How do you guy perserve your memories of disney? Ive made tons of scrapbooks from other vacations but the thing is they barley ever get looked at. any ideas for holding paper souvineers, picutres, you know....

During every travel trip my kids pluck me a flower or 2 from our hotel or a park. I save them in a napkin and press them in a book for our trip home. When we get home & after they mostly dry out I put them in a nice picture frame with some nice heavy paper from Michaels as a background. I save them and hang them on my walls in groupings with a note on the back naming the year, place & who picked it for me :sunny:

I put my pictures into a PowerPoint slide show...add appropriate Disney music to the background, so it plays while the show goes. Add memorable text information ("Kelly's first time meeting Pooh!" or "Cammie told Aurora 'I want to be you when I grow up'") etc. My kids ask to watch the slideshows at least once a week.

It actually takes very little time to do one of these....WAY less time than scrapbooking! I can do a whole slideshow in the time it takes me to do ONE good page. If you have never used PowerPoint, it is REALLY easy...don't be afraid of it!

Best thing? You can make as many copies as you need to (in case your CD gets scratched or broken, etc.) and it takes up literally no space!

That simmlar to digital scrapbooking. That would actully be fun. I am horibally addicted to Power Point (ask my proffesser who threated to fail me if i brought another one.)
Thats a wonderful idea. It would A) save me the 90 bucks I would end up spending in the scaping store, B) give me one heck of a gift for my baby sister whos going too C) give me a quick way to share D) Keep me from ending up with another scrapbook.
What do you do with your paper photos once you have them on the computer? Or do just get the cd? Any reccomendations on how to make this work best? I'm so excited about this now. Thank you so much

I do something similar to the powerpoint thing. But, I make my picture slideshow on Window's Movie Maker. (I think it's on most computers now days) It has a lot of neat transitions to choose from between pictures. And you can also add in video. You can still make titles/credits before and after your show and you can put text on the pictures too. Then I burn it onto a DVD to play whenever we want. And create a cute DVD cover with a picture or 2 from our trip. FUN, FUN FUN!! And DVD's take up a lot less space than my scrapbooks! :thumbsup2

see I would have to get photos on a cd to do this since my digital camera is unelyable (sp) since its a battery sucker.
Edit:
How do you use movie maker? Its being such a MONKEY for me.

Are your scrapbooks readily accessible? Are people afraid to touch them b/c they are "artsy"? Our scrapbooks get looked at ALL the time, it's DDs favorite thing to do whenever they start missing Disney.

the other thing I've done is to make a calendar with our favorite pictures, so each month we get a fresh look. There are blank 12x12 and 8x8s available for that. I like the 12x12 /c at the end of the year, I can just put it in an album and it's pre-scrapped.

I've also done pages that I put in a 12x12 shadow box frame, so I can display, then rotate them into the scrapbook.

I would NEVER depend on digital preservation. It has it's place, but sitting down, turning the page and reading the hand-written word is SO important.

see I dont have space to have them out. Right now there living in our back hall closet. See for me, I would love to do a digital ablum BUT I would also get printed copies of the photos and put them in a ablum.

I actually have paper photos, too. I keep these in a more traditional photo album...and yes, the kids love to page through them. AND, I don't really have to worry if they get handled too roughlyor anything because they are just "regular" ol' photo albums...no really special work went into making them or anything.

For our trip from May, I haven't ordered (or printed) any paper photos yet...just done the digital way right now. I am on the fence between continuing to do it both ways, or just abandon the books and stay digital. My feeling right now is that I can always go back and make the books any time I want/need to. I have all of the digital photos neatly organized on my hard drive and backed up several places as well.

I have pictures in individual frames all over my house. I keep my photo albums in a basket in front of the entertainment center for family to pick up and look through. I've found though that the best way to preserve memories is to share stories and memories of WDW with family!

When you open it go to FILE then NEW. In the left column click IMPORT PICTURES. Then all you do is click and drag the pictures to the timeline at the bottom. You can arrange them in any order. The left column has everything you need such as adding text or "transitions" (like fading in and out) between pictures by dragging the one's you want to the timeline in between the pictures.

To add music, click IMPORT AUDIO OR MUSIC and add the song you want. Click and drag it down to the "time line". **TIP** Just above the timeline there is a button that is called "Show timeline" or "Show Storyboard" you can toggle between these 2 to adjust the pictures and music the way you want.

This is where it gets tricky....When you want to save it to DVD you have to go to FILE then SAVE MOVIE FILE. You will have to select SAVE TO COMPUTER. Then choose a folder you want to save it in. THEN on the next page "movie setting" choose OTHER SETTINGS then scroll down and choose HIGH QUALITY VIDEO. Once you save this file, you will need another program to burn it to a DVD properly. The one I have is SONIC DVD. (it came free with a DVD burner I bought) Anyway, the point is that you will need a DVD burning program that will open a "windows movie maker" file. Your computer may already have one on it. Bring your file into there and then burn to DVD.

**If you don't have burning software that will work with windows movie maker you can check the SONIC website, they may have a free trial so that you can see if you like doing it before you purchase it.

Hope this all made sense. :)

I still have printed photos for regular photo albums as well as scrapbooks. I'm behind on my scrapbooking ever since hurricane Rita. Digital has saved me! Hopefully in the coming year I will be able to get back to my "hands on" scrapbooking as the room I use for this is FINALLY finished. :cool1:

What about making a collage out of you pictures in a huge frame? My cousin has a poster sized frame with different pictures of her daughter. It is very cute.

See for me, doing a collge would mean finding a place to hang it. I have a police and fire collages so it makes things a challange.

In the past, I have seen places on the internet or through the mail to make calendars. This is a good idea for family Christmas presents. Any ideas where I can find these or how I can make them myself? Thanks!

Kinkos.com has one that we have done several times. Also, pretty much any of the photo sites... snapfish.com, walmart.com and so on.
