Permit Filed: "Project M" at Hollywood Studios (Replacing GMR?)

Tbh if they changed tower I'd stop riding it. Especially if it was guardians (although that rumors kinda faded away)

Since they currently have no access to major Marvel IPs at WDW, I think it makes more sense to do GoTG way BIG here, and an overlay is not BIG. I think DCA Tower of Guardians can lead right into Marvel expansion behind it.

Great time to be a Disney fan.. Let's all stop complaining and be excited for something new... Everyone complained about how Disney wasn't doing anything and now people complain about what they are finally doing... Can't have it both ways, folks! Can't wait until D23!

Is 2 years considered a "short time
frame"? Seems like plenty of time
for construction. Unless plans aren't
drawn before the permits are filed. Have no idea how the process works.

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed...but everyone is gonna miss the movie ride when it's gone...

Actually there's a lot of charm in the "golden age" Hollywood period that was installed in mgm...like tower of terror...it's part of the park atmosphere and it will be missed when the days come.

Careful what you wish for...

I just want to know WTH the new theme is going to be! At least AK and MK have a cohesive thing. Epcot used to and could again; its not nearly as diluted.

Frozen overlay was 20 months and that building/ride is less than half the size of GMR.

If you look at an existing "big" ride that was gutted/dismantled and replaces with another ride ...
Horizons to Mission Space and that took 4.75 years but they also built a new building.
So only a personal guess, it they want a legit ride in there between demo & build ... 3 years.
And I only go that low because it is completely inside and not impacted by weather.

Disney ... PROVE ME WRONG ... build an all new cool ride in 2 years, I dare you! :D

If they have any urgency I believe they could do it in two

They could change the GMR so all of the movies profiled are Disney IP. That is a lot of material and it would keep the studio theme.

I could see the great mickey ride being done within 2 years if most of it has already been built off site.

Doesn't need to be an incredibly detailed ride but it needs to impress.

Also if it's just going to be mickey, they need a lot of mickey content to fill that large ride. Walt I imagine will be a large part of the ride too.

I agree with you 100%, but it looks like they're looking to move away from the studio theme

Do the letters always stand for something? Or are they just simple place holders?

Usually they stand for something, but it's usually something vague. Star Wars Land is project 'D' which stand for Delos which was the name of the company that operated the theme park in the movie and TV series Westworld. Toy Story Land is 'A' for Ascott which I assume is a reference to Ken in Toy Story 3.

My take on this...

- 555 Stage Lane is the address of the GMR building, but also includes things like the Buzz and Woody M&G that's in Pixar Place.
- The contractor Hoar construction does big projects and they are not involved with either Star Wars Land or Toy Story Land
- The permit refers to "Package 1" which indicates a large project being handed out to smaller sub contractors.
- Expiration date 10/31/2019 doesn't align with the dates on the Star Wars Land or Toy Story Land permits.

I am leaning towards this being the Mickey Ride.

I don't see a WHOLE NEW ride in 2 years unless it's already built somewhere else. I see overlay.

I liked the Soarin' one. Project 87. Because there are 87 seats in the theaters.

project M, huh?

jokes aside, yeah, this is probably the mickey ride. on my last trip, i went on the great movie ride, and they were giving out stopwatches to people in line to measure how long they waited--gauging its popularity, maybe? i think they've decided mickey would be the best option. they're definitely going to keep the chinese theater facade because of how iconic it is, but if they completely revamp the ride itself i think that'd be neat. they could tie it in to the history of movies by having it be a history of mickey mouse cartoons, even! plus it's a nice transition from pixar place/toy story land to the animation courtyard, though that part's in need of a refresh sometime soon

I SO agree with you! It would help us, fans, to gain a better understanding of what the overall vision is for the park.

I will miss it. But I think they would have to update some of those movies. I would even be fine if they were all Disney movies. Too many are obscure to younger, even I who know them all could care less anymore.

I am not at all excited for a Mickey overlay. I mean it would be as we say in our house a "Tom Cruise" ride. Unless he has on makeup, Cruise just plays himself in every movie, no variation. You can change the sets all you want it will be one LONG ride of Mickey over and over again. Now if they are gutting it, putting a real ride (not tram crawl) in there, maybe. But given the short time frame I think we are getting a snooze. It all started with a mouse but it's not the mouse that carries it. I'll take your flames on that one .....

Best rumors I've seen, which I don't believe, Monster Inc "land" which can go deep in and connect with RnR aka Monster Inc Door Coaster .... just a little backstage to move but it could work. RnR is apart from Sunset, take out those bathrooms and easy walk that direction. But then again Playhouse Disney (such a temp feel), LM was always supposed to be temporary although I love the stage (Moana please), Walt's Dream .... I think the whole chunk is at risk when the other lands open.

I only wish they weren't so narrow minded with this TSL. WHY didn't they continue with Pixar Place? They could have mixed and matched TSL right up through Animation Courtyard some of Disney's best movies ever. Incredibles? Cars? Monster's Inc. TS all fit. Some of the other biggies fit in other parks.

Could they do it like you are Mickey and you go through all his greatest hits (Plane Crazy, steamboat willie, fantasia, Mickey and the beanstalk, etc)? This way more about the setting and scenery and going from B&W to color to 3D, etc

I thought no the vision is putting you in a setting and making you part of that world. So you are in the golden age of Hollywood, you are in the backyard as a toy, you are on that planet in Star Wars Land, etc - so, I guess "immersion"

So IN THE MOVIES. I like that. But there needs to be more changes.

In that case I think they need to do away with the live shows and create a more immersive experience for those movies.

And some eateries work well whether you are an actor, watching a movie, going back in TV time ....
