People that work on Castaway Cay, where do they live?

An overnighter at CC would be awesome! maybe they could do campfires at night (keep away the bugs) - or family dance party on the island! Oh, the possibilties are endless!!!!!!!

This is really an interesting thread!

when we were docking at CC, the parasailing boats and glass bottom boats etc, are all buzzing around the ship. I asked our parasail first mate, Chris, and he said they live on a nearby island and pointed it out to us, not that far away at all. They hope for beautiful weather on the days the ships are supposed to dock... no docking,,, no excursions!!

Don't forget the Castaway Cat!!!

We saw him walking along the trail near Mt. Rustmore, just hanging out...he had part of his ear missing, if I remember correctly....I wonder if he commutes...;)

two-foxes, I saw the cat also when I was at Castaway Cay in August of 2002.
It was just sitting there on a path, it meowed at me so I stopped and talked to it for a few minutes.

I actually got to go behind the scenes on Castaway Cay. In 1999, I was the first one at the Adult beach, and when I went into the water, I stepped on a conch shell and punctured my foot. I had to go back to the ship and have the doctor check it out. On the way back, the island manager took me on his cart so I did not have to walk. I tried to buy water shoes so that I could walk on the beach, but they were out of anything bigger than a 9, and I am an 11.5! He took me back to his room and gave me his water shoes. Just another example of the Disney difference. He told me its all work on the island, and that the bugs prevent doing much at night.

Wow, living on CC sounds alittle like the "Survivor" show!!

We found out on our last cruise that all of the hair braiders, the banana boat drivers and quite a few others come by boat from Abaco Island. Our daughter was married on CC, and the administrator of the Bahamas (also a Baptist minister) was brought over by boat from Abaco.
Because of Hurricane Isabel, we went to CC 1st, then to Nassau, one of the reasons being that the Capt wanted to get the people who live on CC off the island before the hurricane hit.
We also found out that there have been times when school children from Abaco are allowed to take school "field trips" (I think I remember for science class) to Castaway Cay, and have spent the night there.

:earseek: Scott ... bummer about your foot BUT sooooooooooooo glad that the CM went the extra mile for you. That's why I like to cruise DCL ... it's the little things they do to make your cruise the best time possible.

Little sideline ... If anyone was following the sad story of "Nate Paige" ... seems a very king and thoughtful DIS'r had a picture of him when he was there over Christmas and took it up with him when he parasailed over the island. When he landed and got back to the ship he learned that poor Nate passed on to a berrer life ... that DIS'r got cleaned up and went back off the ship and took Nate's picture and did a little memorial and placed the picture in the sand near the Post Office so Nate could be a part of the island he had such a wonderful time on. GOD BLESS NATE AND HIS FAMILY. To many people, Castaway Cay is a little piece of what we would like heaven to be.

Hadn't heard about that. How nice.

Nate also went parasailing with me on January 9th...I had printed out his picture with the towel animal and kept it against my heart as I was gliding up there. I stopped by the post office to say hello to him.
Nate will live forever on Castaway Cay.

The picture of Nate was left by jgalecpa. You can read about it on page 17 of this thread.

The whole thread is about the passing of Nate, a little boy who had gotten a "Wishing Well" Wish to go on the Disney Cruise and the people whose lives he touched as his Mom sought information about the ship and reported on their cruise.

And the name of the island cat is "Tipper"! We have pictures of him, and have fed him (ribs) at Cookies!

Rae

We saw the "resident cat" (didn't know what his name was) and we were able to pet him and get pictures. I noticed he had a big chunk out of his ear too, wonder what caused it...

I don't know what bit him, but that's why he got the name "Tipper"!!! He is a sweet little thing, isn't he?!

Yes there are employees that live on Castaway Cay. While on the tram back from pelican plunge i saw the houses "mobile trailers." While at the observation tower i saw this big tree and looked unnatural. Anyway that is a cell tower and radar and probably the VOIP for the wave phones but right after there was a little driveway and like 10 trailers and 3 gators. ALSO A LITTLE FUN FACT: BEFORE DCL EXISTED THE ISLAND WAS LEASED FOR THE FILM SPLASH!!

Also I was told that on days when a ship comes in there are people that come over from islands close by to help.

Well, you folks would not be able to live here in Minnesota. Did you know the mosquito is our state bird? They have been known to carry off small children. LOL

My point being. . . . I can handle the bugs. Where do I sign up?

Haha, so true! Not to mention I would rather deal with the bugs than this -25 weather!
