As a renter, most of the DVC perks will not be available to you. At this time, there is a problem with the PhotoPass pre-order coupon for DVC reservations, so it is not clear if the member you rented from will get an email code to pass on to you. It's possible you'll get free internet access, but this is really for DVC members staying on points, not renters. Most other discounts require the blue DVC member card to verify eligibility.
Most of the perks that are offered to DVC members require that our membership card is shown in order to receive the discount. As a renter, you won't have a membership card, so you won't qualify for the perks.
Oh Well - I guess the person renting to us did not know that because she said there would be perks even as renters - she mentined the book being in the room when we get there. Anyways we are just lucky and happy to be going so - Hakuna Matata!

The "Perks" you will be able to enjoy would be those that are available to any resort guest at WDW. Sending packages back to the resort from the parks would be one example.
Perks that are available only to DVC Members will not be available to you. A discount on AP's would be an example of that. As it is, some valued DVC Member perks have been discontinued for members. More and more, you are required to show you Blue DVC Member card to take advantage of existing perks. Sorry you were misinformed...
