It is something I will never, ever understand. I have a niece (35) and a nephew (39) I see on Facebook bragging about how much they drink...how drunk they are...where they are going to get drunk..and on and on. I just don't get it. The other morning my niece was happy that she got home without getting a DUI - I wanted to reach through the screen and smack her! I don't have a close relationship with her and my sister is non-confrontational and says nothing to her "kids" and she does see what they write. I just don't get it - considering they grew up with an alcoholic father and saw what he put their mother through.

I don't get it either. How much fun is it to throw up, wake up with a migraine and not remember what you did the night before???? :confused3:confused3:confused3

I will never, ever understand how anyone can justify drinking and driving. I had a friend who used to do it every other weekend and I told him flat out I would stop being his friend if he did it again. He doesn't do it anymore. Yes, I know he could be lying but I like to believe that what I said to him had an impact on him.

Any chance they are just joking?

Last night Celebration had several power outages. We were all joking about not having enough ice for our drinks, or not being able to see the ones that fell down drunk.... nobody was actually drinking. We were just bored in the dark in our jammies with our smart phones!

at first was thinking that people who brag about being drunk deserve to have stuff drawn on them. But then the DUI without arrest and growing up with an alcoholic father sunk in, which made it a whole other level of not funny at all.

I've known so many people who copy their parents bad behavior that I can't even count any more. When something bad happens a kid has a choice, identify with the problem or identify with the people hurt and it seems to me most kids grow up thinking all the power lies with the troublemaker so that's where they head. Hence, the cycle continues generation, after generation, after generation... So sad & such a waste.

Ugh, this kind of thing makes me FURIOUS. Not much fires me up more than people who feel they can get behind the wheel after drinking. Completely selfish, stupid and irresponsible in EVERY way possible. I don't care if I would have to sleep on a streetcorner, I would never, ever, ever drive drunk.

My friends and family know better than to discuss their drunken escapades with me, now that my mom has suffered and ultimately died from liver failure. Hers wasn't from alcohol, but the end result (and the illness) was the same.

I don't get it either. I have one friend from college that makes posts in reference to how drunk she is or was. It makes her look stupid and pathetic. I don't get people who speKE Bout their intoxications publicly either. We're all grown ups now. College is over. Stop embarrassing yourself. (Cant say that TO her...but it is what is on my mind when people do that.)

I don't get it either. I drank socially when I was in college, and I have to admit I did get drunk quite a few times. But I pretty quickly learned that throwing up and suffering hangovers really wasn't very attractive. Plus, the killer migraines~oy!

We have alcoholism on both sides of the family and we have been very open about it with our children. They know they are at high risk for addiction. However, they are 24 & 17 now and just about old enough to decide for themselves whether they will drink or not. DS24 had 1 DUI about 2 years ago. We are a bit concerned about him because he drinks more than we think he should. However, we've only seen him drunk once, the night he got the DUI (had to pick him up.) There's not much we can do to influence his choices. without alienating him. When we were his age, our parents had ZERO effect on our drinking. But we both learned to limit it. I hope DS will do that too. I'd hate to see him become an alcoholic, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. He has untreated bipolar disorder and I think he probably self-medicates with alcohol. Pretty common with BP.
