I'm just full of questions today! :teeth:

It seems like you hear a lot more about people wanting to move south, than you hear about people wanting to move north. The cost of housing in the Northeast is high, yet there seems to be no shortage of people buying houses and moving here. From what I gather, housing is much less expensive down south.

I know plenty of people who have moved, or want to move, south. Do you, or do you know of anyone, who really wants to move up north?

Actually you couldn't PAY ME to move down south. One day I even wrote down a whole list of reasons why. I don't know of many peopel around here who want to move south. I think most people I know are pretty content here in the Midwest.

I know of zero people who want to move to the northeast. Can't say that I blame them. I don't want to live here either.

The South is a great place to visit but no way do I want to live there.

I have a friend who graduated from UNC-chapel hill that is moving to new york to work in the stock exchange. He tells me that he loves NY and doesn't think he'll be back.

A girl I got my 1st undergrad with is moving to Vermont with her husband simply because they like the area. So I guess some are moving out of the south to go north, but it sure feels like there are a heck of a lot of northerners moving down here to me. But, I don't live north so I really don't know how many southerners you guys are getting

We went to an open house a couple months ago near by and the family was moving to northeast PA. There move was in jeopardy though because a couple weeks ago we noticied the same house having an open house again. We went inside to see if they'd lowered the price and they had by 30,000 and they still couldn't sell. I hope they found someone because they were not going to be able to close on their brand new house they built in PA without a contract on this one. The market has really slowed around here, good news for us, bad for sellers.

My brother is one of those that moved down South (GA) from MA over 2 years ago. He is now moving back up to MA next month.

I personally couldn't move down there. It was quite a shock to me seeing how many highway lanes there are down there. I can handle 2 and 3 lane highways, anymore than that no way. Maybe because I live in a small town it would be a big adjustment to me.

nope Im as far South and I ever want to be.

I would prefer to move further North but this will do ok.

Well coming from somone who has lived in the south for 20 yrs. there are ALOT of people from the north and Cali moving south. Do a little research and you will see which way people are moving. Oh and on a side note I don't care who joins us down here just don't tell us how much better they do things where you came from because if my southern manners are on the blink I may ask who invited you and did you know the road goes both directions!

I moved to FL, lasted almost 4yrs, and then moved right back to where i started from. I hated it!

Ditto here - My daughter and 10 of her friends have all moved to NYC within the last few years, most for jobs related to the stock market or investment banking. They were all graduates from UNC, Duke or Virginia. They tell me they're not planning on leaving either.

I made the move from NC to NYC myself 20 years ago and don't ever think of moving back.

You mean Seattle's filled up?

agnes!

Where I live in CT we have tons of people from NJ & NY buying up all the cottages. They don't live here year round, but they sure do take up a lot of space in our town all summer!!

Luvflorida, "When the Coast is Clear" by Buffett is my summer theme song. As much as I love the summer and the beach, I have to take deep breaths all summer long and remind myself they chose my town for a reason :)

i want to move back to the northeast! i would like to be closer to my family and i don't like the hot summers here. plus, there are a lot of places in the ne that are more rural - i want to get out of the city! most of these more suburban/rural places have much cheaper housing than where i live now!

So you guys are getting them too?
by the truck full

Its hard for anyone that has lived here a while to deal with a sudden influx of people ( not just from Ca from everywhere) One town ( a suburb of Boise) has grown from 9,000 people to over 60,000 in the last 5 years with another 25,000 expected in the next 2 years. Thats a LOT of growth for any community. Now I know it isnt just outsiders moving out there but we are definately feeling the strain.

:rotfl2: Isn't it the truth? Personally, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to live in the South. We've got everything but snow(and we can get ya some o' that!) The people are nice, you can grow just about anything, and need I say--FLORIDA BEACHES :smooth: Ya can't get that in NYC

The last couple of years before Katrina we had seen a huge influx of people relocating from Las Vegas, Atlantic City and other places up north. The casino industry was growing by leaps and bounds.

We relocated from Maryland in 1998 and I must say that I do not miss the traffic, snow or some of the rude behavior. All traffic around the Va., Md., DC area is horrible and I'm not talking about just the rush hour. Everyone just seemed so rushed and in a hurry all the time, whether they were shopping or doing anything else.

The cost of living here is so noticibly lower that a house in Maryland cost 2 and a half to 3 times as much for the same square footage.

I don't like Florida. We are planning by summer 2007 to be in middle Tenn. My parents are there, I just love the rolling hills and people don't seem as rude.
