My mom made a huge batch of persimmon pudding this morning and brought a dish to my boss, who absolutely loves the stuff. I think he wanted to cry or do a little jig like a drunken Irishman, he was so happy. I can't imagine why -- the stuff tastes like mush. Is this a regional thing (my folks are Kentucky transplants from Central Indiana). My dad and bro like it, but I've yet to meet a woman who enjoys it...

Anyone else like it?

You are talking about the persimmon pudding that's baked right? I made one last year or the year before, took it to work, and they all just loved it...of course, work people are scavengers. I don't care where you work, they just are! Bring in something homemade and it's gone in a flash... I seem to recall it being buttery and...moist?

I am always on the search for good persimmon recipes...

Yep. It's baked. And you're right about the work wolves... you could bring dog food rolled in dirty diapers and they'd eat it!

We put whipped cream on top of the persimmon pudding. It's best eaten chilled.

While I never ate or heard of persimmon pudding, I do love a good, ripe one. I saw this recipe on tv the other day and I'm testing it out. You get several extremely ripe persimmons (real mushy ones) and peel the skin off. This was a pain to do as they were so ripe, the knife kept slipping. Then you put them in the freezer for several hours or overnight. Before serving, take them out to thaw slightly and they're supposed to be like a persimmon sorbet. Hopefully, there'll be nice and refreshing after a fulling meal.

My grandmother used to make jelly with persimmons and wow was it good. I've never had pudding though. I remember being little and my grandmother would load me up in the car and we would go to the Persimmon Trees or Bushes or whatever. I seem to remember trees.

My grandmother made the BEST persimmon pudding. Oh how I miss it. She had a persimmon tree in her back yard so they were always VERY fresh.

I find that people either love or hate persimmons.. I fall into the latter camp.
