Perfect example of why DVC is WONDERFUL

I like to sit and run numbers to make myself feel better about my DVC purchase. I bought a loaded contract resale in June. It had around 170 banked points plus that years 250 points on it (already paid for). So these points were essentially free for me. I just ran the numbers of my trip to BWV at Christmas, 8 nights in May at Vero/AKV, a 6 nt AKV trip I setup for a coworker, 5 nts in Dec at the THV, and 2 nts at SSR. These haven't all been taken but they are already setup. If I had purchased these directly from Disney, it would have set me back......$10,750 :scared1: :scared1: I would never had such wonderful vacations planned without DVC. It's things like this that reinforce that I made the correct decision, and this is only year 1 for me! So, when people get upset about point reallocation, waitlists, etc...just realize what your wonderful vacations would have cost without DVC. I'm sitting at work grinning about how wonderful this has been. And this is just a dollar amount, this doesn't include the happiness of helping my coworker, helping my brother get a SSR room last minute, or bringing my family to THV this December. Just thought I'd share and anyone else feel free to post the savings you've had!

Woo hoo for you:thumbsup2 You have to feel great.:)
When we talk to people about DVC, all they say is "just another time share". We explain to them that it isn't, but they just don't get it. Oh well, it is there loss.

Yay!! I feel the same way! Our first contract was only 150 points and had 150 banked - we haven't even used all of those (bought a year ago) and are allready biding on a second 100 point contract. Since we bought we have had 2 week long trips, and 2 5 day trips in the hole. NEVER would we do this on a normal basis!!

Yep! I had similar thoughts yesterday. In January I took my parents and two adult children. Without DVC we WOULD have stayed at CR, and if my DH had gone, too, I'm not sure where we would have ended up...probably in a DVC villa. Certainly not two rooms at CR.:scared1: My other DD just spent 5 nights in a studio at SSR on our collective points. DH and I are going to AKV in September. Adding that up (conservatively)...$3000 for January + $2000 for February + $2500 for Sept. = $7500 more or less.:scared1: We're WELL on our way to break-even! There will probably be a trip next January, too...we're in a rutt, but it's a nice one.;):thumbsup2

My parents RAVED about the room, and they've only stayed at CR with me!

We took family back in June and put up 10 people between 2 2-bdrms. Cost through Disney: $8400. Cost to us: priceless....

Great Thread! Bought through resales in 2000, 210 points w/ 210 banked and then immediately borrowed an additional 100 and had our first family reunion, an entire week in an OKW Grand Villa. What a way to kick off DVC. I could never have afforded this type of accomodations, and the fact that I could share it with my friends and family was fabulous.

...and the fun continues till 2042

OK, I just punched in the next two trips I have coming up with DVC. A 3 night stay at Kidani in May and a 5 night stay at THV in August. Total cash ressie would have cost $4585. Last August I purchased a 120 point contract for $80 per point that had all 08 & 09 points in it (I paid 09 fees). So, essentially between those two trips I have gotten almost 50% of my cost back.

Kidani sav. view room = $450
THV = $545

We just bought last year - one contract from Disney, one resale. We got developers points from Disney and a fully loaded contract with banked points resale.

We've taken one trip so far that was 6 nights in a 2 bedroom villa at SSR using up all developer points plus a small number of the resale banked points. Approximate value if we'd paid cash for the room - $3800.

We've got a second trip (also in 2 bedroom villas) booked for this October during food and wine, 4 nights Boardwalk view at BWV, 2 nights savannah view at AKV. ~ $5400.

So this year, we'd have spent ~$9200... except that we'd probably have managed to find some sort of promo to save some of that. On the other hand, we got the discounts on the annual passes, the discounts on the golf, a couple of additional restaurant discounts, and the ability to buy the TiW card because of the annual passes. That probably more than makes up for any discounts we'd have found on rooms.

We won't even have used up all our 2008 points with all these stays because we started with double points the first year, so we'll be able to do about that many nights next year, too. Or we can try to get into one of the higher point resorts (like BLT) if we're just dying to use up all points for the year in a single trip. :thumbsup2

We stayed for 10 days at AKV 2 bdrm savannah view. summer time.
Next year we will be there for 6 nights with a grandvilla, 2 bed sav view and studio sav view. not sure how much it would all cost (heard 2 bdrm sav view was around 900 a night. not sure) but it wouldn't be in my price range so i am soo thankful for DVC. And next year all of my family will be too. lol.

agree we love DVC...just booked our second DVC trip to BCV in Sept, we would not be staying in a2 br if I were paying cash outright, the other nice thing is that parents can go for very little cash

We were contemplating adding on 12/31 onto our 1/1-1/6 reservation at the THV. MS says they are sold out, so I checked thru CRO.

According to the website, one night during that week is $900. Even divided among all 9 of us, that is $100/night/person. Not sure I am willing to spend that much. Gotta love DVC. So they are valuing points at approx. $20/pt.

Cash price for last 2 vacations, 6 days BWV 4 days OKW and upcoming 7 days @BWV would $8650. If we were doing a regular stay (before DVC) would be bout half that for rooms at Moderate rate. I know NO Comparison...:rotfl2:
When we bought our resell contract came with 210 banked points so we got 2.5 vacations w/o having to pay for the DVC room.

This thread just makes me smile to read. It is really uplifting during a stressful day to read how everyone is enjoying DVC so much.

We purchased from Disney late last year and received matching developer points. We have already had one stay in January and are planning two more later this year. The total cost would be ~$5,400. This equates to two year's worth of vacations just this year alone (dividing by our payment amount). We would have never shelled out that much cash in one year for vacations, and we will bank 130 points into next year. Makes me feel all warm and toasty inside. :goodvibes

We couldn't be happier with our DVC membership. There are 12 of us and we usually get a GV for a week. At 1745 and tax, we sure couldn't do this without DVC. A great buy and a wonderful family time. We have so many memories that I wouldn't trade for a million. There is certainly no better place to take a family for vacation. I should know, we have been going every year since 1992 and have been members since 1994! I went my first time when I was pregnant with my daughter and she is 35 now so it has been many years of great times. Now I get to see the excitment on my grandchildrens faces and the joy just keeps coming!!!

We are going in June for 5 nights at AKV. DH has never stayed there so this will be his "initiation" trip. Then, next April, we are taking my parents for a stay at AKV...2 nights at Jambo and 3 at Kidani. If we paid cash through Disney, these two trips would total almost $8000! Since we only paid $9200 for our contract, we're almost even already. That will be after just two trips with DVC points of our own!

Plus the flexiblity!!! Two weeks ago I spent 2 nights at VB on the spur of the moment trip (planned 1 month in advanced) for 22 points!!!!

It would have cost me $800 -- MF for 22 points is $110 apprx. which I already paid.

My upcoming trip in a 1 bedroom at Easter at the BW $4400 retail. I only paid$937 for MF!!

Oh!! and I get to do it again next year!!! That to me is the BEST part!!

For our upcoming trip in August we have 5 nights booked in a 1BR concierge villa. On the WDW site the rate is $735/night! We also have 3 nights at BLT-MKview which would be $510.00/night. Don't forget to add the tax ;) . The total would be $5855 for the 8 night trip. It will only take one more trip for us to be past the "break even" mark :thumbsup2 ~!
