Perfect month to go?

Just went in February, and thought it was the best weather ever! Perfect time for a vacation :) . Avoid President's Day week, if possible, though.

I was there the last week in February 2008, and the temperature was in the 50's! In 2006, I went first week in March, and the weather was absolutely perfect.

If school is not a factor-having been on trips multiple times and being from Ohio where winters can get pretty cold also, we prefer week after Thanksgiving week and then late Jan to early Feb. I hate going to the parks when it is hot and humid-the sun and sweating wear me out and I feel miserable. I would rather have it colder and less crowded. When we go we pack mostly shorts but also 2 pairs of pants and a sweatshirt/light jackets. So far we have had days where it was in low to mid 70's and great shorts weather for us and then days in the high 50's -60's. It is still warmer than 10-15 degrees that is Ohio weather and no snow! The hotel pools are heated so swimming is just cold getting out.

We are going Nov 22-Nov 28. The Saturday before Thanksgiving and leaving the day after Thanksgiving.

We have a few questions that maybe you guys can help answer for us

1) Will we be able see Christmas with the Osbornes?
2) Can DD go swimming at POP when we go; she wants to swim in the bowling pin?
3) How are the crowds? We were able to get all or TS Meals that we wanted around 5:45-6:00 each night we are there.
4)We are staying at POP but if we want can we go over to Wilderness and enjoy the roasting the marshmallows?:moped:

We are going Oct.19-26th. It shouldn't as hot then as the first part of Oct. and hurricane season should be pretty much over. The crowds are supposed to be pretty low as well. MNSSHP and the food and wine festival will also be going on during this time. Good luck with your decision! No matter when you decide to go, I'm sure you'll have an incredible time!

We went last year in May and then several years before that in May. Both times we were there for Mother's Day, which I think is the perfect way to spend it! We were there last year for 8 days and never saw a drop of rain. The weather was perfect, warm days and some were even hot which is great if you plan to attend a water park. Most nights we wore sweatshirts. The lines at the parks were not bad at all. We never waited for a bus. A lot of people don't believe in taking the children out of school for a vacation but my feeling is what the heck, it is only one week, it is not every year. My kids are very good students so it has never been a problem (we've only done it twice). I have no desire to go during a school vacation when the crowds are the worst and the rates are higher. Anyway, May (in my opinion) is a great time to go!

In past years The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at MGM ususally started around Thanksgiving, but the rumor here on the DIS is that they may start them later this year and I have not seen any firm dates yet. I'm sure someone will correct me if this info is wrong.

All of the poolin at WDW are heated so it shouldn't be a problem. There is that occasional cold snap though!

I am sorry to say that it will be very, very crowded - one of the most busy times of year just right behind Christmas, Easter and 4th of July weeks. You will just have to get to the parks early and make good use of those fastpasses.

As far as I know anyone can join in at the campfire festivities at Ft. Wilderness.

Hope this info helps!

In 2005 we went the week after Thanksgiving and it was the best trip we ever had! The crowds were low, the weather was sunny, mid 70's and the Christmas decorations and atmosphere was incredible. We are going this year December 12 - 21, hoping for another great trip!

May is great, however, I think this is the last time for a while we are able to go. I am so sad over this. My son is starting kindergarten this year, and well it is not wise to take them out of school any more. So we aer planning to go next year on June 9th(parents anniversary) so wish us luck.

Our favorite time is the first week in November, though the first week in December is a close second. For both times of the year, the Christmas decorations are up, or being put up (in the case of early Nov), you can usually catch a MVMCP, crowds and wait times are small, and weather is not too hot.

These are the times I have found to be less crazy --

- January - early February - avoiding the MLK and President's day holidays. In early February, it was a little too cold to swim (for me), but there were plenty of folks doing it. Nice touring weather.

May - especially early in the month.

June - early in the month, but getting more busy

August - late in the month, but hurricanes are a threat :guilty:

November - avoiding the holiday, but the Food & Wine Festival is busy; it was very humid when we went in early November a few years back, but the Osborne lights were up at MGM!

December - early December used to be the best time. We were there last year and the crowds were horrendous. Hopefully, it was a fluke! :scared1:

We have been there the last two Decembers, second week and mostly walked on rides....I can recall going during Spring Break and waiting in line for hours. What was horrendous about the lines in early December?

The best time to go to WDW would be from January 1 through December 31.:rotfl:

We're taking our first family trip (two adults, two teens, two toddlers!) sometime after December (when we have available vacation time!). We were thinking of the first week in January (the week of the 6th) but now I'm concerned that kids may still be out of school on winter break... and we WANT to go when everyone's in school and crowds are low!

Am I right in thinking the second full week of January or later is better?

I'm so glad I ran into this thread b/c I've been trying to figure out when to take our first family vacation to Disney! I grew up 90min from there and as a kid i went 3-4 times a year. Last time I went was 2001 (pre-kids) and we went first week in Dec and it was WONDERFUL! We were able to swim in the heated pools without being too cold and there were NO crowds. No lines at all! It was awsome! So we are planning to do it again with the kids this time. They will be 2 1/2 and 4 at the time.

For those who've been in early DEC..what type of weather did you run into?? How did you pack?

melanie

we're trying december for the first time

hoping it will be cooler (than our usual september and october trips during F&W - add the daily rain, lovebugs and oppressive humidity, i've got to believe december has to be better!)
