Permit Filed: "Project M" at Hollywood Studios (Replacing GMR?)

I have to echo what has been said before, and something I've mentioned several times. I am failing to see Disney's logic in closing/re-purposing a popular attraction that will be a net neutral in terms of things to do...at a park that is lacking enough things to do. There are plenty of other places this Mickey attraction could go (Magic of Disney animation).

It's usually just as simple as this:
Repurposing allows them to take older systems with maintenance off line, provides a "draw" they can market, and allows them to do both without adding a single employee.

...they have been very loathe to add employees since AK opened. There isn't the labor pool they need.

I understand why re-purposing is effective in a general sense, and at most other parks I wouldn't see a problem. But in the context of DHS it seems like a poor decision. I also love the GMR so my biases are likely coming through.

No I hear you...I'm usually leading this mob with a pitchfork and a torch...

They just still aren't ready to fully break the feeder park concept and go full out.

We all like Mickey Mouse...that's a safe bet...but the problem with the old mgm criticism "there's not enough for kids" Is that there isn't enough for adults either. It is a little robbing Paul to pay ringo.

But here's my thought: are they assuming Star Wars is gonna be for the older Market? I'm not convinced of that at all...

Are there any mechanical issues with GMR? Has it been fairly reliable? I can see the mickey thing being more of an overlay, moving towards celebrating Disney animated movies. Leave the mechanics in place and move along. In a general sense it could be a fairly quick hit, it would be a good tie in to what will be current in the park for 2018.

Great time to be a Disney fan.. Let's all stop complaining and be excited for something new... Everyone complained about how Disney wasn't doing anything and now people complain about what they are finally doing... Can't have it both ways, folks! Can't wait until D23!
There's a big difference in doing stuff but taking away things to do that vs actually adding on things without removing stuff.

As a general statement people tend to complain less when they get new attractions without sacrificing already existing attractions.

Well it isn't exactly popular to everyone.

Now I am not familiar with Insider but this popped up last week.

Just about every amusement park has a better coaster than WDW, none have anything like GMR.

I love coasters, been a member of ACE, ridden over 130 different coasters, if I want a vacation to ride coasters, it would be to Ohio not Florida.

That is why I don't understand lists like this, you put a mine train that would be the 13th best coaster at Cedar Point or 11th best at Kings Island and say that is better than everything unique to Disney, then why even go to Disney.

I'm a movie geek, and as much as I hate to see GMR go, I think it's best for the park. Having TSL with Slinkey Dog, Spinners, and TSM combined with the Mickey ride will help spread crowds around. Makes it more of an all-around park with areas for kids of all ages. Once TSL, Great Mickey Ride, and SWL open it will surpass Epcot for me.

I cannot imagine them shutting down GMR before TSL opens, but the notice of commencement wouldn't have been filed if work wasn't to start within a month or so. Not to get sidetracked, but I do find it interesting that both GMR and Energy Adventure will be re-purposed soon. Both rides have similar vehicles and they attractions themselves take up a good amount of time (18-20 min for GMR and 40-45 min for EA).
