QWhy does it say I have to pay credits to play?
AThe game now costs credits to play. But if you win you get more credits back.

And how do I know that someone is going to come up and post something like but it is still gambling. What ever, who cares its for fun and here is your answer.

It only is an excuse for their reasoning behind it... still doesn't answer why...

It is not gambling but in the sense that you think it is then so are all the games that give random codes and more so than the new pirates games.

Also it fails to say that even if you lose you get more credits than you spend to play. So no way it is gambling because you get more than you put in win or lose.

Twice when I played against computer boats I got less credits than I payed to play, but then again I lost the game.

As far as it being gambling its pretty much a matter of opinion. I guess if it really bothers people they just won't play. I suspect like everything else, eventually it will settle down. I feel like at this point we've been let down so many times with new items and games in vmk that we are a bit soured. :confused3

It is gambling. It says you get more If you win.

That is the exact same thing as sticking a quarter into a slot machine and pulling the handle/pushing the button. If you win, you typically get more back.
But if you lose, you're out.

That is gambling. Period.

I don't understand how you can't figure out that concept.

I tryed to stay away from this but I think this is another one of those topics that should be left alone everyone agree to disagree and if you have a problem with it don't play. I am not a fan o pay to play, but see no way of losing here. Also not a fan of gambling and see the arguement for it but don't think the game is gambling. For those of you that might have a problem with the gambling aspect, there are a few 800# out there for you to get help.

I have a bigger problem paying to play then get the DC so no payback.

ok since when does gambling pay you to lose?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but unless you share them in a polite manner this thread will be closed.

I honestly didn't mean to start this much controversy. I only wanted to keep everyone safe, because the game felt like gambling to me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Maybe it would be best if you did close these threads Mal, I think everyone has made their point.

The new game style reminds me of an arcade type game. Instead of tickets to cash in for a prize, it's credits. I think it's great that if you play well enough, you can still get credits when you lose!

Actually captain to some people it might not be fun. It's not fun for me because now we have to play to play a game, and earn credits. I used to play pirates for fun or earn credits -- but if you are trying to earn credits...why do we have to pay to play the game? Okay so I only have nine credits....((and no I'm not afraid to say I have nine credits)), and now I have to play other games besides pirates because you have to pay 21 credits! I dont understand why they did that :sad2:

Sorry, If I may have sounded rude.

Actually, I have played slot machines where you of course pay a certain amount to play.
But, when you "win", you win less than you paid out. So, you still get something back. Ultimately, you're still losing. If you paid 21 credits and got back only 7, then you lost 14.

So, it's still a form of gambling.

You are paying money to take a chance on getting more back than you put in.

And as some people have stated that they have gotten less than they had to pay, then I define that as gambling.

Now, if they could guarantee that we would always get more back than we pay out and if they could guarantee that we don't get disconneted while in the middle of the game, then it would not be gambling.

It is not gambling.

Just because something is pay to play does not mean it is gambling. I also have not played enough to know the prize structure, but from comments I have seen, it seems that you come out ahead in almost every scenerio and that is great!

Think of it as a carnival game!

WARNING: Rant below

I finally got in and was able to try the new pirates game. I really don't like it. I had to pay twelve credits, the team I played against totally crushed us (I'm quite good at the first pirates game), and I only made nine credits back.
from another thread.

This is gambling.

If we were guaranteed to get back more than we paid every time we played, and if they could keep us from disconnecting, then it would not be gambling.

:)

It states " The game now costs credits to play."

To me that sounds like a video game in an arcade which you pay to play for fun, only in this game you get a prize of credits for winning.

I don't think they consider arcades to be places of gambling. :confused3

Why is it pay to play, I have no idea, but I really like the new game. :thumbsup2

Well if it is gambling it is kids gambling because I made exactly 3281 credits today.

Alright, it can be viewed in a lot of ways, but carnival games are still a form of gambling. According to the Oxford Dictionary:

gamble |?gamb?l|
verb [ intrans. ] play games of chance for money; bet : she was fond of gambling on cards and horses.
• [ trans. ] bet (a sum of money) in such a way : he was gambling every penny he had on the spin of a wheel.
• figurative take risky action in the hope of a desired result : [with clause ] the British could only gamble that something would turn up.

noun [usu. in sing. ] an act of gambling; an enterprise undertaken or attempted with a risk of loss and a chance of profit or success.

That covers ye olde carnival, too. This covers a lot of ordinary life, too. But the problem people seem to be having with the VMK thing is the fact that you now have to pay, no matter if you win oodles of credits or not, to play a game. And it's a meager sum for most people, sure, but it nonetheless represents a sum of money being used in the hopes of receiving a larger sum in return, sort of like investment banking without the golden parachutists. And that, I think, might bother people more than the idea of gambling... the notion that now you have to pay admission to play a game which has been free for about a year, that seems ridiculous (to me, especially, but I find a lot of VMK ridiculous), and when you attach that unpleasant reality to the uncomfortable thought that gambling (gasp!) is going on within a Disney operation, well, that just tears it, doesn't it? All bets are off, so to speak. Really, though, the 21 credits seems so random and weird that perhaps that is the part of this debacle-in-the-making that rankles people so.

I certainly hope this was polite enough for everyone.
