least on that board it is to be expected though.

Hang in there, Chub. There are some people who just have to cut others down whenever they get the opportunity.

My advice is to stay away from the Debate Board. It's a jungle over there.

I thought it was an interesting question. I would live in fear if I ever lied on a resume:eek: (If I did think this was a silly or stupid question, I would just ignore it.)

Aw ignore it, Chubroach. I've never really paid that much attention to people like that in the first place. Concentrate on the many wonderful replies instead of the one or two negative ones and you'll do allright. :yo-yo:

I had noticed this also, but thought perhaps it was just my perception.

edited to add that I agree, it was an interesting thread.

A very good recommendation that is, Bruce/Mary. Peace, my friend. FWIW, I thought the resume question was a good one.

Sorry that happened.:( I for one do not agree with personal attacks here..it just is not necessary.

Ok, this is not a personal 'attack', just an observation... The threads that you have posted have all been interesting, thought proking questions about lots of 'life situations'. Exactly like you said - you read about something and wanted to get our 'opinions'.

The problem is with so many questions on 'questionable' subjects there is the tendendency to think 'troll', trying to provoke a response (which you have gotten). When Dan Murphy, the normal stoic person with lots to say about a myriad of different topics thinks you are possibly under an alias or some such - he's reflecting what other users could be thinking.

I did a quick search on your threads and every single one of your threads is a 'question'. Theres not a single thread about your favorite Disney character, or a favorite ride, or the eternal Disney vs Universal debate. Now, I'm not saying that you have to be a Disney freak to be on the board, it's just that it's unusual for there to be really no reference at all to Disney in some way, even if it were to complain about the paint or poor service.

I'm not one to judge as some people might want to, so it really doesn't matter to me. After all it's just one more voice added to the din of thousands heard daily on this board that I barely hear because of the immensity of it all.

A couple of times, you've replied to negative postings saying "keep to yourself" and likewise. But again, you are perpetuating it again. There are going to be nitpickers here on the DIS boards the same that you will find in RL. Understand that... and just move on thinking to yourself "Wow, some people just don't get it, do they?"

Uh, oh. Long Post. Pop Daddy will be upset.

And hopefully, my asking whether I am talking to either Bruce or Mary is not considered by you, CR, as a personal attack. I usually do like to know who I am having a conversation with, tough as it can be when 2 people share one screen name. And I must say, there are several like that here on the boards, but usually one or the other folks 'behind the name' identify which it happens to be at the time. Totally fine to share a name, just me, I guess, liking to know which of the two parties to a name I am talking to. As said by several on this thread, many of your questions have been deep. I say, keep asking.

PS: Jeff, I am stoic???
