People still making multiple reservations at same place

I held mutiple reservations until about 3 months out, when I finalized our plans.

The restaurants usually get booked up, so someone will eventually get the ressie when people with multiple reservations start canceling.

I don't see it as being rude at all, as long as you have the decency to cancel and not just no-show.

I think all that is left to say is WOW, what ever happened to having FUN on vacation? Don't get me wrong, I do love planning and ADR's are a huge part of that, but seriously people...

I can't speak for anyone else, but the last-minute schedule changes from 9 AM to 8 AM were pretty significant for us. We've heard repeatedly about the importance of rope drop, so making the morning schedule an hour earlier means making the evening schedule an hour earlier, so that the kids get adequate sleep, which meant changing dinner ADRs. I got lucky and was able to do so with a schedule I like. Had that not happened, I can easily see myself thinking that next time, I would schedule extra ADRs as a back-up plan.

I'm sorry, I just don't see how 1 hour is that significant. Your kids are in WDW, it's a bit unrealistic to think you can stay on such as strict schedule. You need to factor in unexpected delays, for whatever reasons, as well as their excitement, adrenaline levels. I do see so many people who push their young children beyond their limits at WDW, but there is a middle ground. Mid-day breaks can be a game changer!

we have two character breakfasts booked at chef mickey for my birthday trip, one at the beginning and one at the end of the week, and I have every intention of cancelling one. My sister has joint custody of my four year old niece and her ex hasn't decided yet if he'll trade weekends with her so they can go for four days as opposed to one. She's going to be the ONLY child there... So, yes I'm going to keep both of them until he decides to not be a jerk and at LEAST let us know if he's going to trade or not, and even then, probably for a while after that just to make sure he doesn't change his mind to ruin plans.

This is the first time we've EVER used an ADR. We've also never tried to get into any of the really wanted restaurants. I didn't realize there was a politeness protocol. I don't think that I would have booked multiple time spots on the same day though. The DBF is not a planner and honestly could probably eat at any time you ask him if he's hungry. So waiting to exactly 6:15 has never worked for us.

As much as i appreciate the parenting advice, my middle son is a challenge, and as his parent, I know what needs to happen to ensure that he is able to enjoy his vacation. He needs mid-day breaks, and we need to be sure there are 11 hours available between the end of one day and the start of the next. It's not a strict schedule. It's allowing room to be sure that he gets what he needs at night. I am factoring in the transportation, unexpected delays, and adrenaline, which is exactly why I am unwilling to have a meal 12 hours before we have to wake up. I'm not sure why that is difficult to understand. I know my child's limits. A meal time that worked previously was a gamble when the schedule changed by an hour, and I'm not gambling with my family vacation.

Prepared better by gaming the system. They put things in place so people don't have multiple ADR's for same day same meal and people use multiple emails and phones to work around it. I didn't start this to cause problems and I am very prepared unfortunately I also have a job and couldn't take the day BOG opened up off to call all morning. I tried for an hour before I left for work and at my lunch and there were no reservations for my week there. It does frustrate me when people talk about multiples of BOG share the magic people

But they do...when they cancel, whoever gets that ADR when they cancel it whether it is the next day, three months later, a week before, or 24hours before, someone else is thinking...SCORE I just got an ADR for X resturant that I have been trying to get for ages.

We dont make multiple ADRs unless we want to eat somewhere more than once but it is what it is so, if I cant get something the first time around, I keep checking back...eating at BOG or any other WDW restuarant is not going to make or break a vacation...it is a meal!

Ummmm...that is just so not true! The calendar is posted before the 180 mark and it includes fireworks, parades, hours, EMH...you name it. They may make some changes a month or so out...maybe adding an EXTRA F! or MSEP, but that's it. So there is zero reason to hoard ADRs for calendar purposes.

As for weather- do you really think any of us love braving the elements? Sorry, but that just screams of entitlement. It's rude to pad your ADRs just so you can avoid rain. It's FL and it rains sometimes...sometimes a lot. Ya know what we do when it rains??? We put on ponchos!

And seriously- if you look around on here- many of us are booking 180+10- i.e. we've also made that commitment 6+ months in advance, but based on the posts on this thread...quite a few of us are able to make ADRs without having to pad anything. :thumbsup2

I've been booking trips on the WDW site for YEARS and had never found the spot where one can see the schedules for fireworks, F!, parades, etc... until I saw your posting today that claimed it was there. By manipulating a few URL's, I was able to see it, but they don't make it easy to find! A few things I noticed, however, is that every schedule is "subject to change", and not every park and every day has populated schedules for everything. So, I stand by my earlier statement. If you want to be there at rope drop and the EMH's change, or you want to see F! and they add a second show, all are important "times subject to change".

On the subject of rain... Shall I put my assistance dog in his poncho as well? It's the height of arrogance for you to call me "rude" and "entitled" for booking an extra ADR to avoid going to AK in the rain.

In fact, it's incredibly rude of you to call anyone "entitled". If you consider the cost of a WDW vacation, which is decidedly in the "luxury" category, all of us who go to WDW are "entitled" in at least an economic way. I, personally, don't feel "entitled" to special treatment, and I don't ask for special treatment. I do, however, feel that I am "entitled" to plan my trip to maximize my enjoyment. I'm playing by the rules. I'm cancelling ADR's which I know I won't keep, even those that don't have a CC guarantee. If you think that's "rude", you're "entitled" to your (IMO, incorrect) opinion.

If you're able to book 2 or 3 ADR's a day for 6 people for 10 days on deluxe dining at the 180 day mark without ever changing them or ever having an overlapping reservation (even if only for a second), you must be a planning GOD. At the 180 day mark, we tried to do our preferred schedule and even then we found some restaurants reported zero availability because the schedules hadn't been loaded by Disney yet. Over the next months, as they loaded schedules, we were finally able to fill in the gaps and delete the "contingency" ADR's. If you have, as you claim, never even made a contingency ADR, you're the luckiest trip planner I've ever heard of or you aren't making many ADR's in the first place.

If an hour makes that much of a difference, then, IMO. it's a strict schedule. I was giving suggestions so you could better reserve your adrs without having multiples, I don't care how you parent your kids. Hope your hour earlier adr doesn't get delayed or you have slow service, or transportation issues. If the meal time before was a gamble, why even schedule it in the first place?

Huh? How is it "not easy to find"? You go to the calendar of hours and click on the day. It opens the daily schedule of parades and fireworks.

A little more difficult to find, but perhaps easier to use, is the TA calendar. The links to those aren't as readily accessible (because they are intended for use by travel agents and not necessarily the general public), but they are considered to be one of the most accurate calendars. The links can be found on Josh's site, easywdw.com. Below is a link to the page at easywdw.com. If you scroll down just a bit, you'll find the links to the TA calendars.

You're deliberately misreading.

I included buffers in the schedule to allow for delays for transportation and slow service. I scheduled mealtimes that were firmly within our needs.

Once the schedules changed, the extra hour made those mealtimes a gamble. If all went well, we would be okay, if we had transportation issues or slow service, we are no longer okay.

I do not want to gamble.

I am very happy for you that you cannot fathom that some children's needs are not as flexible as the typical child. But it seems to me you have disdain for those of us who have to deal with circumstances that make it impossible to be as flexible. I am planning the trip to best accommodate the unique needs of my group. Whether you approve or not, I will do my best to balance accommodating my family with consideration of others. For me, that may mean, in the future, having back up ADRs which I cancel as soon as I possibly can.

The people doing this will never get it. It's probably the same people that get in the 7 items or less express lane with a full cart Or the people that cut you off on the highway. They just don't care. I don't see how they even enjoy their vacations. If they are taking all this time to defend their actions then they know they are wrong to hog ressies. I don't even know why this bothers me. We booked all ours at 180 days even got BOG. All set to go. I'm not waiting or looking for anything. I guess it's just principal. Hope those waiting for those ressies being held hostage get them in time for your planning too.
